Yellow-bellied Sapsucker Eats Maple Sap on a Rainy Day
Stay tuned for the furry cameo at the end. A female yellow-bellied sapsucker is seen eating sugar maple sap on a rainy December day on a farm in Appalachia. This sugar maple tree is over 125 years old, and a sapsucker has lived in the tree for most of those years. You can tell a sapsucker tree by the small, pea-sized holes lined up around the trunk of the tree.

It's another snowy morning here in The Roc's Roost. Here's a short video showing the morning scene here, with snow and birds a plenty. Tufted titmouse, Carolina chickadee, Carolina wren, Eastern towhee, American goldfinch, and white-breasted nuthatch are among the species you will see! You can also occasionally hear American crows, red-bellied woodpeckers, and mourning doves calling in the back...

Thanks so much, my friend-for your ongoing support and comments. It's a blessing, for sure. I'm around birds, dogs, and other animals far more than I am around other people. That's one of the many reasons I started on TH-cam.

Great guide. Was able to max my Merchant in a short while with living glass running between a system I discovered with the right merchant guild rep and another one someone else found. Now I've got a cycle and all the starship launch fuel I'll ever need.
Thank you so much! I'm glad it helped you. It feels good to never have to worry about things like fuel and batteries, doesn't it?
@@the_rocs_roost It's great. I was starting to get seriously annoyed at the slow rate I was getting the salvaged frigate modules. I'm planning to work the other guilds and set up a cycle to travel around and get the various upgrade rewards.
Stream starts at 2:38. Interest in Skyrim Saturday seems to have petered out. This will be the last one, at least for the foreseeable future. I'll spend my time on something else. The TH-cam slot machine rolls on! If you've interest in seeing more Skyrim content, simply watch the VODs, click the thumbs up, and comment. Otherwise, I'll consider this experiment to have run its course. Thanks to all those who watch/ed!
Do the different guilds in different regions provide different redeems? for where im at the explorer's guild does not have the frigate modules?.. i also don't have access to the portal... thingy.. i think.. do i have to wander to different regions in hopes that it shows up?
Yes, the guilds in each star system have different redeemables. You can just keep warping to new systems and trying the guilds there, or you can use the teleporter on the space station and try teleporting to different systems there to save on hyperdrive fuel. You should see other player bases as available teleportation locations. Teleport to one, jump into your ship, and fly up to the space station to see what the guild can give you. As far as the portal glyphs go, finishing the main story will get you all 16 glyphs to use the portal network. You can also look for traveler "ghosts" on space stations. Talk to those ghosts. They will tell you about a struggle they had. Ask about that struggle, and they will point you to a location on a nearby planet. Go there, and you will find a grave, and in it will be a glyph.
@@the_rocs_roost ooo thanks and just to clarify when you say different "Systems" is that the text near the top that says "Region"? or is it like the galaxy like im in Euclid?
@@ZiffXGames You are most welcome. By systems I mean different stars. Any stars in the current galaxy will do, regardless of the region that they are in.
@@the_rocs_roost Oh.. i been hopping stars like crazy but the guilds seem to give the same rewards no matter where i go o.O.. ill try again later to be sure... Path of Exile 2 time... if servers work xD!
@@ZiffXGames Just keep star hopping; you'll eventually find different goodies. Enjoy PoE.
Ah! I just realized that you can't hear me. Whoops! Such a rookie mistake. Oh well!

Thanks for the tip! This loop is crazy cool. Thanks for spreading the word! /salute Great way to get dihydrogen as well on loop. WOOT WOOT!
You are most welcome! Thank you for watching and commenting! There's all kinds of cool things you can get from the guilds. You can get cargo bulkheads, too, if you reach exalted with the merchant's guild!
I hate this dlc. I don't use power armor in general so I just skip this one all together. Just my subjective view. I'm sure plenty of people out there love it and the best armor in the game that comes after you beat it, but it's just not for me. It's gonna be a treat watching you go through it though.
