This is a short video I made on a 1970's BikeBug that I picked up recently and mounted on one of my older road bikes. It's a lot of fun, but probably a little annoying for neighbors since is about as loud as a small chainsaw when you are at full throttle.

Honda CT90 Automatic Clutch Operation
มุมมอง 23K5 ปีที่แล้ว
This is a short clip from a longer video I made showing how the automatic clutch in a CT90 operates when you shift gears. To make this video I machined the cases of a CT90 engine so it could still be assembled and all the parts operate, but you could see all the internal components as they operate. I made a longer video showing the complete cut-away engine here at this link: th-cam.com/video/z0...
CT90 Engine Exposed!

    Why does everyone use a dinosaur meter? I have a fluke 179 and not understanding meters well . I don’t know what setting to use compared to your double knob tester ? Can you make a video (testing for dummies ) using a fluke meter please ? 🙏🏼 Also , what should the readings be for a ct90 with condenser ? Thank you in advance

    What happens when you turn the screw tooo much ? Seems like I tightened it to far and it skipped and went loose again ??? If that’s possible ? When I try and kick start it . Sometimes the kick start grabs and slips rather then turn the piston .? Does that make sense ?

    • @michaelmineart1889

      It's really hard to say. There could be something wrong with the shifting forks being worn or bent or something else internal that isn't allowing the full travel when you go to shift from 2nd to third that isn't allowing it to get fully into gear. If an engine hasn't been well maintained there is a good chance there is a lot of crud in the engine that potentially impact/inhibit what's going on in the gearbox. I am a big believer in at a minimum changing out the oil in any old bike I pick up and flushing it once or twice if the original oil looked pretty bad. I run Shell Rotella T6 Full Synthetic in all of my CT90's and think it makes the bikes smoother shifting. Oil recommendations are like politics and everyone seems to have an opinion, so I'm not recommending Rotella, but just sharing what I happen to use and that I am happy with. I hope you get you bike squared away.

    Thank you for a great video. I have followed your clip but I can not loosen the lock nut. The pin keeps turning with the lock nut. I have sprayed wd40 & tapped the nut gently with a hammer but to no avail. The pin is starting to damage although minor I thought maybe some one can guide me on what I should do?

    • @michaelmineart1889
      @michaelmineart1889 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't know if I can help you without actually being there to see the issue first hand. You should be able to first loosen the nut with a 14mm socket or wrench without having to hold the pin and then once the nut is loose then you should be able to screw the pin in or out as required while holding the loosened nut. If the nut just spins with the pin when you are trying to loosen the nut then its possible (but I don't know for sure) that the plate with a stud on inside the assembly doesn't have the stud correctly installed in a hole in the inside of the housing/cover and you would need to pull the clutch cover and get those parts installed correctly. I am just guessing here as without actually seeing the problem first hand it's hard to say exactly what the problem is. I hope you are able to figure out what the issue is.

    Great video! Thanks. Liked and Subbed! Question: on my Super Cub, above 15~ 20 kph when I release the throttle, the clutch does NOT disengage, not even partially. As in, the bike does not roll freely. It's still completely in gear. Without throttle there's engine braking. This is true in any gear. 1st is understandable as it's for very slow uphill conditions. But 2nd gear and 3rd gear most noticeable, for as soon as the throttle is released, the bike drops down in speed dramatically (along with a whining gear sound). s this normal? I've been told it is. But it doesn't seem normal to me. The mini bikes I've ridden in the past, rolled freely when you let off the throttle. Here, on the 2004 Super Cub (C50), when I let off the throttle, the bike slows down dramatically. (engine braking). Hmm. Thanks. Subbed! Cheers from Tokyo. You can see the bike I'm talking about on TH-cam here. Look up: 'HONDA SUPER CUB Park and Ride' or "HONDA SUPER CUB ~ 'Super Dream' " Cheers. PS: is the clutch easy to replace? Or do you need specialized tools? I have the usual basic tools, ratchet, box wrenches. etc. Love the cutaway of the clutch mechanism!

    What problem does a bad condenser cause? ( burning of points?)

    • @michaelmineart1889
      @michaelmineart1889 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A good condenser does help prevent burning of the points by absorbing energy each time the points are opened, but it also helps the field in the coil collapse quicker which will result in a hotter spark at your plug.
