SOUTH SISTER SUMMIT | Camping on Oregon's 3rd Highest Peak!
July 8-9 2024, we summited and set up camp on Oregon's third tallest mountain, South Sister. 10,358 feet. The hike from Devil's Lake Trailhead is about 11.6 miles round trip with 4,986 feet in elevation gain. No technical climbing but micro spikes might've been nice in the snow! LOTS of mosquitos for the first few miles this time of year but they didn't bother us at the top. At night we had little to no wind and the stars were OUT! Overall a very fun experience. :) If you're not too bothered by cold water, I definitely recommend taking a swim at ~8,800 feet! This was also a great spot to refill on water (bring a filter).

Pulling your dometic stock fridge and giving up your floor space for a fridge you don’t use! Bad idea - you should have fixed your stock fridge instead of swallowing the gowesty BS.
Sorry sir but that’s just your opinion. I love the extra storage and the Dometic fridge is bigger and more efficient than the original ever was. I use it when I take trips so of course it won’t always be stocked. The floor space doesn’t bother me at all. Thanks 👋🏼

My family went to the peak of Mt. Olympus in Washington in 2008, it was the middle of July and there was still over 4 ft of snow. My brother and cousins got to make a snowman in the middle of the summer lol

Another 82 Westy owner here. I get what you are saying about the vibe. I also own a Ford E250 4x4. Bought it thinking I would like something bigger. It is nice but I take the Vanagon everywhere. I can't help but love it. Funnest thing I own.

I think you made a good decision on (Oregon) I live in the Willamette Valley/ I keep a home base here/ and travel as much as I Need to/ (to clear my head). I have a 82 westy/ really enjoy it/ I am solo camping so pretty much can go were & when I want to go/ Good Luck to You/ Enjoy your journey 🤩

Hi, I have the 82 westy/ maybe you can answer a ? Of mine/ I have the heavy duty struts on my pop top/ and Thule storage bin on top/ it’s a BEAR TO OPEN AMD CLOSE for me/ yours seemed to just glide With easy operation/ any ideas or tricks I should know about? thx
Mine only has some snowboard gear in it right now! If it’s super full it’s not this simple. And I sometimes have to use the top of my head to lower slower 😂 …is yours super full/where are your struts from? My solar panels are also really lightweight.