It was incredibly buggy the whole way through. It was a neat concept, but the execution could've been better. On the whole, not my favorite DLC in the world. That distinction would probably go to The Pitt.
Father Clifford needs to step up his game. Maybe do like those megachurch creatures do where they touch people and they're instantly "healed" and tell people to give him at least a thousand caps so Saint Monica will save their children from hell and give them everything they want, just give him those sweet sweet caps. Then it'd be worth stealing from the donation box, and plus, you'd even get good karma from doing it! It's a win win really.
For the glory of the Lard. 💆
Nice! I got my own system with four unique planets and paradise moon. I’m going to build networks between all the portals!
Sweet! That sounds like a great plan to me! 🚀🪐
Just dup them with the refinery.
I was thinking that refiner duping was patched out in the Omega update. I could be wrong though.
Just tested it with some modules, its not every refiner like 6/10 but if you stack the modules it gets excessive 😂@@the_rocs_roost
It turns out the glyphs aren't random, and that they actually mean something. In this video, we crack the code! If you'd like me to dive deeper into this subject, I'll be more than happy to. Just let me know in the comments!
Do you also put a bucket of water every morning for their bath? That would be awesome 😊
That's a great question! Yes, I do keep a number of bird baths clean and filled with water around the house. The shallow red plastic dish you can see near the start of this video is for their drinking water. I've got another similar one under the deck for the toads that live down there, too, though they are buried up in the mud for the winter by now.
YYaYY Mighty awesome hugs to see you today🤗🤗💜Ooo what types of birds are they?😁💜they flew off fast for me to spot them🤭🤭💜💜
Hey! Good to see you! Thanks for watching! Big hugs! 🤗💛 Tufted titmouse and Carolina chickadee can both be seen at different times in this video. I'll have to post one of my bird videos sometimes soon. I recorded several years ago where I just put the camera outside next to the feeder and let it run for a while. There are nice closeups in those videos.
@ Oooo coool😁🤗💜
That is pretty cool. I have been playing off and on for 5 years now and I didn't know how this actually worked. Thank you!
You are most welcome! It's one of the more esoteric parts of No Man's Sky, but worth knowing nonetheless.
I love you man, you're such an awesome person. I guess I've finally come across someone that loves birds as much as I do. Just in general, I love all animals, but birds hold a special place in my heart. Cold and snowing over here. -7 degrees Celcius currently. Have an awesome day Roc :)
Thank you, thank you! I really appreciate you! The birds really do a great job keeping me company, especially on wintry days. The colder it is, the more likely uncommonly seen birds visit my feeders. Fox Sparrows, Brown Thrashers, and Purple Finches, which I see in the woods all the time, rarely visit my feeder unless there's snow on. Enjoy the cold and snow! Always best to make the best of it. Have a great day, as well, my friend!
Also, 43:59 when you plant the Moonblossom, you get an Essense of Willpower. You get a reward for each of the 4 plants.
It's hilarious to me that I missed that-if you only knew the internal consternation I felt at not "getting" the point of that quest. 🤣 Thank you so much for pointing that out to me!
21:21 Completely missed the white stag :P That's alright, the crossbow sucks anyways.
Shucks! Oh, well. I'll bag 'im eventually!

I'll be on at 1 p.m. Eastern with this classic... now that I can actually make it work, lol.
I have most certainly used WASD to make diagonal moves in this game. Haven't tried with the arrow keys, but I'm sure it's the same. It just takes a second for the input to catch up.
That's good to know! I haven't tried it with WASD, but the arrow keys work just fine, so long as you press them at exactly the same time. I figure that out later in the video.
Interesting that the portal glyph sequences are identical except for the 3rd and 4th glyphs: a 2 for a 4 and a 9 for an 8. Is there a reason behind this? Or just a strange coincidence?
