2025's Best Beginner RPG! The Electric State!
Get The Electric State TTRPG from Free League Publishing here! - bit.ly/40wfikg
Get The Electric State artbook here!!! - amzn.to/4hjbJ88
I believe this to be the best TTRPG for new players released in the past year.
A retro futuristic reality where the 90s smashes into a virtual world connected by a different internet, same pop culture, a changed America and a new take on what it means to be dystopian world.
The Electric State is one of the latest releases from Ennie award winning Free League Publishing, the masterminds behind Vaesan, MÖRK BORG and Dragonbane.
Not to mention their collection of colossal tie-in systems for Alien, The Walking Dead and The Lord of the Rings role playing games.
This entry is brought from the mind of visual artist Simon Stålenhag. This world is an eery mirror to our own where something in the neuroscape just isn't quite right and people in the real world are becoming the same.
Your players will take a road trip like no other, crossing the Mojave desert, skirting the edge of Los Angeles, along the shore to San Francisco and everywhere in between. This is the new country of Pacifica, populated by regular people trying to get by, scavengers, authorities, corporate agents, cultists, robots and massive military drones, remnants of the second American Civil war.
Truly journeys beyond belief are laid before you and your players.
Welcome, to The Electric State.
Thank you to @FreeLeaguePublishing for this game and such a great system!

Walking away? Where's the ambulance they left in?
I once made a sniper eldrich blast build , didnt get hit a single time since I could shoot from 600 feet
@@abrahamvila9875 The "Carlos Hathcock" build.
Me, a completely untouched high leveled peace cleric: “Wow, thank god for meat shield’s” our totem barbarian, who I buffed to high hells and back: “I feel concussed in real life.”
Sometimes the game reaches out and belts ya round the brain IRL. 😁
Its a figment of your imagination they are dead, and this is their new characters coming in after the fight with a 2nd after thier names.
An age old way to rush/replace fallen characters.
Where’s the wizard and sorcerer. I only see two images of the same warlock.
More than likely...
no.
Dang straight they can't.
Fembard would actually go hard
If nothing else, this dance may stun...
Fool me one time shame on you Fool me two times can't put the blame on you Fool me three times fuck the peace sign Load the chopper let it rain on you
I was a rogue in warcraft for years. There's so much more you can do and explore when you can disappear😂😂😂
Pull a John Cena and do what you want. 😁
Honestly I’ve always made little original series in my head, long running ones (two were based off of Dying Light) and I might just use this idea for my own brain series
The game and it's premise is soo good. I can't recommend it enough. If you check out the related video you'll see my full video on it. See if it speaks to you.
It's always so hard to get my party to actually sneak through anywhere without one of them mfs getting spotted by the entire area 😭
Thats just the way the dice rolls sadly...
Just dont discuss spells with a warlock with The Great Old One as a patron. It will unravel your understanding of the table top.... i mean world .... yes your understating of the world.
The old ones will come for us all!
WTF this is soooo sick. I love it. I'm looking forward for the netflix thingy. Pretty neet video :)
So this was a book they made into a board game?
A tabletop roleplaying game. If you aren't familiar, some people would say it's similar to D&D. If you check the related video I have a full breakdown on it.
This sounds sick 🎉
It's honestly a really cool game with great options for "journeys." If you like TTRPGs or want to get into them, I can't recommend this enough. I have a full look at it in the related video.
@@DM-MilkMan THank you, I'll take a look :)
Xiaohongshu
Already on there. 😉
Which is why I believe in chainmail paladin with +9 Intimidation >:3
An angry paladin is as scary as a smooth talking bard is persuasive. 😁
I only have a dragon scale mail barbarian with +4 intimidation 😢 (I’m only level 9 in my campaign tho)
Hmm, maybe I should have added Buffy for the Core 90s aesthetic. 😊
I don't think I'd ever play this game but that art book would be nice to have.
