When you setup the feeder for baby crickets, how do you baffle the flow of the water? I did your method with coco husk and the water coming out was too much. I think i have the same size feeder as you too. Thanks, very informative video

Thanks for this piece of information however i do have reservations concerning incubation. @90⁰c isnt this too high for incubation? I assumed 30⁰c is sufficient for egg incubation.

@craftcrickets847 I grab a medium sized "to go" box, chop it up a bit and use pieces of it to build a ramp up to the to go box. I fill the box with old towel parts (but clean) and then fill it up with clean water. I use clear gorilla super glue on the ramp, very thin, and then pour sand onto the glue on the ramp. When it dries, in about an hour 30, its scratchy so the crickets and pinheads can walk on it. The top/lid of the to go box provides a ceiling to hold in moisture. So its a box full of water, with towels that can be reused, and pinheads dont have to jump into it, just walk up the ramp and bite the towels for water. Change twice a week, (towels can be cleaned in the dish washer as well) but the crickets wont die if you go on a week long trip, unless you have a high number of crickets.

if you live in warmer regions, you have to deal with ticks growing in your breeding box. keep it clean regularly and look out for ticks.

I know this is an old video, but when you told "The Company" that you had just eaten their water crystals or whatever, what did you expect them to tell you? They gave you the "across the board" standard pat answer, for both legal and liability issues. Go see a doctor.... They don't know who you are, what your motive is or even if you are telling them the truth. Anything other than that answer would be a problem. What did the warning say on the outside of the bottle? or was there a warning? If not, then you are just creating a figment in your imagination and trying to justify it as a problem.

Do you have to leave them without food a while before harvesting in order to empty their guts? Also, how to know when it's the right time in their life cycle to harvest them?

    • @weirdassbluecat

idk if this applies to human food, but it's better to not purge them, if theyre starving they lose nutritional value. also there's no way to completely purge the insect anyways without them starving to death.,,

4 years later, what are your thoughts now? Do you see more people getting into eating crickets? *I am doing this on a small time basis because I want to hear live crickets. I want to close my eyes and be able to imagine I'm dining at the Blue Bayou restaurant at Disneyland. I also keep hens and can feed them cricket treats and I'd be happy if able to simply keep 100-200 crickets alive at any given time. I think that should be enough choir singers..

How do you keep the incubator from collecting condensation which the hatchlings can drown in? I'm using an incubator that I built using a medium size ice chest and a digital thermostat and heat element. I have installed an additional fan which will control the condensation but it rapidly dries out the substrate. However when the fan is off the condensation rapidly builds and I start loosing hatchlings. Thank you for any advice you may have.

Ugh how do I keep the flipping fruit flies outta my bins?! I've been sick with covid all week and my husband was taking care of the bins, I only have 2. I usually transfer them to one bins every couple of days then alternate as I clean them. I know it sounds tedious but we're using a corner of our reptile room to breed them and they stink like shit lol I opened the bin tonight & the fruit flies and larva(flipping maggots) are everywhere. How do I keep them out of my bins?! I've got traps spaced around but because we keep the door open a lot in the summer we deal with pests.
