มุมมอง 6K8 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is my 1960 IH Cub Lo Boy tractor I bought back in 2022 when we moved to our new Property. I asked a few friends and family members on what I should get to maintain the grass and they all said “you want a Zero Turn” Well a guy went the complete opposite direction and bought the most unique piece of equipment I could find to cut the lawn. I hope yall enjoy the video erichsgarag...

Boyyy. I love me a old Merc! Can't wait to see what you do with it. That CIS injection can be a bitch but it's not crazy complicated.
Might have to get you to come take a look at it with me
Im your 500th sub. Nice tractor
Nice tip on priming the oil pump.. Thank you !!
Very neat technique you’ve got there! My dad loves customizing his Harley so I’m forwarding this to him now!
So to tell timing.. take the distributer cap off....and make sure the rotor button when its pointing to number 1 plug...is lined up with the notch in the distributor housing?? So they all make a straigjt line???... im working on a cub also...
Correct. It’s something I picked up working on these. Cylinder one has to be at top dead center. Depending on what you are working on if it’s a cub, take the number one spark plug out I usually stick my finger over the spark plug hole and bump the starter over till I feel compression. Then I’ll use flash light and use the cooling fan to pull the piston up to top dead center. Some thing goes for the super A’s, 100’s, 140’s etc. When you have the engine at top dead center you can adjust the distributor to how I mentioned. Number one plug on the distributor cap is normally marked with a 1 but if it’s not. Just know that it’s opposite the notch on the distributor .
@@ErichsGarage I got mine going....I found it to be 180 degrees out of time
Why did you swap the distributor?? Did you swap caps or the whole thing??
I usually keep a good distributor on hand for testing.
I have a 87 Nighthawk that’s setting under a shed. I think it’s going to be one of my grandchildren’s project.
Yep I came back to the first one. Gotta see them all.
Great video. Audio not so much lol. Still enjoyed it. Just feel bad for you after all the work you put in to make this video and it messed up during the download.
I appreciate it. Yeah I’m not sure what happened, video saved fine, but when uploaded to TH-cam it jumbled up the audio
Love the sound of those 140’s running. Both standing still and rolling down the road in 4th you can tell it’s a Farmall just by hearing engine run and the rear end whine. They do have a distinct sound.
Sub number 430 here. Years ago our family farm in South Central Virginia used a 140 to raise about 10 acres of tobacco. We could plow, plant, harvest( pulled wagons) and bush hog the stubble with that single tractor. We also used it to raise grain crops too. The only thing we didn’t do with it was bale hay or pull a combine.
My Dad mowed our yard (5 acres) with a 49 Cub for 35 years. I started with a 68 Low-Boy, and then upgraded to a Super A. Then I changed again to a 68 140 with Woods L59 mower. Amazing rig really. I also have an Allis B with a sickle bar mower that's a good rig too.
What mower deck is on your loboy? My wife has a 1955 loboy and I installed a Kub Klipper deck on it. The problem I'm having is the swivel caster wheels on the front of the deck hit the front tires when making a turn unless I pull the axles all the way out and then it just looks stupid. The mounts on your swivel casters look different than ours do.
The deck on my loboy was designed for the loboy, it’s a IH/Danco c-3 mower deck
Somehow the audio got out of sync with the vision and the vision seemed to be in fast forward for some reason ?
Yes as I described in the description something happened with the audio during the upload. Is there something I can help you with?
1st!
if your going to really build thus channel you need to invest some time snd money into cleaning up and organizing that mess you call a shop!
I’m I one man show and also work full time, I work with what I have and make do.
He is autistic, and an insperation. You should be more careful with your words.
your camera keeps going from dark to bright?
man shop is a mess!
Sorry if the “mess” offends you.
did you check the pushrods for straight?
I usually soak all those parts in cleaner over niht?
how do you work with all the stuff in the way?
wheres your work table you'll have parts everywhere?
🎵🎶🎵 She thinks my tractor's sexy🎶🎶🎵🎵
Nice Ford Offset tractors. On the 600, that is just the series number, not the model number. It will be a 620, 630, 640, 650, 660 or 670. The model number and the serial number will be stamped on the flat horizontal portion of the transmission just behind the starter on the left side. More than likely it's a 640 since it's a 4 speed and I'm assuming it has a PTO and a 3 point hitch. The 620 and 630 would be minus one or both of those features. The 600 series was made between 1955 and 1957 and was replaced by the 601 series. The series for the offset tractors was the 501....the 541 was a specific model number of that series and I believe the only model of that series. Ford like to use series number like 600, 700, 800, 900 then later 501, 601, 701 etc. with a specific model number like 541, 640, etc to identify which feature that tractor had. i.e. 4 speed, 5 speed, Select-O-Speed, PTO, Live PTO, 3 point, etc. The 541 was replaced by the 2000 Offset in 1962. I had a few Farmalls, a couple of F Cubs, a B, a C and an H. Of those, I like the H the best.

Nice find. I'd keep it origenal with 6v and magneto. With charging system working. Everthing will work as it should. I had a 1948 cub My wife mowed with. It was so quite and smooth running. It is a manual reguling system by knob on dash. Eith Lo or Hi.
