No doubt that the modern stuff is aiming for a more accurate representation, but something that should be noted, is that those earlier modelers were not trying to replicate a natural "in the room" raw type sound but more so a processed studio sound. Gotta remember a lot of those early units were used on thousands of recordings ever since the late 90's! No music fan knew the difference or that recording processes were changing behind the scenes! They sounded fine then when dialed in, so trying to do a comparison with a neutral tone really neutered that J-Station. The sound of what is today known as "modern Metal" (really just Progressive Metal guys who think they represent the whole genre) is even built heavily around the sound of heavily processed digital amp sim tones! Plenty of videos out there showing how the Line 6 POD 2.0 and Behringer V-amp still sound great and usable and sometimes even preferable to the newer stuff such as the amp modeler shootout from Anderton's a few years ago, although I am not knocking your effort here. Keep on Rocking brother! \m/

I appreciate your opinion, but I personally never liked the sound of post Y2k rock albums, until around 2008-10. I mean, if the J was going for "studio sound" then that only amplifies the limitations of the technology at the time. To each his own though... thanks for the thorough rebuttal 👍

@@cuomomusiccreation Thanks for taking the time to converse on the topic! One of my favorite Rock albums growing up was Crossfade's self-titled debut album released in 2004, which was recorded in Ed Sloan's home recording studio with a Line 6 POD Pro rack-mount setup. I didn't know it wasn't real amps until a few years ago when I started getting into modelling, so that reinforces my view that you can't tell the difference in quality between analogue and digital in recoded music! We'll have to agree to disagree on whether or not those late 90's / 2000's album tones were good or not and the usability of those early modelers! Cheers! \m/

@@Carrigan812 I see, this room would be too small if it also had a vocal booth. I'd say 16' x 20' would work. However since I have nice high ceilings (14' peak) and well placed treatment it works great for me as is (12' x 16') when mixing. That being said, a super duper mix room would be in the area of about 22' wide by 28' long or so, with ceilings as high as you can make them.

Man, that J Station sounds like ass. I am a bit put off by the UA pedals because they charge you $200 just to look at them if an issue comes up. I use an HX Stomp, or my amp, or plugins.

Yeah, that J-Station surprised me! I hadn't fired it up in like 15 years or more. Terrible. I'm not sure about the UA warranty. I usually don't put much stock into that stuff, because I had the misfortune of being a computer repair tech for about 8 years, haha. How do you like the HX? One of the main reasons I bought these two pedals is that the touch responsiveness is kinda stunning. They react very lifelike.

Snap to relative value!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, it is not a default or not question, but I hope one day the whole Logic team will stop doing what they are doing and will just focus on the old neglected inherited oldschool buggy weird stuff and fix them. Such as the whole midi editing. Quantizing (the end of the note, for example). Midi transform window. The GUI overall. I wish Logic be smart enough to color a different region to a different color by default. The force legato which doesn't actually snap to the next note but leave a gap. Speaking of gaps, the view which sometimes shows there are some gaps between otherwise perfectly aligned regions or midi notes. The playhead snap when I just place it by a click and it doesn't always snap to definitive values. Why I would want it to snap to a division or a tick when I am zoomed out? Anyway ...

I was skeptical about the marketing behind the M series of processors because of the divide between efficiency and performance, but I am very surprised by the results I got. Have you tried it with a lot of virtual instruments? That's where I'm still thinking it may struggle.

@@cuomomusiccreation I have used quite a few on some tracks....I am a guitarist so I do tend to have a mix of virtual and live instruments. In truth the setup I have is the best I've ever had and It works for me. I doubt I would ever get to the point where it couldn't cope.

I ran Southwire 12 gauge cable from the shed to an existing box in the house that wasn't being used. Since my setup is pretty circumstantially fortunate, I chose not to include it... also, my cable burial isn't exactly the best 😆

The more AI and gizmos my software gets, the less time I spend developing and 'reifying' the musical ideas that pop up in my head. In fact, I'm too occupied manipulating & tweaking to think about my own ideas at all.

I totally get that. I actually hope that AI in the creative arts is more of a fad than the future... but that's probably wishful thinking.

@@cuomomusiccreation One thing's for sure, the next generation will be totally used to AI, probably to the point it won't even be mentioned, it'll just be built into every aspect of the internet (<- which _itself_ will be a far more integral part of our lives than we can imagine today). But I'm old, so like you I'd rather do creative stuff manually.
