Ep 4 Pt 10 Clp || Why The Canary Islanders Were Treated Differently Than The Sub-Saharan Africans
These videos are for us, the dominicanyorks and other dominicans born outside of our island who are lost about who were really are as a people and nation. For those of us who have had to create our own identities because we lacked the knowledge of our people. This is for you all ❤️
The history of the Dominican Republic begins WAY before Colombus lost his way and ended up on our shores. The natives of the Canary Islands 🇮🇨 were the first to taste the savagery of European conquest. They are our big brother, and in this episode, I cover their suffering at the hands of those sent to exploit their land. But they didn’t go quietly, no! They fought back and even took the Spanish Crown to Court! They also had some allies along the way, including Queen Isabella I herself.
We are 3 dominicanyork, first generation Dominicans who have decided to rediscover the real history of our beautiful island and of those who had a hand in the formation of our identity today. We are doing this with the basics, an iphone and our basement. We will try to be as accurate as possible, but we are not experts, so please excuse our mistakes.

yeah, Muhammad wanted slavery abolished, had wars with other Arabs about that and their treatment of women because he said theyre equal to men, Omar nearly abolished slavery but then they lost the wars after that to the other pagan Arabs and Persians and ottomans, by that time, Islam spread already across the Mediterranean, Africans including North Africans misused it, it's illegal to enslave someone and tell them if they become Muslim they'll be free.. they did that, mansa musa and tippu tip were "Muslim" by name only, they were ENEMIES to God. Muslims always revere Omars reign because it was BEFORE the sects and corruption of the religion, people like the ottomans especialmente HIJACKED Islam to create empires out of it like the romans did with the testament Jesus brought in Palestine, the romans also CORRUPTED Christianity like Islam was CORRUPTED, when religions and powerful things that have people FOLLOW your command gets taken over by an EVIL entity evil things happen, but yeah the sects also determine who was involved and who WASN'T its not black and white there were people who were still used to Omars system, but also there were others who would capture European invaders their history is LONG Europeans always end up on people's lands lol so there was so much bitterness there, and till this day they use a slur for them "berber" meaning barbaric so yeah they always hated one another but Europe obviously was always the instigator even after North Africans got their lick back, the Europeans invaded and scrambled for Africa right after that... the global south never stood a chance, even during the roman era these ppl didn't WANT to be part of their empires they wanted their own and eventually MADE their own kingdoms

While yes most forms of slavery world wide ie slavery in East Asia, Tibet, serfdom Russia, indigenous pre-colonialism North American slavery was not as harsh and rigid as these other forms. When compared to the GLOBAL African slave trade, there was some harsh similarities with Romani slavery, in Walachia, Aztec/Mayan slavery and India where there was little movement out of the practice. This analysis becomes a form of presentism. Where you are trying to apply modern aesthetics and opinions. Its a disservice to the topic as that’s not the point of researching these topics to declare society and cultures as better. They are just different. it shouldn’t be treated as “not so bad”. You were still subjected to no autonomy, no rights, limitations on marriages and social movement, and no body autonomy… yes there was rape and many of these associations became generational… It’s not a point in a better society but just variations in cruelty. It does little assuage the serf to say it’s not as bad as chattel slavery when you are raped beaten and stripped of your dignity and ripped from your family members. Instead the assessment is that’s it’s just different. Those that benefited from the global African slave Trade included Africans themselves and ex slaves black Americans owned black slaves.

Exactly and it doesn’t matter which religion you pick because it’s actually more prevalent in Muslim society. There was also a Native American slave, trade and many prominent blacks own sleeves in the south as well And if you were to compare and contrast the Muslim Arab trade with the European slave trade, you will find it was much more longer in years and higher in numbers. Has Kyrie Irving pointed out Jewish people were extremely prevalent in the slave trade as it was extremely profitable There’s a lot of emphasis on the European slave trade which is fair cause we live in the Americas However she didn’t point out where the African slaves were actually bought. This is important because she ventures indentured servitude in which a person actually signs a contract so a person could actually volunteer to do this. Many Irish came to the Americas as indentured servants. Where as the the Arabism slave trade started from Muslim colonization and stealing people from European countries. the word slave actually comes probably the Slavic people of Eastern Europe. And she corrected pointed out now we just have debt slavery.

