I'm not convinced UBI will be a thing. In the "good" scenario, we'll be post-economic-competition. The AI takes care of the bottom couple of layers of Maslow's hierarchy and assists us with the layers "belonging and love" and up. Money for resource allocation becomes pointless because it's as valuable as an emoji. Whatever is to be allocated becomes a discussion with the AI, who couldn't care less about money but has the ability to do/make/transport according to our needs and wants. This presumably works for an infinitely growing population, on multiple planets. We explore science and the universe with the AI. When we're bored, we recreate 20'th earth in VR to experience the struggle of finding each other before cellphones. Kids become very tired of "when I was young" discussions. We finally get proper hoverboards, as foretold in the prophesies.

These people are so delusional to not see the political arm of the government continuing to come at trump. There is a reason Everytime government agencies attempt to throw him in prison he goes up in the polls. And frankly most people currently in the USA would love to see him do the same thing to them. They tried removing trump from the ballot, then they tried to throw him in prison, and lastly tried killing him. Also the guy who shot trump registered as a republican to vote against trump in the primaries. It’s common in the USA, I have friends who vote for trump but registered as democrats to vote against Hillary in the previous primaries. Also the shooter gave money to a far left political group. Apparently shooting a front runner for the presidency isn’t political according to these people 😂🤣

From how things are unfolding, to me it seems like Elon Musk is eyeing the presidential role for 2028 and his SV bffs are in on it. He purchased a social network where he can spread ‘his word’ megaphoned (literally amplified 1000x according to ex-employees) and uncontested. He changed his persona from visionary to essentially troll. Built a cult around him and it is probably very aligned with Trump’s MAGA base. Elon’s actions to me show that he is doing all he can to ‘be handed the MAGA banner’ from Trump when his upcoming term is over. Musk technically cannot run for office, but the supreme court can still allow it, and the supreme court is in Trump’s pocket. He is also an obvious follow up to trump in both personality and background (troll billionaire essentially) He is essentially helicoptering money to all MAGA causes/victims/events under the disguise of doing it for free speech / for america and all maga and republicans are rallying behind his money wall. In reality he is clutching to the most easily deceivable voter base. All you need to do is go on X and see what a cesspit it’s become of republican propaganda, misinformation, conspiracy theories and ultimately deception. It’s actually worrying how things might unfold - if techpreneurs’ goal is to take over the whitehouse, politics in the west as we know it will have a fundamental shift. Not to say it’s anywhere near perfect right now, but the ‘Paypal Mafia’ / billionaires are not who you want in the drivers seat.

This was an interesting discussion. This might seem random but I swear has a purpose, I’m also Australian so not American but similar systems (with some notable differences). But I think my confusion is how Americans describe what their culture or values are. People everywhere are driven to extremes of sides to hate each other to varying levels but even in Australia there’s an underlying culture, I thought I understood what this for America from an outsider perspective I guess to some level. I’m a lawyer so elements of the US legal system are much stronger than Australia’s, and that played into my view as it’s also put forward in public discussion in a simplified way. A lot of things make me think I have absolutely no idea what that is now in terms of values and culture that most ppl agree on, unless it’s just different versions of American exceptionalism lol but not towards each other kinda thing lol. I think the tech element to this is a lot of things I’d put in the cultural category are at risk of being victims of tech increasingly right now. I particularly am thinking of music kinda thing, tech companies taking over music discovery and promoting trash losing that creativity into the future. So I dont mean culture in terms of background Australia is also very diverse in backgrounds but the underlying culture as one example is like anyone in any side of ideological view will respect the Australian who brutally mocks the prime minister or a great example is the MVP of the country for a while who interrupted a press conference outside his house to tell the prime minister to get off his lawn because he just seeded it. Like the values of Australia despite the divisions no one actually thinks a politician is going to save them at this point, so if you can cut them down in a clever or brutal way the little ppl unite. Or another one during the AUKUS press conference with the US, UK and Aus, Biden quite clearly forgot the Aus PMs name and called him Pal lol. I saw discussion from American programs saying how disrespectful this was etc etc. but the whole of Australia on both sides found that fucking hilarious. I feel like Americans still think the guy on their side might save them and I don’t know what the broader values are that bring the little ppl together are lol

