      Hi Travis! This is a very difficult question for me to answer because they are totally different in their profiles. However, if I absolutely had to pick I would go with Royal Incense. Just tried this today. Going on 7+ hours and it’s still very strong. Projection and longevity are very very good on my skin. To me, the oud is not really funky at all. The leather is most prominent but it’s really a beautiful, slightly sweet dry down with the other notes. Easy to wear. Very pleasant.

    Azzuro Di Capri is a floral that is definitely worth trying. It has that hint of aspect grape soda aspect. Latin Lover is one I also enjoy. My favorite floral is Sampaquita by Ormonde Jayne but unfortunately it has been discontinued. Thus I will be on the hunt for my new favorite jasmine fragrance this spring. Those are all white florals that I’ve mentioned. I wear so many floral frags that it’d be too much to get into for one comment. But, I will say that if I were to pick one floral to be my favorite, I’d have to say Heliotrope.

    • @CurtisNose
      @CurtisNose 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Oh nice! Do you enjoy rose as well or mainly white florals?

    • @caseyplunkett6083
      @caseyplunkett6083 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ To be honest I’m not a rose fan. I can enjoy as a complementary note but not as the main player. I enjoy yellow i.e Ylang, Champaca and purple flowers if you will like heliotrope and iris. I enjoy white florals like jasmine but not a much as I like the more tropical florals and the powdery florals. I doubt that I’d enjoy just a light or fresh and very powdery fragrances but the inclusion of powdery florals with sweet and ambery fragrances makes all the difference and is a great improvement imo. Back to rose, I will continue to sample rose fragrances in the hopes that palate and preferences will expand with time, but for now it’s not my vibe. I tried the edp of Rose de Tiaf and it really didn’t peak my interest but I’ll still try the Extrait in the Spring.

    • @caseyplunkett6083
      @caseyplunkett6083 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@CurtisNose the inclusions of floral notes is what really makes a fragrance resonate with me. In no way was this on purpose it just played out that way in my fragrance journey. To give some examples: Angelique Noir is one of if not my favorite vanilla and I believe that it’s the present Angelica and Jasmine that make this so. Spiritueuse Double Vanille has listed Rose, Jasmine and Ylang but at least to my nose I really don’t pick them up. Delphinus was likely my favorite release in 2024 and it’s certainly the heliotrope and Iris that are my favorite aspects. A couple years ago Delina Exclusive was likely worn more times than any other fragrance on fall. A couple years before that Blossom Love by Amouage was my most worn. (I say most worn as I don’t really maintain a signature

    • @CurtisNose
      @CurtisNose 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I would say, definitely try the extrait of Rose de Taif. In my opinion it is so much more rich, deep, jammy and extremely long lasting. Have you ever tried Viola Nere by Meo Fusciuni? It is an absolute gorgeous floral with some powdery vibes and some dark edges to it. I really like that one.

    Nice list, Curtis…I don’t have many floral forward fragrances…Une Rose de Kandahar by Tauer is a beautiful, powdery rose. Also, last summer I was obsessed with Golestan(also by Tauer), which is a fairly dense yellow/white floral. It’s gorgeous and I loved wearing it in the garden. One more is Hermes Equipage Geranium; a really soft, rounded floral blend that’s elegant, beautiful and very versatile.

    Valid points! I tend to spray a lot so I really have to watch it if I'm going to be around other people. I always spray under clothing so that helps a bit. I won't wear fragrance at all if I'm going to a restaurant. Some people are really sensitive to fragrance and a friend of mine had to get her inhaler after being in my office so that scared the hell out of me. Thanks for sharing the stories, we've all been there and none of us wants to be "that guy."

      Hi! I think living here in Japan makes me a bit more self conscious, but also more considerate of the others around me because of the culture here. WOW! Definitely things to stay mindful of. Thanks a bunch for stopping by.

    Can you please rank your love for these Rose Fragrances..Radical Rose, FM Portrait of a lady and Perris Monte Carlo Taif Rose Extrait?