Super helpful video btw!! ❤
Thanks for watching and for this excellent question! The answer's a little long-winded, so bear with me. It turns out that the glyphs in a portal address tell us many things about the system the address links to. From left to right, the first glyph in any address is the planet index. It tells us the specific planet or moon the address points to. That means that there are multiple addresses that lead to the same system. The next three glyphs are the solar system index: a group of three hexadecimal values assigned to each star system so that the game can keep track of them. The final glyphs together tell the computer the location's voxel address. A voxel is, more or less, a three dimensional pixel. Thus, the voxel address essentially gives us the X, Y, and Z coordinates within the given galaxy. In this case, it's Euclid, the starter galaxy. Identical portal addresses in different galaxies go to different places. This is why it's important to know the galaxy in question. I failed to mention that we are in Euclid in the video, but I assume that no mention means Euclid by default. I probably should clarify next time, anyway. 🤓 All of this also means that you do not always need all 16 glyphs to use the portals. Though you should have all 16 to make sure you get to the right places in this video. You might find other systems that don't need all 16 to get to, and in which you can get the modules, but I couldn't say for sure off the top of my head. Since the two systems in this video are physically fairly close to one another, the portal addresses are similar also. It would be cool if there was a relationship between portal address and what the guilds have in each system, or even the type of guild, but I've yet to determine that one way or the other. More experimentation is required! Incidentally, the portal addresses also translate to hexadecimal, which is base 16, a number I'm sure you've heard many times if you've played No Man's Sky for any length of time.😉 P.S.: Now that I've proofread my answer, it sounds to me like a pretty darn good topic for another video!
Howdy ho!! Charming indeed. <3 I like how it looks like you headbutt the doors hehe, my cat does the same to break in on me in the restroom.
It's so fun, and it's free! Pretty darn good return on investment, if you ask me!
Shout out to Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup. Back when I was working support, I'd play the web version of it at work constantly. Such a great roguelike.
It's my favorite roguelike, and one of my favorite games of all time. Versions 0.16-0.19 were a sweet spot for me. Glad to meet someone else who knows the game. Not too many of these ships pass in the night, lol.
The graphics in this game are so charming. I will really never forgive Richard Garriott for abandoning the charm of the black background tile in Ultima VI and beyond. Ultima VI was 'ok'. Anything past that is meh. The graphics in Moonring are such a wonderful compromise between nostalgia and functionality. While the neon is a bit much... it makes the tile graphic really clear and gives it a bit of a psychedelic look. Like you're playing a PC game through a Black Light and Velvet Picture.
It really is wonderful. Black light and velvet-well put! Reminds me of my college days. I thought the aesthetic would be overwhelming after a while, but I've found it becomes very pleasing to the eye the longer you play it. In terms of mood and presentation, Ultima V is my absolute favorite. I think that game is beautiful in every way. Like you, I really don't like Ultima VI's presentation, but I enjoyed Ultima VII quite a bit. It looks somewhat messy to the modern eye, though.
@@the_rocs_roost I found Ultima VII and VIII just disappointing. I completed both because I am/was an Ultima junky. But Ultima VII, and VIII did nothing for me compared to the feelings I got when I cracked open the box for II, III, IV, and V. C64 II was just a bit odd being under the Sierra banner and they chose an odd color scheme. But it broke my Ultima cherry. III, IV, and V were the Ultimas of legend. But if I had to choose a favorite... I have to give Garriott props for IV and his desire to break away from "Let's just kill things until we win" to implement a higher purpose in RPG gaming.
@@thegamedesignlexicon I can definitely respect that. While I did enjoy VII quite a bit, that was the last Ultima I liked. You are right about the older titles. They have a special feeling to them that I rarely find elsewhere. It's a mix of mystery, otherworldliness, and especially from IV onward, interaction with the game world, that I found and still find to be truly immersive. That really was an excellent choice by Garriott to make Ultima IV with a higher purpose. Since I first played Ultima IV in the 80's, there have been many times in my life that I've found myself pondering the virtues and their meaning in our world.