the nazi party was all but destroyed by 1946 (only bc you cannot destroy an idea per se).. vs. Israel seem to be committing genocide by way of expert observation of the events.... there is no argument against that because it is mostly fact... and there are so many instances of intended Jewish supremacy both in the Israel region and in countries where Jewish people are.. even if it is a reactionary item due to fear of what happens if Jewish people do not advance technology or do not accumulate resources.. this idea has seemed to exist in the fabric of the culture forever, both driving admirable outcomes and grief from cultures that by all respects generally are regarded within Jewish circles as "gentiles"... as far as i understand, if you go down the path of saying that Jews are insular and are generally hesitant to seriously engage with gentiles, it's anti-Semitic.. the entire culture is a loop in this way... it's mostly common sense it's like you have a child who in class says they have a secret or they are chosen by God, but they cannot share it with other children because they were chosen, and others cannot understand or be welcomed to share the burden (which the very fabric of Christianity is meant to alleviate).. and so the other kids becomes frustrated or jealous and choose to act out aggression on this child, and instead of making the conclusion that the child has evoked this reaction from others doubles down on the chosen by God / i have a secret rhetoric and instead chooses a second layer of identity that they are a victim and need allies that will befriend them without this person revealing what the secret is or without having to refute the statement that they are chosen by God.. it goes against the nature and curiosity of man and the desire for man to be at ease.. so to say there is no solution is like an addict refusing to give up the bottle in this way there are more-than-likely some major problems within Jewish communities that are mistrusting and also refuse to give up a portion of the identity even if the Talmud suggests to follow the local law to call such a set of claims anti-semitic is like the same child, addicted and insistent, now finding a way to attack the attacker that was only provoked by a natural set of provocations.. and when we evaluate the entire power structure of the leftist political groups, the victim culture, the dynamic to "uplift" minorities and fractionate populations.. it all starts to align with this same set of problems which seem uniquely Jewish.. and if a Jewish person is just going to shut down then that's fine the rest of humanity doesn't deserve to suffer for it.. if it is an inability to recognize an atrocity like the holocaust then it is up to the Jewish person to understand that a war was fought and millions of lives lost in part to stop a regime committing violence against Jews.. not acknowledging all of the suffering that was non-Jewish in the second world war is just as disrespectful and it happens all the time it's not about anti-semitism.. it's about the freedom for people to live in a world where that dichotomy doesn't matter or have any influence... it's about addressing the mental health issues of this entire backwards culture and hoping that this culture can do a better job of policing itself or i think we should crack open a big documentary on the entire thing, explore financial networks to analyze just how much Jews only do business with Jews, marry other Jews and all the dynamics of that.. and it'll be just as sick as what was done to the white male in western society.. because ultimately the attack on the white male was a desired thing by the Jewish group.. and it's a set of mental health issues... same as white fragility and all of that.. the more relevant question is if Jewish people have inherent conflict of interest to maintain any relative share of influence that they have culturally or to what extent a Jewish person culturally (in a relative sense, "scored" next to other cultures) is capable of caring for people that are not its own.. and this is not some item that applies to any particular group in the world over the course of history.. obviously with imperialism many suffered but we clearly can all see that to some extent the English language was highly successful like the US dollar likewise was highly successful as a global currency... and there may be no good answers.. but so long as Israel is committing genocide then we should relax the fears against what is and what is not anti-semitic and have some hard conversations before the Jewish brothers and sisters really do some harm in the world in the shell of their own pain to argue anything else prior to 1980 might have been to caretake for vulnerable minorities, now it would look more like arguing the greatness of the Chinese state in order to gain social credit points.. i fear the western society's have become like a digital Jewish run concentration camp i do not know that a Jewish person can properly be judge and jury and identify what is anti-semitic while maintaining such a claim that they are also chosen and also a victim.. and my god it all sounds like a bunch of histrionic narcissism to me!

It makes me feel sad that somebody like this is in HR, holding people's careers in her hands. Love this topic and it's something i thought about back when NYT was suing OpenAI. I initially thought smart contracts run on a blockchain to help govern micropayments for each scrape and tying that to whitelisted robots.txt but that doesn't stop anything as it's more a gentleman's agreement. Next level would be firewalls and server level Configs for IP based restrictions... In a world that is much more digital, we'll need this

Anti-competitive behaviour can be where you take your profits from one industry and use it to undercut competition in another industry. Of course there are grey areas but continuously expanding their office product line until it includes things like chat, then giving away the chat feature for free or at steep discounts because of the bundling is anti-competitive regardless if the purchaser wants it or not. The reason this is bad behaviour is is because we know large corporations do this to snuff out competition so that they can then jack up prices. When the anti-competitive company gains market dominance they will wipe out any growing competition through buyouts or further anti-competitive tactics leading to less consumer choice. It's sad that the perception of anti-competitiveness is in such disarray where even in the 90s world governments would have shut down Microsoft long before their sales people got to the point of offering $10 million discounts on SQL licenses for forced teams adoption. Worth adding, this doesn't have anything to do with product offerings or being well integrated, it's purely about large monopolies deploying capital to shut down competition. We used to break up companies which became too diversified into different business interests, we need to get back to those days. I think part of the problem is we see companies as people and breaking them up feels wrong. They're not people though, they're a collection of financial interests, and that makes them very fungible. A trait we don't exploit the way we should. Don't worry, your start up is safe, until it's turning over a significant percentage of the revenue of the market segment it's in and the founders are (probably) billionaires. edit: The only thing I really took visceral offense at was implying Teams is an 8/10 product. edit 2: (yes I'm watching this and providing commentary) - just chuckled a bit about how great a platform company Microsoft is for letting you (amongst other things) choose your browser in Windows - the United States sued Microsoft for anti-trust and part of the settlement was forcing them to allow users install whatever browser they wanted on Windows. edit 3: The reason Microsoft got hit by anti-trust and not Apple is because anti-competitiveness isn't about the products you build, it's the market dominance you exploit to gain unfair advantages. PMs should PM (I have thoughts about PMs) and Microsoft should Microsoft, just like government should govern.

