Ms. Bullock's Second Grade Classroom
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 6 ม.ค. 2017
I am a second grade teacher in a large school system in suburban Atlanta, Georgia. Our system employs approximately 24,000 educators and support staff serving more than 180,000 students.
I have taught elementary school for 22 years, predominantly second grade and kindergarten. I have also taught FOCUS (GCPS Gifted Program), ESOL, and EIP. I stayed home with my four children for 14 years when they were younger. I homeschooled my two oldest children during their middle school years.

I love the floor map! We also have limited Social Studies/Science time - 15 minutes a day at the most. Love the idea of implementing your recordings during Language Arts rotations!
I’ll be honest. When I was struggling with my schedule and how to get everything in, someone suggested it and I wasn’t crazy about the idea. Out of desperation, I tried it with this unit and it’s working. Kids are happy and learning and I feel like I am getting everything in. I may try it for our introduction to force and motion in a couple weeks, but I love science experiments so I’ll have to squeeze those in. I’ve also just started recording 10 minute math videos so when I’m in small group math, I’m also teaching a small group by video. Other students are in more active “rotations”. Hope you’re having a great year!
Do you have a TPT store to share your booklet
I don’t have a TPT store. Happy to share whatever I have. This booklet I just pieced together from old resources I had used in the past. Think I’ll redo this next year and “clean it up” a bit. (Of course, then I’ll need to make new anchor charts and recordings.) I hardly ever laminate or print in color because after 20+ years, I still rarely do anything the same way twice. There’s always a better way. 😊Let me work on that and I’ll send it your way. 😊
Great Ideas! I am inspired. Keep up the great work you are doing. Do you have the link or a soft copy of the booklet for Terrible Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day?

Thanks so much for watching. I am glad you found the video(s) useful.
The Power of Yet is a great SEL book. Is Ms. Bullock wearing a microphone? If so, what is her set up? It’d be nice to use a regular voice volume more often.
Thanks so much for watching. I agree. Yes, I was was wearing a microphone. Our county has a microphone "setup" in every classroom. I don't know what brand it is. I just know that it has an on/off switch on the microphone and I can control the volume through the same control panel that controls our LCD projector. The sound is projected through four ceiling speakers.

Hi Ms. Bullock...I love your viedos...do you interview and change up jobs every week?
Hi. Thanks so much for watching! I interview throughout the year (whenever a student submits an application), but it won't be a "full in front of the class model" type interview. I'll interview individually during arrival, dismissal, recess (those type times where I can talk with that child one on one). I don't change jobs unless a child requests a change. Some children try a job and decide that it's not for them, so they'll "give me notice" and keep doing the job for a couple days or until someone else interviews and gets hired. They'll help train their replacement. Some jobs require more than one student, for example, I usually have two tech helpers and two pencil sharpeners and four teacher helpers. It flexes depending on the needs of our class and student ideas. Ideally, I hope that every child will end up with at least one job (and I may nudge that along by saying something like..."You're doing such a great job reminding your friends to push in their chairs when we line up. You would be great at a job like that.") Some children absolutely LOVE jobs , and the resulting pay days so they may hold multiple jobs, but often I limit that until everyone has a chance to apply. I usually don't let a child hold more than three jobs, and then they need to be ones that don't impact our learning or require less intensity, like "clinic escort", which only requires you escort someone to the clinic and drop off when needed (but you still get paid whether that is necessary that week or not). The only job that is not "hired out" is the "leader". Everyone gets to be leader multiple times throughout the year and we just take turns moving through our class list in alphabetical order. It's all about empowering children to take charge of our classroom and learning environment...once they do that, it's just a small step to taking care of his/her own learning. I hope that helps! Love to hear how it works for you. :)
Thank you so much...yes that was very helpful...God bless you!😊
Thank you! can you go more in detail about the work habit/conduct card? Do you use it all year?
Thanks so much for watching and commenting. Instead of a long written response here, I think that may be worthy of a short video. I will try to get that done tomorrow after school and get it posted tomorrow evening.
Hi. Thanks again for watching. I just scheduled a "classroom management" video to release at 10:00 AM this morning (8/10/24). Hopefully, it will answer any questions you have. If you have questions after the video, just ask.

Those were ordered from a company called Takedown360...looks like they probably only deal with bulk orders. takedown360.com As I was looking around their website, I saw that our school system is listed under their "case studies" section so that is probably where our school got the name from. My friend who is involved in the ordering said that we have ordered from them for several years...they tell the company the "look" and theme that they are going after and they put it together. takedown360.com/case-study-gcps/

This is really neat. What non academic tasks will you have them do to practice?
Thank you! I tried this out the last couple of weeks of the year last year and it was amazing! So powerful and every child engaged and collaborating. This author has a book with a variety of tasks, but I haven’t had a chance to read it yet. I’m in a book study that’s working through the first book, so I’m researching and trying to compile non curricular tasks and curricular tasks that I hope to put into a slideshow. (That’s one of my goals for this year. :))