I'd recommend it if you ever want to try a different ttrpg. Otherwise, the name of the artist is Simon Stalenhag (in case you didn't catch it). You can find him on a couple socials and I believe you can buy the art book direct from his website. Definitely worth checking out.
shucks was hoping for a PC game
It would be cool. A sort of blend between Neuroscape and real world gameplay. I imagine it would be something like The Last of Us, or that style at least. But more focus on the journeys. Could be very cool.
I finally started playing bg3 and I’ve killed like three of the dudes on the poster so far lmao. In my defense, Wyll killed himself by fighting off goblins. That I hid and didn’t fight and didn’t use one my 20 revivify scrolls is his fault….
Who knows, you might save them next run? 😁
Okay I can see how this would work. Hear me out people. The Cleric operates a Church either alone or with another player. Or maybe he has a nun NPC. Anways, the other players are Rogue hobos. The other players are dressed in rags, pan handle, beg, do all the hobo homeless stuff. They murder people and bring the corpses to the Church. In the basement of the Church the cleric sacrifices the dead bodies to some dark god or something. Now, no one is going to judge a bunch of homeless being outside a church or being inside so long as the Church doubles as a shelter.
Now that's just an adventure hook for some folks.
As the party's resident barbarian: yeah that's about right
We thank you for taking the blows while us backliners do what we can.
Cool I like it would try
I really recommend it. If even for the chapters on creating a "journey." It almost goes into a "how to/creative writing" guide that will shape how I put adventures together for this and other games I'll run.
Brilliant video! Your editing has come a long way man! I've had this game on my radar for a while now and after watching this I'll deffo have to add it to my collection :)
@@dahorseboy Cheers man, glad you enjoyed it. I can't recommend it enough.
The Srinshee! Lady Oluevaera Estelda 😂
I had to practice how to say it for days and it still took me loads of takes.
Paddy not Patty 😂😂😂. I’m Scottish, and it even makes me cringe when Americans say St Patty’s day 😂
Goes up one side of me and right down the other.
Do they have hands?
They don't per se. They have legs like a dragon would, only smaller. But they do have a flanging digit like a thumb on their forelegs which is opposable so they can hold and carry things, though given their size, it wouldn't be anything substantial.
@DM-MilkMan is that from a source book? I've just had discussions about the various pact of the chain familiars and the debate over whether Pseudodragons can hold and manipulate things has never really been settled...
@@jamesbrannen204 So... You might not believe this, but in Article 269 of Dragon Magazine, there is a "Finding Familiars" entry where they discuss and show various familiars for Wizards and the like. In the Pseudodragon section they have a "non-weapon proficiencies" bit and in there it labels "Artistic ability, gaming, herbalism, spellcraft, Juggling" and others as a skill. I would say it's a really safe bet that they can use objects.
@@DM-MilkMan Wow, thats pretty impressive that you knew that article was there 👏!! Thank you so much for that. I was of the opinion they can manipulate things just about as well as a humanoid could, so glad to see that!
@@jamesbrannen204 Google helped with finding which article, finding the old magazines is the hard part but they are out there.
Interdimensional toothbrush should be a warlock spell
If the spellcasters get Prestidigitation as a cantrip, why shouldn't oral hygiene be maintained by the Eldritch?
3:08 Homey checking something else out lol
Nah, fancy dice always draws the eyes.
my character doesnt have a sad backstory, he just hates other elves. we play with someone who made a joke character dwarf and i've said numerous times "it doesnt matter that you cant see above knee high walls, youre still more useful than an elf." the self hatred is strong
Hey, a little bit of tension builds great stories. Good room for your DM to have fun.
Freaky as hellll
I mean... 😁
Or the paladin with full spell slots for smites
Surrounded by Undead... Happy happy times.
I appreciate the funny ones. Like one of my players is just an old wizard obsessed with soup.
