Parkrun Anniversary Down on The Farm
On 12th October 2024 I attended Thonock Lane Farm Parkrun Gainsborough Lincolnshire who were celebrating their one year Anniversary. This was their parkrun 52 and 141 people came to the farm to participate in the event. This is my local parkrun where I have volunteered on 37 occasions and have been the Run Director here 8 times. However this time I will be running & the RD for the day is our volunteer coordinator Amy. There were lot of people decked out in fancy dress to celebrate the occasion. Hope you enjoy the video

Chester Marathon 2024 - My LastOne!
มุมมอง 1.2K14 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Yes this is my very last Marathon! (I promise). We all say that don't we until the next temptation surfaces on the horizon, but I have definitely decided to call it a day this time. Marathon running is tough work & at nearly 67 years of age my body is telling me that, enough is enough now. Chester is my 14th Marathon & I have ran 13 of those in the last 12 years ,since the age of 54. The first ...
AJ Bell Great North Run 2024 - Did I break 2 Hours?
มุมมอง 39514 วันที่ผ่านมา
On Sunday 8th September 2024 I was just one of 60,000 runners competing in the AJ Bell Great North Run Half Marathon. It is an iconic event that I have always wanted to do but have never got through the ballot. I did however manage to get a ballot place in 2023 but had to defer my entry to 2024 due to a stress fracture of my calcaneus. So at 11.16am precisely I set off from the start line at Ne...
Humber Bridge Parkrun
มุมมอง 159หลายเดือนก่อน
On Saturday 31st August 2024 I travelled to Humber Bridge Country Park Hessle North East Lincolnshire to take part in the Humber Bridge parkrun 455. The course is a 3 lap Clockwise lap of the park in shaded woodland and on a mixture of hard stone paths and grass. This was my 140th parkrun & 42nd at a different parkrun venue. I am trying to achieve 50 parkruns in a different location & I was a f...
The Long Sunday 30K Easy Run
มุมมอง 1712 หลายเดือนก่อน
I am busy training for the Great North Run on 8th September 2024 & The Chester Marathon on 6th October, which are only 4 & 8 weeks away respectively. So today Sunday 11th August 2024 the training plan that I am following required me to complete a 30 Kilometres run in preparation for both events. I had to run all of it at an easy conversational pace within my Zone 2 heart rate which is 111-122 b...
Do You Volunteer At Parkrun?
มุมมอง 1232 หลายเดือนก่อน
I want to ask you guys a couple of serious questions! "Do you ever volunteer at Parkrun?" and if you do" What's your favourite role?" I like to give something back to parkrun because it's given me so much enjoyment and improved me as a runner. In this video I went to my local parkrun event at Thonock Lane Farm near Gainsborough where I volunteered as a Marshall for the day. This earned me my 32...
On Holiday Do You Search For A Nearby Parkrun?
มุมมอง 2062 หลายเดือนก่อน
Whilst on Holiday in Norfolk I was desperate to get my 9am Parkrun fix! A quick search from where I was staying on the Norfolk Showground revealed that the nearest parkrun was Colney Lane. Another check on the local bus timetables showed that it was only a mere 15 minutes away. It was even better as the bus stop was opposite the Showground gates and there was the number 4 bus leaving at 7.32am ...

Well done, I did the metric that day. Those hills at the end were really tough but the crowd great
Thoroughly enjoyed the video Kevin. Hope I wasn't too embarrassing in the little chat we had at the end. A great course, I'll be back at some point, hope the weather is better next time.
Glad you enjoyed the video David, it was really nice to meet one of my subscribers in the flesh. Yes it's a lovely off road Trail run, we are very lucky to have it!👍
Great video and nice to meet you on Saturday. From Robin
Cheers Robin good to see you too, thanks for watching 👍
Well done there sir. Although a slight positive split on that course it works out pretty even. I'm sure you'll do another one.
Thanks Guys very much appreciated 👍 Really sorry Dawn that your run was ended with sciatica. I'm sure you will keep on keeping on! No way will I do another!!👍
What a fantastic video and well done for an awesome performance.
Thanks so much Paul, I really appreciate your very kind words! I am really pleased you enjoyed the video 👍
@@samsonslaphead1 no probs, I had a torrid time at Chester last year but will be back one day.
Well done Kev 🎉 This is the first video of yours I’ve watched and was great to watch… now on to your Humber Bridge parkrun video 😁
Thanks so much for watching Rachel! Keep up the fantastic work on your channel which I love to watch. Chester is a certainly a testing Marathon Course 👍
Awesome work mate it was my first marathon, the crowd as you entered wrexham and then that final push to the finish line were absolutely amazing
Thanks Danny, really appreciated! You picked a tough course for your first marathon.! Yes that half mile to the finish was brilliant, the support was awesome 👍
Congratulations! I hope you would still do the world marathon.
Thanks, maybe the World's are certainly tempting. I have already done London & Boston. If Berlin or New York came as an opportunity I may consider them but doubtful at this stage
Fantastic effort 👌
Thanks a lot Ian much appreciated 👍
Congratulations pal, excellent effort 👌 How many times is it you've said no more marathons after this? Hehe
Thanks so much for your kind words, no more marathons, I really mean it 😉 Just HM & 10K's for me
Great performance. Will you miss this distance if you don't do it again?