they took North Africans the amazigh and that reconstruction isn't quite right 😂 they didn't have locs 😭😩 they braided hair like the vikings but the invasions that happened in Spain was after years and years of subjugation and wars with the romans and fight for identity like numidia for example but yeah we Brown people and have all types of eye colors and hair colors and textures just obviously we don't look like anyone else outside of the Mediterranean obviously. We were too brown and can get too dark to be considered white so they called us SAND N WORDS with a hard R... in America North Africans get dragged or straight up attacked because of their race they assume them to be invaders but they're LITERALLY INDIGENOUS and NOT WHITE, the only people who call themselves white are those who don't understand what it means because they threw out the whites so to THEM? they're the whitest on the continent lmao they don't understand that ACTUAL whites don't view them as equals. White skin doesn't react to the desert the way ours does because it's our natural habitat and not theirs. North Africans are NOT aware that they are very different to those pink people because they don't come across them everyday like we do OUTSIDE of North Africa... once you meet a white person and put your arms next to one another there's VISIBLE differences between North Africans and Europeans. Genes are entirely different also because tribes back then it was taboo and dangerous to mix outside of the tribal designations. But yeah as a whole? we got it from ALL SIDES Europeans wanted our lands, subsaharan tribes invaded us too and there's cases where there were infighting obviously where others like Europeans or subsaharans would come in and take advantage of the situation but we truly are the forgotten people and its by DESIGN. Ifrikya is an amazigh deity the ifri deity of WAR its a North African tribe, and by the time kingdoms were formed like numidia the romans and greeks would call ALL of the continent Africa because they can't pronounce ifrikya. Same way people call canaan KAYNAN because they can't pronounce it lool. Those brown ethnic groups are indigenous to the mountains of the desert each mountain had a tribal name.. it's an amalgamation of the entire region of the Mediterranean through wars and endless suffering. The people that look similar to us can be found on the sahel, and Mauritania all the way to the levant and Iraq Mesopotâmia where the guy SHEM is from so when you hear semites... chances are those white colonisers DO NOT have iraqi proto ancestry 😂 everyone that came and left or married in found amazigh people indigenous to the region just as the stone age DNA of the Egyptians and canaanites, the romans eating Egyptian mummies and canaanites or Palestinian kids on spit fires they didn't mind because yes they were different but where Europeans were MORE filthy they didn't make a big deal out of race. The greeks would tan and get dark like persians too so they Couldnt let that go... it didn't become RACIAL until they met abyssinyas Ethiopians, granted they were dark but not quite west African so they called them "sun burnt" it wasnt an offensive term back then because they too would get pretty dark. Racism kicked in when they began dehumanising people based on tribes it was racism and favouritism between tribes, same in India it was WHO THEY AS WHITES FAVOURED.. its sick and barbaric and its still happening today in western sahara by Morocco backed by whites, and Palestine too the romans are simply BACK, but yeah that whole strip are the brown folks BETWEEN subsahara and the dark skin west Asians and south Asians possibly NATIVE AMERICANS TOO and pink/white Europe. In America the North had lighter natives and the South had darker natives much like Africa and India. The coastal north africans could be considered caucasoid but depends on their skintone in the sun and their features 😂 the French were VERY racist towards them blue eyes blonde hair or light brown hair IT DIDN'T MATTER still not white enough just like Palestinians today, their skintone, hair TEXTURE and features were DISTINCT. That was ENOUGH to dehumanise us. These whites envied Persia persepolis, petra babylon sumeria Mesopotâmia Egypt numidia even or ifrikya they smelled bad and practiced cannibalism it wasn't until they saw our aqueducts and hammams from rivers did they then create the ROMAN BATHS 😂 they still used the same stick to share to wipe with... till this day they use TISSUE and are being PROMPTED BY US to use the bidet lmao they call it 'the Muslim shower handle" in Europe because IT OR A JUG is a STAPLE in every bathroom in North Africa and the Mediterranean.

@PlatanoConSalamiHistory no worries lool plenty of North Africans don't know and use it because they don't speak Latin anymore so they forgot what it means through time and French colonialism they just think it's the ENGLISH word for amazigh but no it has a more sinister meaning, there's a FEW slurs they gave them the British one was "moors" and "sand N words/hardR) but the only slur that's OBVIOUS is the sandNR the other two are subtle but steeped in racism because they lumped ancient kingdoms and random tribes together or they'll intentionally mispronoune things, you know... white people 😭😩

The APACHE Indians crossed themselves like a Christian and spoke Spanish? who rode horses taught by Spaniards? who used Spanish rifles? a real savage??? They lived 300 years under Spanish culture, and when the "English" arrived, the American Indians were... Spanish, the famous Indian Geronimo spoke of all this. And SPAIN banned slavery since the year 1500, Geronimo said that when Mexico got his independence from Spain, the new mexicans removed the rights of the native americans, as the mexicans actually were spanish-mixed people that independenced with the help of the enlgish to be rich and dont share the money with the rest of the spanish lands.

Where did you read about Zameaca? Was Zameaca the same as Catalina? It got a bit confusing. Please share the book. Thanks ❤

@@janets9688 Yes! It is believed that Zameaca was her indigenous name but she was given the name of Catalina once she “accepted” christianity. All of my sources are in the description below the video. Unfortunately, we don’t have one book that speaks about her. I gathered all info I could find on her and shared it here. ❤️ Oviedo and Las Casas both speak about her.
