For next time, Snap them off. You can use a wrench or a ratchet and socket, put it on the nut and bend it back and forth its alot easier then ud think they will snap after 3 or 4 bends.

Grind flats on your vice grip screw adjuster, tighten it after its clamped. Add a rag into the jaws, that sometimes helps. If its an old part getting swapped for new, fuck it get out the sawzall or angle grinder, cut through the shaft, easy peasy Also, if old part coming out, change over to tightening it, snap the top off, easy out. Otherwise, well, these moments are what make the best mechanics into the legend mechanics. Good luck
