      I'm confused. Normally you tension curtains only so much so that they have the correct timing, the feeling of looseness has nothing to do with it. That's a huge amount of tension for an SRT101. Was this tested with a shutter tester?

    The blue capacitor is tantalum capacitor, it will not leak but it has an other mode of failure: getting in short circuit, sometimes it will even burn out and release the magic smoke. This catastrophic scenario is not too likely to happen with a 2 button cells power source however, but it is more an issue when these caps are used in devices with a strong power supply as vintage computers, lab equipment, etc.

I can see the LEDs working in the viewfinder until I try to fire. When I do, the LEDs turn off and only turn on again after I turn the camera off and on again. From the stuff I read online, the capacitors are most likely faulty. I haven't opened the camera but I will do so in a few days when I have more time.

    I have been reading a lot more about camera maintenance and the pentax MX in special. I own 5 of them and have fixed some of them . Now what bothers me about this video is the service that is shown here. Basically the shutter maintenance is just adding tension to the shutter curtains without using a curtain tester. This makes little sense considering there's a specific curtain speed of 12.2 to 12.3 ms that is recommended by the official repair manual. Just adding tension increases the speed. More tension means higher forces and more wear. Secondly lubrication is just flushing the cam with a lot of oil. The proper way to do it would be to clean it of old lubricants first and then applying only a little amount to relubricate the mechanisms. Some even go as far as greasing contacts to minimize wear. And the best of all would be to actually disassemble the whole mechanisms and clean them individually in a supersonic before reassembling and reoiling. My guess would be that this camera, while initially working better might end up having bad shutter times and potentially breaking sooner due to the unnecessary tension in the shutter curtains.

    • @GarrysCameraRepair
      @GarrysCameraRepair 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello. Your camera would need to be evaluated to determine why the mirror doesn't drop all the way down. There might be several causes for this - mirror block assembly, winding mechanism or even shutter. Unless you want to chance it, I don't recommend venturing into disassembling the camera by yourself. I would suggest sending it to a repair shop for further evaluation and repair.
