I'm a little late to the party but seeing this NEXT that's not even at Full power be this much if a threat and after playing AC4A, I don't understand why Humans decided to downgrade to normal AC'S? Why didn't we keep making NEXTS they are obviously so much better?

Back when fromsoft made games for men. Now its all shit for gamers who need shit like "i-frames" and whine and moan about bosses being too hard. Honestly depressing going back to the real fromsoft games after playing the souls games and whatever that travesty was of the AC fires of rubicon. That was straight up an insult to everyone who waited a decade for something decent. But ah well, more boring zelda ripoffs that take zero skill to play.
@kaltsssit there was no refinement at all in the gameplay. Its all graphical. FFS, VI doesn't even have any real physics, it was literally built off of elden ring, hell even the PS1 games are better! Even back then your AC had mass. You start bosting and stop, your AC keeps going, while in VI? You start boosting and stop? Your AC immediately comes to a halt, doesn't matter if you're going the games maximum speed, you'll still stop instantly. And thats not even going on the severe lack of parts. Fromsoft severely dumbed it down so it so the souls players could play.
@thomasleonard8550 ? Souls and Armored Core have been connected in engine from the very start. Kingsfield from 1, all the way to the Ancient City had the same obtuse control scheme as old AC, using the bumpers and triggers to navigate. Saying they're built off the same framework isn't a complaint: it's a statement that's been accurate since the very start of both series. Granted, the lesser parts/categories have dumbed it down and streamlined it, but the gameplay has never been better. It was good enough to revive the series from a decade long death. The older games have their strengths over 6, but as a complete package 6 is an amazing entry into the series. Don't forget For Answer was beloved for precisely the same thing: disregarding the traditional AC formula, and going for more experimental gameplay and mechanics. It resulted in a cult following with FA, and it resulted in a cult following with 6 as well.
@kaltsssit Kings field and AC may have had "similar" controls (and thats a stretch), but they are completely different. They always have been. until elden ring an ACVI where it actually is the same engine. And yeah, that is a bad thing. It's like putting a Lamborghini body on a Volkswagen beetle. Sure, it looks the part, but does it perform as it should? God no. It's why movement in VI is fubar. You're locked on the horizontal axis while quick boosting (just like souls games), completely removing turn rate and adding a detached camera (just like souls games) you cant cut your boosters to free fall to lose altitude to dodge, you can only glide down. As i said earlier, your AC has no momentum behind its movements. The only hint of physics is having your boost speed lowered due to heavy parts. It doesn't make you fall faster. it doesn't make it harder to change directions, just slower boost speed. And the fourth and fifth gen games may have completely changed the formula, but they still made it feel like you were piloting a mech. Which is something you can't really do using an engine where you control a person. The beautiful graphics, fresh yet familiar mechanical designs, the best painting we've ever had, new world and story are all nice, but those still dont hide the fact that everything about the AC controls is all sorts of wrong. Only things fun about gameplay is how you stop the assault boost like downshifting and the attitude control system.
@@thomasleonard8550 Actually, you can freefall. Just let go of the left analog stick while you're in the air; if you're not moving in any directions it'll cut your boosters off. I'd also argue that V/VD are much more locked to the horizontal axis than 6. If you didn't have a wall to kick, you'd never get more than a jump off the ground. I think you're really underestimating the capabilities of an engine. We've seen Unity stretched into a million different directions; do you think Fromsoft's engine only works with one genre of games? And saying it doesn't feel like you're piloting a mech is completely your opinion. I loved the new direction; it makes sense being able to control your mech so smoothly with a coral interface. It shows a clear progression in AC technology from the hands-on controls of the early gens, to the huge advantage coral-addicted pilots had over standard. And it definitely still feels like I'm piloting a mech. I'd say that 6 doesn't have the weightiest mechs. But to say they're not mech-like at all doesn't really fit right imo. I'd say it's definitely weightier than FA. And despite being more lightweight, FA is still peak. I can't really argue that something in the middle of the heavy/light spectrum is less dedicated than either extreme. One thing I will say is a legitimate complaint is the soundtrack. Most of the tracks are terribly uninspired; Contact With You's the only one I ever really remember.
To think that a machine, that would be considered standard one generation before can be so easily used as a boss is just showing the sheer power of NEXTs
I know jack shit about Armored Core, but with that music blasting in the background and what little context the intro gives me, I cant help but picturing both pilots having an unhinged smile on their faces despite the situation they are fighting for.
In all honesty, "War is part of my existence" should be up there in terms of nightmare-inducing lines. Just like Nine-Ball Seraph's "Target Verified. Comencing Hostilities."
This narrative is dumb. 5th gen AC's aren't piles of scrap. The C03 Malicious's the Lone Mercenary piloted are all made of completely new parts. Not to mention he canonically counterpicked J.
Compared to the NEXT it's a pile of scrap, the point is more so it's not nearly as strong, they are new parts but I believe compared to even third or second gen AC’s the fifth games AC’s are worse (cough cough, energy at 30%)
And so, after 10 years, the Verdict War comes to a close. R.I.P. to the Armored Core: Verdict Day online servers. May we meet again in our mechanized memories, day after day.
AC5/VD's entire schtick is that it's effectively a dark age following the collapse of every megacorporate structure post-Economic War in 4/FA, and most of the frameworks of the time in 5/VD use components older than most humans at that point? hell, that's evident in Dark Glint's model; LAHIRE core, White Glint Arms and Head with what look like something between LAHIRE, 03-AALIYAH, and White Glint Legs. it's the aftermath of a world-consuming war, one which sank cities and smothered the atmosphere in kojima particle contamination, and it's all vault-dwellers scavenging the wasteland. and then proceeding to not learn that mechanized warfare on this scale is what got us there in the first place. so in other words, it's the average Armored Core backdrop. the only other time that an AC has had this sort of energy management problem is in two circumstances; either you don't have enough EN Load freed up for faster in-combat recovery, or you're playing AC2/Another Age, where Radiators were a major part that can lead to instant death if it gets broken.
Anyone else notice that at 4:22 J's voice starts to double slightly with a higher pitched voice in the back? Reminds me of Nineball's multi voices, could be a callback like the Pulverizer in AC Nexus

Ac6 was a great upgrade and refinement of Fromsoft's formula. This is like demonizing Demon Souls for evolving its formula from the Kingsfield series