      @CurtisNose 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi! Sure! 1. Rose de Taif Extrait by Perris Monte Carlo 2. POAL by Frederic Malle 3. Radical Rose by Matiere Premiere (I need to spend more time with this one though) With that said, I also love Lyric Man by Amouage. It is a very nice fresh and clean soapy type of rose.

      @CurtisNose Thanks Sir..I look forward to go with Perris Monte Carlo but it's not available right now in India. I have Royal incense..would certainly try layering them both.

    Any tips on how to objectively measure and find out how strong a fragrance actually is? So we can gauge what is appropriate?

      @@CurtisNose thank you for the consideration, I have left a sub so I wont miss the follow up ;) I would also love to hear about your specific situation as I suspect the Japanese are even more sensitive then us western folk. Or you could visit/highlight some of the japanese brands out there. I think you are in a unique situation which separates you from all the other reviewers out there. Thank you and keep up the good work!

    HI Curtis, thank you for your thoughtful and honest video. I have been into fragrance since 2020 (i.e. the pandemic) and I must have about 175 different fragrances. I follow you and a number of other channels and I have an observation. "Fragheads" can go so far down the rabbit hole of fragrance that they become removed from the normal tastes of the general population. E.G I often hear Fragrance TH-camrs extolling the virtues of oud fragrances (not the pleasant western ouds but the heavy middle eastern variety). They will wax lyrical about how wonderful they are but to the rest of the population they smell of horse manure. I recently tested Amouage Gold Man which I have heard TH-camrs rave about. Amouage really have a sense of humour because the reason, I discovered, for the name is that it smells of urine on the dry down. I would love to buy Amouage "Royal Tobacco". As a "frag head" myself my tastes are sufficiently well refined that I adore the scent profile. The problem though is that I tested it on a friend before purchase and realised that to the rest of the population is it nauseating. The point is that we as "fragheads" must always be mindful that our tastes and now so refined they are not shared by the rest of the population. Surely, there is no point spending hundreds of pounds/dollars/euros on a scent that you adore if people around you are disgusted. None of this means we have to be boring, it just adds challenge. My next scent will be Tauer's Coeur Du Desert. I think I have found a scent that is non mainstream, interesting but will still appeal to the man in the street. Sorry, Curtis , this note is so long but I found your video so interesting and in tune with my own thoughts, I wanted to engage with you. Best wishes, Godfrey

      Hi Godfrey! I 100% agree with what you are saying here. We definitely have the experience and the interest to appreciate scents that people who are not into fragrances would probably dislike or even find offensive. Great choice on your next fragrance by the way! I absolutely love Coeur Du Desert, but only have a sample of it. I can see a full bottle in my future for sure. I appreciate your thoughts on this topic and I am very happy to engage and interact with you. Thanks a bunch for stopping by.

      @@CurtisNoseI sampled the extract and was blown away. It has so much depth and what I think is a bit of incense which I love. It is a one spray-er for me and lasts 24 hours.

    Hey Curtis, great info. What I have learned over the years is polarizing, beast mode frags smell amazing to other people if they only get a slight whiff. The best way I’ve found to accomplish this is to do like the women of old used to do, which is spray 2-3 sprays in the air and walk through the scent. You will be surprised how many more compliments you get on those strong challenging scents. Less is definitely more in those cases. Keep up the great videos my friend!

      Hi John! I have never tried the spray/walk through technique before, but I may give that one a try with my stronger fragrances. Thanks a bunch for sharing about it and for stopping by.

    Great video, thanks for sharing your experience and insight. My own universal 3 spray routine avoids the usual causes of olfactory fatigue and goes like this: - 1 down the shirt collar, on chest and inside of shirt -> surprise whiffs for myself all day; - 1 on left forearm -> conscious sniffs for myself when I feel like it; and - 1 (optional) spray on my hair, at the back or top of my head -> only when I really want to share my fragrance with others. BTW, surface heat maps of the human body show that pulse points are no warmer than other parts of your limbs, and in fact cooler than your chest, armpits and other proximal areas of your body. That is why doctors do not take your temperature at your wrists or neck... 🙃