Thanks Mark, there's no doubt I will miss it but not the training for it👍
Well done ✅
Thanks you, really appreciate you watching 👍
Well done Congratulations
Thanks so much & thank you for tuning in!
Well done Kev,great job 🥇
Cheers Mark 👍
The area of Gateshead after 5k is Heworth. Well done great effort
Thanks Ian, really appreciate your local knowledge they certainly know how to make some noise at Heworth
Brilliant mate 👏👏👏 So glad you enjoyed it. It was a fantastic day!
It was Dean, despite the weather, really glad I finally got to tick the GNR off my bucket list! Thanks for watching 👍
Top VT Kev, I ran it with my wife and didn’t quite realise the undulating nature of the course, would struggle to run a PB on it is my gut feel. Also the crowds were great but I didn’t expect the empty motorway sections. Like yourself wouldn’t be one to rush back too.
Thanks for watching Matt, yes the course on the motorway sections were a little boring & I can't understand what the hype is about the GNR. Best bits of course was the mile finish at S.Shields & the crowd support. The course certainly had it's ups that I wasn't expecting. Well done at parkrun today 👍
Awesome job and encouraging to hear Kevin!! All the Best Brother!!🙏
Thanks Ralph I did enjoy that👍
What a soggy day 🙈
Yes it was Stu, spoilt it a little bit but the amazing crowd support made up for it!
Congratulations an a fantastic run pal. Very well deserved.
Thanks buddy I was over the moon with that, really appreciated 👍
Well done Kev,great job 🥇
Thanks Mark much appreciated 👍
Congratulations and well done Kev great running. Your training paid off 👍
Cheers Ian, yes very happy with my finish time thank you 😁
Wow, good effort, mate! And congratulations on the decent time. Smart looking medal too.
Yes it's a great medal & I was very happy to finish in a very respectable time too , thanks so much👍
Get in!! Brilliant 👏
Thanks Dean I surprised myself, really pleased with that time
What she doing
Posing I think!
Well done Kev that’s a terrific run 👏👏👏
Cheers Ian absolutely delighted with that!💥
Merrilly Christmas
Bit early 😄
Don't tell people who live in Hessle and Hull they're in North East Lincolnshire. Not if you want a return visit anyway :-😂. It's most definitely in East Yorkshire. I used to cycle there as a child. Lovely parkrun. I did the 3rd ever one there.
Oops I was never good at Geography🤣As one of Dick Emery characters said " I got it wrong again Dad"🤣🤣
I really enjoyed this one, did it a few months ago. Nice course
Totally agree great course, thanks so much for watching 👍
Suoer vlog and excellent coverage of the course. I've done both the summer and winter course there and enjoyed them both. My preference is the winter one which is an out and back where you are by the Humber and can see the bridge.
Thanks so much for your lovely comments Dean very much appreciated. Yes I must return in winter to do the Out & Back, sounds like a good course
The director was funny, calling it the least worst one in the area 😂 What a character. It does seem like a nice course. Well done, Kev 💪 🏃♂️
Cheers Mark it is a lovely course, the run Director was quite humorous. He & all the volunteers made it a great day
I'm supposed to be training for the GNR but I haven't because of injury 🙈
Sorry to hear that Stu! Have you deferred your entry until next year? I was injured last year & deferred mine for this year
Great work Kev, I'm also doing Chester and did my first long run yesterday in the build up about 20 miles/3 hrs. I'm aiming to do 5 similar long runs in the build up. Good Luck with the training 👍
That's fantastic Richard, 20 mile long run for 3 hours is top running.I will be doing a Vlog for Chester so if you see me please say hello. Good luck with your training too, many thanks 👍
@@samsonslaphead1 Thank you, looking forward to following your progress 🏃♂️
It's always the last marathon....... until the next one 😂😂
Really liked the format of this Vlog. One hack with the Chews is to cut them in 3 beforehand to make them easier to take. I've got the Kiprun shorts. Love them. Also love those roads around where you live. Great training playground.
