On the second week, we had more instruction on the English wheel using flat top wheels, full radius and a rubber band for the upper wheel as well as different wheeling positions and techniques. I was able to critique Kjeld's welding to a better level and he improved greatly. We incorporated the PullMax with stretching dies and the different fabrication of different dies, the thumbnail die for s...

Thank you @spiderbrandt4066!
aren't they Fiberglass on a 64 , my mate has one
Yes, the original Thunderbolt's were fiberglass to make it lightweight for drag racing. Red wanted one for his street car so we used the fiberglass one as a buck.
Show us when you got it on the car going down the road. Until then I'm not interested.
Stop clowning around!
Amazing work. You have a professional grade school for every day joes. Very nice 👍🏻
Thank you Mr. Scott!
Cool teach them young
Great instruction on metal shaping
Thank you Jeff for your encouragement!
"put a little English on it"?
Really enjoying this series. Those changes of pressure on the wheel seem to be very subtle subtle.
That’s a real neat dolly you have mounted in the vice. Never seen one like it.
Thanks!
Sound quality very poor could not hear what was being said
I appreciate the feedback...I forgot to put in my AirPods to use as my microphone....
Great video, thank you. I haven't watched your others yet, but will. My first question was how to arrive at the initial trim? Second was detail of the metal, grade, and thickness?
Hello @enordquist1, using the wooden buck or an existing fender for outside perimeter, I made a paper pattern with an extra inch all around, wanting the weld in the high crown radius. The metal is I believe either a 20 gauge or18 gauge cold rolled steel US grade.
This is amazing.
True craftsmanship.
Kevin, next year I'd like to attend a private class at your workshop. You're a great teacher. I'm doing two classes this month and will attend Metal Meet in October. -Alex from Canada
Hello Alex! Thank you for your encouragement and you comment. Yes, plan on taking one of my private classes next year and we can come up with the perfect project to build your skills on. I will be at the Metal Meet this October and look forward to meeting you!~Kevin
What a cool process!
Thank you!
@KingdomMetalWorks Certainly! So nice to see the old methods still in use like real craftsmen!

Thanks very much Mike! Appreciate your encouragement!
What's the thickness of the sheet ?
Hello @GarvArri, it's .063 inch thickness.
you be able to work with 16ga mild steel with the larger heavy duty English Wheel? I really enjoyed your video and learned a lot. Thank You.
Yes, I can do 16 ga mild steel in the Excel wheel, no problem. Thank you for your comment, so glad that my video is helpful to you! ~Kevin
How much did your English wheel cost?
It cost me an arm and a leg....😉
seriously....I got it under market value as it was sold to me by a gentleman who was looking to have it go to a shop that would be teaching the art of the English wheel.
How much did your large gray English wheel cost?
Does it curve the fender?
Thank you for your question @Sebaxtain. He cut out a curved shaped panel and he is having to wheel it in a curve motion to shape it.
Great job, beautiful English wheel!!
Thank you!
I know this is for auto body, and that's what i plan to use it for. I can't help but think, though "I could make a pretty decent suit of armor like this"
I agree Xander!
hey Kevin, good to see a Dad get the young guy interested in these skills.
Hey Eddie! I agree, they make a good team and are having fun while learning metal shaping.
Interesting wheel. What we teach lives much longer than we do. Good Luck, Rick
Amen....Thanks Rick.~ Kevin
That is a gorgeous english wheel. How old is it? I tend to prefer the older tools because they were better built and usually elegant. I agree with doing by hand. There is a quiet satisfaction when shaping any material by hand. What we teach lives much longer than we do. Nice video. Good Luck, Rick
Hi Rick, thank you for your comment. The Excel English Wheels were made in the 1990's, I have one of 37 that were made. They are made of nodular steel instead of cast iron. I have used a lot of different wheel, and this Excel is my favorite. ~ Kevin
@@KingdomMetalWorksThanks for responding. I thought that it might have been much older. 40 years ago, I looked at a house for sale. Its barn had a sheet metal workshop. The tools were old but clean and recently used. It turned out that the old guy who owned the place had helped with the Statue of Liberty restoration. He claimed that these tools were also used on repairs of it in the 1920s. They were not included with the house. They were works of art and had the pin striping of old tools. Good Luck, Rick
@@richardross7219 What a great story Rick! Thanks for sharing as well. Kevin