    • @james_read

@@ChrisSaad The problem is how they've marketed it, they can build competitive products but they have to compete on their own merit. Not be included in predatory enterprise agreements that leverage their advantage in other distinct market segments, essentially at gun point (discount is only available IF you adopt Teams). We need to stop looking at the tech industry as single industry, this is outdated 90s thinking. Teams is competing in video conferencing and instant messaging, not office software, that is too broad a category. It would be like saying a laundromat is in clothing industry. @ahmedhakeem1044 To your point about anti-competitiveness and it's reputation, that is the fault of governments losing the respect of the people. Too much corruption, regulations that are put in place to create barriers of entry for smaller competition. It would go a long way if the EU and other governments had a citizen led mechanism for anti-trust that's directly voted on by the people.

Bulky. Not practical to bring outside the house so it’s essentially another gadget that’s just relegated for home use, unlike the iPhone or Apple Watch or AirPods. If you notice all three are successful because it can be taken outside with ease. The concept is compelling, but any smart eyeglasses have to be designed just like any regular eyeglasses that people can wear without bringing too much attention to themselves. Google glasses also failed because of the design. Good concept but unless one is a complete nerd, no one would like to be seen with a frame around their head with a device attached to it.

For some context, I’m a moderate that leans right as of late… but on the DEI front, quick point to make here: Amir (and partially Yaniv) disregarded the current definition of “diversity” in the U.S. as it stands today and spoke to “diversity of thought” instead… That’s not what anyone means when they say diversity, and I think we need to admit that. DEI professionals & departments at companies/corporations, along with the average progressive, are distinctly talking about diversity of color/race. One might think ethnicity is included here, but it’s far from the truth; when progressives and DEI leaders speak in broad strokes of White vs Black, they’re throwing out the entire contexts of ethnicity, culture and… yes, diversity of thought too. Because to say “Blacks think this way” and “Whites think this way” is so embarrassingly reductionist (and I’d add it’s belittling & patronizing) to massive groups of people that ARE incredibly diverse within those poorly-labeled groups. Are there prejudices that exist in the U.S. today? Of course. I don’t deny that. But why do you think affirmative action never worked? Why are schools that adopted that policy now struggling to keep the avg student scores up? Why are companies now nixing DEI depts? It’s because they’re favoring some non-existent ideal ratio of color:color/race:race instead of meritocracy, and it shows in the bottom line. It’s because there’s no good study or statistics today that say DEI “works” or shows progress for anyone involved, and in some ways has shown negative impact. This isn’t the mid 1900s anymore, there’s a TON of progress as far as women and minority groups; we are a long way from the country we once were. I do agree that it gets political like Yaniv said but for the reason that people are still blindly accepting that DEI is a “good thing” without ever listening to arguments on the other side (diversity of thought, perhaps?) and instead calling it racist or MAGA to shut down convos. Yes, this happens. I’ve heard it and seen it myself. Anyway… sorry for the rant. I do love you guys and the pod. Keep it up, even the topics that make me go off a little. 😆

Oh and I would add, I would LOVE to hear and explore other ways or policies to improve DEI as long as we’re talking strictly about diversity of thought! I’ve never seen any of that though, sadly… And regarding supporting minority groups & women and other underrepresented subgroups, I’m all for this. Let’s just leave the broad strokes labels at home and dig into the real problems instead of top-down policies that often cause more harm in the long run than good.

Great comment. I've been recently ie. post Oct 7 also considering the intersection (probably not the best word to use) of DEI advocates and the Progressive Left and how these two interplay not perhaps so much in the tech workspace, but for sure it is occurring....just look at the google sit in, and whether the same oppressed/oppressor lens coming from race and colour in a US context is toxically manifesting itself here in Australia in many ways not least the seeming need for 'safe spaces' and everyone gets medals approach to education, university (doing away with entrance requirements) and thus into the workforce and what impact this will have. Granted, probably not something for startups given the focus we need to have internally to deliver product above all else.