Thanks Mr&Mrs B much appreciated, never thought about cutting the chews into 3, might try it next time out. Yes love the kiprun shorts. I'm very lucky to have quiet country roads to train on
I'm currently Marathon trading for Yorkshire in October. I'm greatly in awe of your running and performance. Yorkshire will be my 6th Marathon and I'm really hoping for a PB of around 4 hours 20 to 4 hours 30. That was a brilliant long run! I'm also running GNR this year 😊
I'm really looking forward to the GNR after years of disappointment through the ballot. I'm in Orange C Wave. Good luck for the Yorkshire Marathon Dean, I'm sure you will do really well! Really appreciate your lovely comments, thanks so much 👍
Hope nothing too serious with you. Keep going but just do what you can and let your body recover. Take care and well done with the race 👍🏻🏃♂️
Thanks so much Raymond for your comments & advice. I'm still waiting on some Tests but I am taking a well earned recovery now with most of my weekly training done at a very easy pace & low heart rate. Cheers 👍
@@samsonslaphead1I’m 63 today and hopefully I can keep going as long as I can. I’m like you, I run half marathons, done a full marathon EMF, just did a cycle ride from Carlisle to Cramond on the other side of Edinburgh, this was a 100 miles overnight, it was called Ride To The Sun. I would go out and sometimes feel really sluggish and can’t be bothered, that’s probably my body telling me to have a rest. My head tells me you’re fine but my body tells me to behave myself. I’m thinking of upping my training again as I fancy doing the Loch Ness marathon next year, I’ve got the Glasgow Half Marathon in October. I generally go and do a Half Marathon distance each month. Again take care and keep up your videos WHEN YOU CAN. No one expects you to push yourself just to put a post up. All the best 👍🏻🏃♂️
Hi Raymond, it's great to hear from a fellow older runner who has competed in similar races to myself & share the same experiences. We are both really lucky that we can still run these longer distances at our age. We do however have to have lots more recovery time than these young lads. Well done on your cycling event that's awesome! Good luck for the Glasgow HM & Lock Ness is a marathon that I've always wanted to do. Glad you are enjoying the videos, thanks 👍
@@samsonslaphead1Thanks, you take care.👍🏻🏃♂️
239 runs and 52 volunteers. Got to around 40 volunteers on injuries then after almost a year injury and volunteer free became a run director. Any job at the funnel is best - timekeeper, finish tokens, funnel manager.
Thank you for watching the video, really appreciate your comments. Those are very impressive parkrun & volunteering figures, you'll soon get that magic 250 T shirt. Congratulations on all the different volunteering roles you've done too👏👏👏
Nice one mate. Brilliant choice 👏👏
Thank you! Cheers Dean, hopefully they will help me set some good times ⭐
I try and do 20% volunteer rate , I'm on 42 parkruns at the moment and volunteered 6 times , by 50 I'll have volunteered 10 times , favourite roll is pacer, helping others get PB's is very rewarding for me.
That's a great volunteering ratio Ian, well done ✅ I have never tried being a Pacer & yes it must be fantastic feeling helping others achieve their goals. What time do you usually Pace at?
164 Parkruns and 42 volunteers. I like finish tokens best. I generally volunteer at our junior parkrun so can still get a run as well. Pacing 22 mins at Oakwell Hall tomorrow 😊
Fantastic Vicki that's a volunteer ratio of well over 25% to your total parkruns. Finish tokens is a great role, well done. Pacing duties is another great volunteering role of giving support to other runners to help them achieve their goals, good luck at Oakwell Hall
Yes Kev I have my 100 Vol tee shirt it’s a great experience I enjoy being a marshal and cheering all my parkrun friends….also I’m a VI guide, agree with you Kev “give it a go” 👍
Fantastic Ian, over 100 Volunteer credits is amazing (That seems a long way away for me) . It must be a very satisfying experience being a VI guide too.
I forgot to say I was a RD at junior parkrun for a few years….
You've certainly earned your spurs as a Parkrun volunteer Ian👏👏👏✅
I've volunteered 11 times and ran 73 Parkruns. My favourite is being a marshal at Junior Parkrun here in Middlesbrough. We went to Great Yarmouth last week (a 5 and a half hour drive) to find it was cancelled due to lack of volunteers. We managed a quick drive to Gorleston and arrived 10 minutes after the start to run there. It was a beautiful course. Volunteers are absolutely vital and I feel all runners should give back to Parkrun in some way.
Well done Dean, I wish we had a nearby Junior parkrun as I would like to volunteer but the nearest one is over a 40 mile round trip. I bet you were gutted about Great Yarmouth being cancelled due to lack of volunteers but happy 😁 you made it to Gorleston . Well done for giving something back to parkrun ✅
I've volunteered almost 490 times. Will get my 500 milestone very soon, then I'll be retiring and only going to parkrun if I'm running. Was an Event Director for 7 years, and an Ambassador for 5 years. Run Director 67 times, and been a timekeeper almost 120 times, including at Bushy parkrun for 1500 runners 😂
That's absolutely incredible and thank you for giving so much to everybody else.
@deansummerton2577 Thank you, although I love it for what I gain from it myself 😃, volunteering has its own pluses for sure.
That's absolutely amazing Emma! Your dedication to being a parkrun volunteer is absolutely incredible and thank you so much for sharing your wonderful volunteering record with me. I bet there are not many people who can say they've volunteered more than you! You are truly an amazing inspiration. Well done ✅👍👏
I have volunteered over 100 times and I would say barcode scanning is my favourite. I am volunteering this Saturday and I am number checking
Thank you for supporting everyone else. It's much appreciated.
Well done Ian, that's absolutely brilliant. Thanks for sharing your wonderful volunteering stats. Yes I like to barcode scan too
We were going to do this one in a few weeks but I see Dereham parkrun has started. As we're staying close and it's my ancestral home we'll certainly be there.
I think you will really enjoy Colney Lane despite the hill in the woods🤣 The volunteers are really friendly & there is free Tea & Coffee in the pavilion afterwards. I will look forward to the Vlog👍