Excellent video. I love it!! Good job!!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
The sound of the English wheel when the metal gets smooth is so satisfying. This is also one of my favorite metal working machines.
I totally agree!
I noticed on the 41 willys coupe body that there is small dots place all over it , where they doing a 3d scan of the body shell ?
Hello! Thank you for your question...yes, that is exactly what the dots were there for. Kevin

I heard a rumour the creator was a ex pat?
That is the truth! I expatriated from the UK 2 years ago and now I am a US citizen.
I do you all sell these hood scoops? Or do custom orders ?
Hi Chris, no, these are projects I put together for the student to do while we are doing their private class here at my shop. I do not fabricate car parts to sell as a rule.
I love that wheel, it’s one of the coolest I’ve seen
The owner fabed it up himself. Henry Mcallister of RODZ-N-MUSCLE. He bought a kit and added his own special touch to it.
@@KingdomMetalWorks it’s really cool, I’ve seen one, I think on a Eastwood video that has tires and rims and is made like a hot rod
The area that wasn't wheeled dropped into a low. Could you please do a follow up video showing how this was dealt with? Thank you
As this was a class that the student brought in his own project to create, I do not have the panel to finish and show you. If I had the panel, I would continue the wheeling and shaping from the crowned area into the hollow area and that would slightly crown it. I hope this helps and thank you for your comment, I really appreciate it.
@@KingdomMetalWorks Many thanks for your reply. The student looked a bit perplexed when he noticed the problem I thought. Would he have been better to have continued the wheeling into the lower panel to keep it under control and to prevent the low from forming? I think removing the low will present quite a problem for him. Please forgive these questions but the video gave a true insight into the real world and illustrated a problem that I as a novice have come up against before. Thank you.
Hello again, as to your question about the student continuing to wheel into the low portion of the panel, it may get too much shape too soon if he continued that way. Therefore, to try to keep that panel under control we were wheeling from the high crown into the lower area progressively, until it was fairly flat and not hollow. I hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions, Kevin
Couldn't hear the commentary
I really need to work on that...thanks for your input.
Good Videos . Question How is that Mittler Bros bench top English wheel your using in the video? Is it sturdy and the quality of the machine ? Thanks
Hello Michael, thank you for your question....I make sure that I have available in my shop for my metal metal shaping classes affordable machinery. The Mittler Bros Bench Top Wheel is a good quality wheel and great for the cost. It has a wide range of lower anvils to choose from. The stand that it comes on does have some flex, but the bench top wheel itself has no flex and does a great job of shaping metal.
Great instructional video. Your other videos on the reverse curve process are terrific also. Thanks for posting
Hello Ryan, thanks for your comment and endorsement!
Хороший обзор 👍 / Привет из Сибири ✊

hey, hello Kevin, thanks for all the videos. as was already asked in the comments, what planishing hammer do you have?( i don't remember it being there when i visited.) also, do you use 2, dead flat dies to planish the weld? thanks and hope all's well.
Hi Eddie, yes, the planishing hammer was there, it's a frame that holds different size pneumatic rivet guns. I have a full set of Hoosier Profile lower dies ranging from radius 1 to radius 36. I used a number 12 radius lower die to planish out the weld, which is not a dead flat die. I could have used a 24 radius die to keep the panel a lot flatter. The upper die is dead flat. All is well here...hope all is well with you!
@@KingdomMetalWorks hey , good to hear from you Kevin, all good here thanks. and thanks for the info. going to apply your procedures on my current project. should be fun cheers.
