Welcome to BRG! We are a scrappy husband and wife team working to build an Australian White sheep flock in South Central Kansas.
We started this TH-cam channel to take you along as we breed up our Katahdin ewes to an Australian White ram to produce a sheep that has it all.
Low Input- Good Fleshing- Excellent Mothering- & Premium Meat
We hope our videos inspire you to think outside the box and educate you on regenerative ranching with hair sheep.

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.
Thank you for being here & God Bless!

Wow! Thank goodness you weren’t more seriously hurt.
What is the supplement?
I like how you teach people to plan facilities for where they going to be not where you are.
The ewes look amazing!
@@gamatattoos they are pretty, aren’t they?! Can’t wait for you to have some as well 😝

Cute lamb!
Beautiful family! That's what I want for my family as well!
I think I need one of those, too, and I don't have any sheep! LOL
I like it! Thanks for posting.
Super helpful video, I need to build one of these so it’s cool to get some pointers!
Seems to me that slow, and somewhat steady so you can track your progress and what genetics has the best chance for long term Profitability. Why go spend a bunch of money before you have to. By sourcing from 4 different places you should in theory have enough genetic diversity to keep you going for a few more years. That should give you time to figure what works best for your program and act accordingly. Also, what kind of customer base do you have built up and for what type of product? If your happy with the direction your going it might be best not to chance derailing that Progress.
it would be great if you make a video explainng how any f1 f2 f3...you have.interesting stuff.also have you consider putting the old ram on the pure ewes?later yu can use the lambs with the other ram and in the next generationyou could even use the ram brother to the original ewes without almost any inbreding.i mean it would add a lot of genetic diversity to your pure flock, and you can sell him later this year..allgains in my opinion.big fan
fwiw i was asking about ET and quoted taking rates as low as 25%
We just bought some more embryos 😬 but after this I’ll probably have to take a break on the embryos. I hope we are as blessed as you were with the outcome but I’m fully prepared for the worst as well. This new batch of embryos had a little bump up in price as well from the $575 but I know it will be worth it. Keep up the great content!
Ah, darn it anyway. So sorry, fellow farmer.
When you Farm or Ranch bad things are going to happen no matter how hard you tried to prevent them there's just fluke stuff that happens and you can't beat yourself up about it what I've watched of your Channel I like and y'all do an amazing job and you actively try to learn from your mistakes and when you're willing to actually learn and put in the time to study something you're going to do nothing but get better so don't let none of it get you down and keep on doing what you're doing
I'm never going to raise sheep, but I watch your channel because you're authentic and you have integrity. Peace and blessings.

