In this video I pop open 4 boxes of manga, video games, toys and merch that weighed a combined 37kg!

    Hi Anime Inferno, I'm think about grabbing one of these cards to capture some old VHS movies. Im worried i could get scrambled video, I see you were able to capture Laser Disc, have you had any issues doing that with other discs or tryd capturing any old VHS tapes with this card? any issues? Thanks

    • @animeinferno
      @animeinferno ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm, at this stage the only video playback source I've tested with the card are anime laserdisc releases from the mid-late 90s - at the time I made that video my trusty Panasonic 6-head VCR was elsewhere in the house and I hadn't thought to add that into the mix. I don't know if my test LDs had macrovision or not unfortunately. In theory, if the content doesn't have macrovision protection you'll be fine, but if it's a commercial release it will have it in all probability. I'm unsure if what you're trying to capture is something taped off a TV or an official release, but if it's the latter it'll probably have macrovision. My capturing setup is a little messy at the moment but I should be able to give it a quick test in a few weeks - if I can run some macrovision-protected content through it I'll respond here to let you know how it goes.

      @@animeinferno Hi Anime Inferno, I have a mix of tapes, some do have Macrovision. I am hoping it will work with those too as the tapes I have were never released on any other format. I can capture from my cheap sony vcr using my advc110 which can handle the macrovision but that sony deck doesnt have a Time Based Corrector like my JVC SVHS deck does, but the JVC outputs NTSC as PAL60 which the advc110 I use to capturee to my PC cant deal with at all. The PEXHDCAP60L can handle pal60 but unsure if it can handle the Macrovision lol. Your captures look alot better than the ones I get from the ADVC so i just ordered a PEXHDCAP60L2 atleast i will get better quality captures for my home movies and tapes without macrovision. Fingers crossed though. If you find the time to try yours out it will be interesting as i ordered a slightly diffeerent model .Thank you very much for your response.

    Do the dvd’s work on region 2 DVD players ?

    • @animeinferno
      @animeinferno 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The packaging on the DVDs suggests it's locked but I double checked the disc itself - can confirm the Madman Sailor Moon DVDs are definitely region locked to Region 4 (Australia & New Zealand), so no luck if you have a Region 2 locked DVD player. On the upside they've kept the NTSC video so there's no additional artefacting as part of a PAL to NTSC conversion during the mastering process.

      @@animeinferno thanks for the info!.... Since the blu-rays of season 4 are out of print the DVDs are the only option and since I don't have a region free player I have rip them on my computer and then watch them as files... Great 😂

    I like the dvd better because it keeps the grain intact but the Blu Ray has better color clarity

    • @animeinferno
      @animeinferno 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, the issue of grain and that level of organic detail's a tricky thing to balance correctly. I think I'm happy with the software upscale on the SD masters for Sailor Moon, but when I reviewed some of the Dragon Ball Z movies that were fresh scans at HD, I felt the noise reduction was a little too aggressive for my liking (though others probably disagree!). Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this, I hadn't thought specifically of the grain, something to think about if I do some future comparison videos.

    I have an elgato game capture hd, when I have everything setup there is a 2 to 3 second delay on my capture pc, so I can't play consoles on my capture pc I have to connect the elgato to a tv to have lag free, can you tell me if the startech capture card has lag, I would use this card to just have a video input option on my pc if this was lag free

    • @animeinferno
      @animeinferno 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      From what I’ve read this card’s pretty close at doing the lag-free thing, but to be honest I can’t say as much from experience. For analogue consoles I run everything through a Kramer video matrix to simultaneously output to the card and to my CRT, and for HDMI sources my AV Receiver does twin HDMI output so I keep one running to my TV and the other to the capture card. Unsure if you had considered going down this route and looked at adding something to your video chain to achieve something similar (given the cost of this card it might be cheaper). I can dig up the model number for the Kramer units I’m using for my analogue capture if you like, otherwise it might be worth looking into HDMI options if that’s what you’re capturing. Good luck!

    Looks awesome! Hoping to get this card soon (at a less ridiculous price than $300...) to record NES yPbPr!

    • @animeinferno
      @animeinferno 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, it's a great card - I haven't tried recording a NES in component or RGB (haven't had the time to break out the soldering iron... yet!), but since it should outputs 240p all you'll need to do is get the settings right (happy to post as a reply if you get stuck) and you'll be set. The Wonderboy: The Dragon's Trap video I posted in April was also captured using this card, stunning HDMI capture but the trick is you need to have an audio connection on the PC or else it won't grab the audio. My trick there was to plug in a set of headphones on the PC's output jack.