I once played a Bard who was a bartender. His "inspiration" was he would mix drinks on the fly for the party. Made for interesting "inspiring" moments out of combat. 😄
My current Barbarian has the best, non-tragic backstory I've ever come up with. Born into a tribe that cooperated with the Storm Giants of the area, he was a fairly humble sailor, son of a fisherman. A group of adventurers approached his crew looking to book safe passage across a sea, and the gold was good so off they went. On this voyage, he fell in love with the Sorcerer of the group, an Aasimar, Divine Soul Sorcerer, and she clearly had eyes for him as well. They were, of course, attacked by pirates, and he jumped into action to help repel the boarders, and the group of adventurers, impressed with how well he had performed asked if he would be willing to sign on with them, and with his father's blessing (the captain of the ship and head of the company) he went off with the group to [nondescript saving the realm tier adventure that I haven't thought of], but, after about 2 years with this party, well, the Sorcerer began to show signs of being with child, and Aegismund the Calm and Cecilia the Radiant bid their companions adieu and retired from Adventuring at the ripe old ages of 18 and 50. They moved into Baldur's Gate, where Aegismund signed on with The Flaming Fist, eventually landing a job as their Headsman, their designated executioner. They did save up money over their 10 years of marriage to move to the much nicer Elturel, and, you can see where this is going because he's my character for Descent into Avernus, as his wife and 12 children were settling into their new home when the whole kerfuffle went down and now he's set out with the new party to "save the hells from his wife"
“I’m not trying to save my wife from the nine hells, I’m trying save the 9 hells from her. I’ll know where she is from the burning devils running away.”
@@apollyonnoctis1291 Not only is she a Scourge Aasimar, but a very busy mother. and a powerful Sorcerer. Zariel never stood a chance.
Poor Zariel gets a beating these days...
DM: you find yourselves in front of a door and two guards. One of them always tells the tr- Player: I KILL THE ONE WITH RED EYES

the baba yaga? I know she's not a demon but I bet she could be my patron.
I talk a bit about Baba Yaga in my Tasha video and I gotta say, Baba Yaga is a cool patron.
How'd you do the lighting?
@@mac4223 so in my office I have 2 flood lights, 2 rgb lamps and a Nanoleaf panel. The Nanoleaf panel was set to teal, the "hair" light (one fo the flood lights mounted high was set to blue and the other flood light behind me was set to red. The other two lights were off just to be colour, not warm or cold light. Hope that helps.
Performance with dex modifier
Definitely a good way to roll it.
@@DM-MilkMan as a general rule I see it as acting uses charisma dancing uses dex and that slide is more of a dance with added difficulty
For me, I'd love to throw a Barlgura in the mix just as it's a massive, daunting creature.
For me, it depends on which Summmon Demon spell it is, if it's lesser, i use Maw Demons on a role of less stronger demons and Dretches on a role of more weaker demons. For greater however I use the Babau, for high health, ac and physical stats as well as it's spell casting and multiattack. 2d4+4 damage twice a turn as well as *At will* heat metal is strong As well as halving one person's strength based damage for a whole minute if they fail a save is ridiculous.
Charisma is the calmness and manor in which he did it, the action itself is what you would have to roll for. It's a dexterity check.
A good way of looking at it.
It's acrobatics, the original video came up for me literally just before this and the channel has acrobatics in the name Speaking of, make sure to credit @jacobacrobat8303 next time
id say its an acrobatics, its basicly the perfomance version of a dex, and it takes acrobatic skill to keep yourself steady and not topple as your dealing with the spin, similar principle to a figure skater but without the help of the skates so thats why its acrobatics instead of performance, just where my thought process go, i could also see doing a acrobatics to give advantage to the performance roll to see how smooth it is overall
Oooh, that's a good view of performance vs balance.
Just played a mf the other day with my omo deck and bounced all his shit too lol. Skullwinder with a creature specific board wipe is nasty.
Oh. That is nasty. Can't even be mad after a certain point.
if I've learned anything over the past years of my life its that.... you just gotta believe in the heart of the cards....
True Yugi, so true...
The first game was such a classic I can only see the same for this.
I'd have them use either or. Whichever is higher. Or you could have them make two checks one is a dex check to see if they can stay up. While one is a performance check against anyone watching wisdom check. The though behind this is, the first dex check is to see if they can do it and the second is a performance to see if it's actually entertaining (which if it beats the audiences wisdom score it is entertaining).
Me, a blue player: 😐🙂😃
Never let anyone say a thing about Blue players except that they are shrewd with their lands.