Make sure it really is barbers pole worm ,some times it's another parasite and you need the correct drench I got caught out with a parasite called large mouth bowel worm which just perforated the stomach lining at that time (2003) board spectrum drenches would not kill it had to use a thick white drench called Rematin .so have a vet or some one with knowledge check the sheep out .R
That's where that famacha scoring comes in handy. It's not hard to learn and they even have cards with the color range and when to treat levels. There are three different classes of wormers, which kill the worms in different ways (with multiple drugs in each class). Your friend was advising two kinds in case your worms are resistant to one type. If you are waiting two weeks and worming again, you need to use a different class of wormer the second time. I would recommend some of the cheap working systems diy that are on youtube. Feeding corn, you will probably need to trim some hooves in the future so a flip table is probably in your future.
Barber Pole Worms, the worst sheep parasite. Parasites are the Achilles heel of sheep. First, avoid grazing 4-6" below ground level. Sunlight and lack of water kills worms. Grazing close to the ground where there is typically less sunlight is asking for trouble. The worms seek protection in the ground during the day às it heats up, then crawl back up plant stems in the evening basically. Therefore, some people (if it is practical) will pen sheep at night and only turn back onto pasture after the dew has evaporated. As you know the life cycle of the worm, timing of your moves is also critical. If someone tells you to move in say 3 days take that with a grain of salt. Yes, I would ordinarily agree with that but it depends. Plants don't always grow at the same rate and you want to time moves in accordance to plant growth. Remember, coming back to a pasture too soon is worse (for the plants) than staying too long. You are balancing plant health AND animal health. Stock density is another major issue. The greater the stock density the higher the worm load (per acre) is going to be, and a sheep's worst enemy in this case anyway, is another sheep! Identify ALL those, that had the lumpy jaw, dirty tail, etc (especially the adults) get them recovered if possible and sell them! Period. Like breeds like. Try to graze cattle or mow behind sheep to kill the larvae that hatch. Cattle don't like grazing behind sheep, so you will need to wait some time. Possibly introduce some St. Croy genetics into the flock Keep out good mineral, preferably a free choice buffet style approach. Worm only as you need to and CULL, CULL, CULL! "The key to progressive breeding is ruthless culling."...Tom Lasater
Great to see they are responding well to the wormer. Another great video!
I really like straight katadins ,my dorper crosses suck! Not near as hardy and dont clear off their wool as fast as my katadins. Just curious if its the woolier aussie whites that got the worms?
Nope just our poor body conditioned Katahdins.
I thought 50 😅
175
150
I started counting then fell asleep. Good one.
Pray. Rotate every 3 days, no less. Multi species graze or at least chickens will help. Keep flock healthy with variety of forbes, good hay, minerals and salt. We feed kelp in winter. Cull the weakest.
Very enjoyable listen
200
All of them
I was going to guess 70. I then counted 75… 15 were just too sneaky for me
100-110
90 ewes 🎉
I am on a mission to get this channel monetized by the end of 2024! I will be posting daily until we get there! A way you can help is share one of our videos to someone who loves talking sheep! Every single time!
In the first minute of this video you sead you got a worm problem and the reason it happened without knowing you did. A week In same field is the reason. After 3 days worm eggs become worms. It's best to move every other day. Simple fix is to move them faster. The ones that had the worms sorry but need to go down the road if you want a worm free herd since they will be putting replacements into the flock
Yes, stress does seem to cause issues with the worms. Sheep will always carry some worm load, but it's not a problem until it becomes excessive (Hence, the parasite resistant label instead of the parasite free label, lol). My ram got trapped under a gate I had leaning on the fence for a couple of hours. I've had issues with worms with him for about two months (death's door sick). He's finally coming around. Not letting your forage become less than 6 inches and a 3 day or less rotation is the best management practice to avoid reinfestation. Barber pole worm life cycle is 4-5 days from being excreted to reaching larvae stage where they can re-infest. Many areas of the country have drug resistant barber pole worms, due to incomplete worming practices. I ended up giving wormer from all three wormer drug classes and it did the trick. You might also look into have some liquid vitamin K on hand (to help with clotting). Some sheep will become more anemic after worming due to excessive internal bleeding when the worms detach from the stomach lining. A B-12 drench also works to give some extra energy when they are recouping.
Yes B12 is essential to replace the lost blood, but b complex contains B12 and is available without Rx
Agree. We rotates every day as they eat the grass down so fast, not less than 5 inches and multi species graze with cows and chickens. Garlic if any signs show up. Pharmaceuticals as last resort.

I'm in the same boat, trying to get monetized as well. I like your content so we are subscribed and liking every show. I have a lot of heart for those who decided to jump feet first in animal husbandry. My wife and I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area, home values were sky rocketing during Covid. We started watching regenerative grazers on TH-cam and decided to give it a go. It's been almost 4 years since we moved to south Missouri where we paid cash for our farm and invested in St. Croix sheep and South Poll cattle. We love the life we have hear and we love working with the animals. Keep the passion high because it shows and it is inspiring for those of us that are at it ourselves. God Bless You!
if you watch a youtuber in NZ called Kiwi farmer - he has wool sheep but has just done a mineral blood test on his flock due to come back this week - his late ewes only had a 133% lambing percentage (really low for NZ) - I have been commenting on his channel that I think mineral deficency, worm issues and low lambing percentages come together - he fells the same - it would be interesting for you all to watch - he is lambing at the moment (we are outside lambers only) - bigger lambs will bring down the ewe putting more pressure on their bodies and unless you wean those lambs and get those mothers weight up you breed back for percentage for next year will not be great - get blood tests done one some of your ewes and see how they are looking
It,s too hot for them . Their metabolism does not work at the same pace . They cannot absorb more then a certain calories a day
On low quality forage, try giving some molasses. I would at least wean the ram lambs. I would be culling the wormy sheep, but a weekly rotation is begging for worms when you have moisture on the ground. I've always heard barber pole worms life cycle is 3-4 days from egg to larval stage where they can be reingested.
Happy to see this being done, my property ended up falling through but was looking at doing pretty much the same thing about a year ago
Good information, I learned something here. Thank you for posting this.
I would love to see a whole video on things you would do differently if you were just starting out. Would you still start with Katadhin and use those for embryo transfer, or would you pick a different breed? Would you still try to breed up? Are there any changes you would have made to your infrastructure or equipment you wish you would have started with? Any advice for someone starting from scratch? My husband and I are shopping for property to start our own flock. We have experience with goats, but our plan is to transition to hair sheep, and we like the Australian white. Your videos and podcasts have been such a blessing 🙌. Being able to see what this process looks like has been awesome! Keep the videos coming 😊
A neat new ball killing tool?
Maybe the muffin boy will have to start herding sheep! :) Or, maybe you need the dog for the kids. LOL I don't know. Pretty soon they'll all be old enough to help.
Great video! Still trying to figure out how I’m going to source a second ram after using an embryo ram the first year………if I even get a ram 🤞🏼
Hoping for your success! Looking of maybe buying some of your Whites in the future.