I spent so much time getting these modules. I'm not kidding or exaggerating, once I had finally unlocked all the upgrades for the freighter, literally the next day I was standing around in the Anomaly and someone gifted me 120 SFMs.
Lol, ain't that how it goes sometimes. It's the thought that counts. 🥴
Wish the game had where you could put in coordinates in spaceship to fly to certain places. Waste so much time on this, I hate it ! When you look at a planet from space, you can't tell where the North or South pole are..unless I missed something.
That would be very cool, indeed. Also, searchable inventory is on my wish list. As far as finding the poles goes, use the Discoveries tab in the pause menu. Select the planet that you are on, and you will see a little globe representing the planet. There will also be a little yellow position marker indicating where you are on the planet. North is always up. It's not coordinate-level precision or anything, but it gets you in the ballpark.
@@the_rocs_roost Thanks
@@bennym1956 You are very welcome!
Please eat more. I dont know why you hoard all the food. You are not satiated. Eat. It heals over time or does it not?
I love this comment as I'm all about good food in real life, lol. But seriously, I would eat more, but I cannot eat if I am currently satiated (when the little chicken leg is on screen above your body/mind bars). I could be missing some opportunities to eat, though. Food can heal (or damage) body or mind, or both, over time depending on the ingredients you used to make the food.
Stream starts properly at about 3:09. Thanks for watchin'!
Man, it's tempting. Getting these is so slow. If you're REALLY looking to do it glitch-free, the fastest way I know is to beef up your Minotaur and use it to keep scanning for crashed freighters. They are all laid out the same way so you can get into a groove and do them pretty quickly. I average about 1-2 frigate modules per freighter long-term, but beware dry spells. What I mean is if I do 5, I usually see 4-10 and the more I do the more consistent it gets. Technically you could do it more reliably with planetary charts. Maybe my game glitched, but it seems like if you scan with the Minotaur what you get is always random and replaces the last thing it scanned? With charts, there are I think 3 different kinds of distress signal (ship, owned ship, freighter) but using one rolls again. If it rolls something you already have active, it "fails" and you get the chart back. So you keep using it until you get freighter, then do the freighter, then use the chart until you get freighter again, etc. Gee whiz it's too hard to get these.
I agree; it should be a bit easier to get these... or more interesting, at least. Even with my method, you still have to grind up to master level in the explorer's guild. It's not all that hard, or time consuming-especially if you wait until you actually have a freighter to do it (as you'll likely have more loot by then). However, once you've got master level, all you need to do is bounce between systems to get all the salvaged frigate modules (SFMs) you'll ever need. Plus, you can get other goodies, like storage upgrades, warp hypercores, ion batteries, and much more. Fully upgrading the freighter is not properly balanced, in my opinion. I don't have much of a suggestion to improve it, though. Maybe making SFMs a higher drop chance from derelict and crashed freighters, or tying them to a new kind of salvage quest, like actually salvaging frigates instead of freighters. You might also be more likely to find fleet mission consumable upgrades in such a salvage mission, too. From what I've been able to find out, and from an excellent video on SFM drop chance by Xaine's World here on TH-cam, I think the current drop chance for salvaged frigate modules in derelict freighters (in space) is, I think, about 2.5% from each large blue crate. That chance goes up slightly if you do enough derelicts to get all the blueprints that can also spawn in those crates. When you have all the blueprints, they are no longer in the loot table, but the table otherwise remains unchanged. The drop chance for modules inside cargo pods inside wrecked freighters on planets is between 4.7% and 3.6%. Running derelicts can be much more lucrative for SFMs, though, because they have far more loot crates per freighter than do crashed freighters down on planet surfaces. Sometimes, the game seems to get into a groove and give the modules more often than that, but that could be confirmation bias. Thanks for watching and for your thoughtful comment!