If that's a 1977 model it's seen a rough life. I have a 1977 that my late father purchased new. It was used for several years on our tobacco farm towing a PTO driven sprayer and it still looks new compared to this one. I use it in the garden now.
It got overheated for sure. There are O-Rings on the bottom of the cylinder sleeves. The head gasket seals the top of the sleeves. They are wet sleeves, surrounded by coolant.
My German shepherd flips out whenever I do anything in the yard it's jealousy
How much was the tenth I need one badly
have you ever tried to kiss a man on his lips? 🌈
You have a nice collection there! I have a '39 M, a '56 100 and a '81 274. You can't beat the Farmalls! All the best from Sophia, N.C.
Thanks 👍
Great idea with the sonic cleaner, I have one the same size that uses a heap of chemical, I hadn’t thought of putting the parts in a smaller plastic tub and fill the cleaner with just water, ripper idea . Greetings from AUS 🦘🇦🇺. Just a tip, cut the audio when you fast forward the vision and you won’t sound like one of the chipmunks 😁 great video
Good job
Nice man
Hey! My first tractor was also a 1960 cub lo boy! Keep up the good work! 🇺🇸
Thank you! I plan on converting her to 12v soon. Iv put 3 voltage regulators on this tractor and that’s 3 too many for me. I need this one to run at all times as it’s the one I bought and use solely for cutting the grass. Who needs a zero turn?!
@@ErichsGarage I hear ya, I just bought the conversion stuff for mine as well. That's awesome you're still getting some good use out of her. They were really built to last as long as you take care of em a bit!
Looking good Erich! Lawn looks great, put them clippings in a round bail made of cattle panel and hardware cloth and turn into leaf mold compost for your garden. I’m in the process of rebuilding my ‘75 Cub and painting the cultivater frames I bought from you. Keep up the great work buddy, channel is looking great! Craig
Great video. I have a 99 shadow, single carb. I am in the process of cleaning up what was a semi - botched custom job. Can’t wait to see what you do with this. Having had an early dual carb shadow I can tell you single carb is definitely the way to go
Hi Mr. E!
Go Mr. E
Make it run an live along 😊
Did you lap the valves..
No. There was no need to lap the valves.
Why didn’t you change the oil if it was contaminated by coolant before trying to turn the engine over after the cylinder head gasket was installed 🇬🇧🇮🇪
That little bit of coolant isn’t going to hurt anything if just checking to make sure it runs before investing any more money into the tractor. Also there was no signs of coolant/water in the oil prior. This tractor will be getting fresh fluids and a new filter. Stay tuned for the next video!
I didn't know if the coolant had made its way into the oil galleries and down into the sump, Great video at least you're made it worth watching when's the follow up 🇬🇧🇨🇮.
Must be nice to have time to work on tractors when your needed to run a train.
Working on this tractor was a culmination of multiple days. Was running trains more than working on the tractor 🤣
Nice job you did of getting this one going again. I have a '65 140 and it's the smoothest running engine in any of my tractors. I couldn't quite tell but it looks like your right headlight is higher than the left. If so, it may be intentional. An oddball right headlight bracket is used when a one-arm model 1000 IH loader is installed on these tractors (my tractor's got one). The headlight on a standard bracket would interfere with the loader arm, thus the funky bracket is used, but it then makes the right headlight sit higher than the left, and then makes the tractor look goofy from the front.
Thank you and that’s good information to know. The left side headlight was crush. Apparently this tractor had flipped over at some point.
@@ErichsGarage Ha, that would do it too! :-)
Well done and it sounds nice
Thank you!
I love the competence shown the fix it back to working and the confidence to reverse it off a trailer without moving the expensive looking truck parked outside the garage first! What a great tip about priming the oil pump through that small hole in the filter housing as a possible way to get oil pressure back after sitting a long while.
Nice bring back, Clean her up and make her right
Pretty encouraging! I might have to get a few items to swap out on the 560 in the field here!
All it takes is alittle determination! There are plenty people selling used and new parts for these old Farmall/IH tractors. Heck there’s a bunch of stuff for almost all tractors out there still
Great video. I’ve been struggling with trying to get the dual carbs running right on my bike for a while now, so I think I’ll give this a shot. What are you doing for throttle cables? Did you use existing ones? Thanks
You can basically use a universal throttle cable kit and build your own. For testing purposes I just modified the stock cable to work for now.
Please, could you explain What's the pros and cons of replacing the dual carb for a single? And where did you ordered it from?
a single carb is literally half the parts to maintain/potential problems. you don't have to sync multiple carbs, there's fewer jets to get blocked, etc. And with his current setup he can have the carb off in near seconds. those dual carbs are wedged in there.
Have a single carb is super easy to deal with. Can almost swap jets without even removing the carburetor. Also with the mikuni VM style carb there are numerous different jet sizes but the needle itself is also adjustable for super fine tuning. The only reason I went this route is because I hate dual carburetors and they were already giving me trouble from the start.
Just found your channel and Subscribed. Very nice video. Good luck with your channel
Thank you, I greatly appreciate it
