This channel is all about drawing. I share tips, tricks and hacks for drawing. I also share about my personal journey as an artist. I believe talent is synonymous with interest. Very talented = very interested. Pursued interest equals talent. I am pretty sure this quote isn't mine. But I agree with it. So I welcome you to join me in the journey of pursuing the interest of drawing.

Thank u for your video and messages, it was super helpful for a newish drawer, thank u! Love your work, just ordered a pan pastel to tey it out. I love the wildness in your work, sometimes drawing can take u down a hole past your initial intention, and this seems a way of keeping it real and not getting lost in detail. Thank u for that!❤

Btw way my accent is Danish 😁
I like the accent. With any luck the drawing is good too.
I don’t think you need to do anything different! Just keep being you, we are all here because of you!
Wow! Thanks for this lovely comment!
I started drawing earlier in the summer, as a 41 year old dude, with no background. I find myself so drawn to gesture charcoal drawings for exactly the reasons you stated. The simple fact that details aren't completely filled in allows the viewer to fill them in themselves, and connect more personally.
I love that you started drawing earlier in the summer! And so cool you have identified this area of interest so soon. I think that can be so difficult. I find gesture absolutely magical!
I've been trying to focus on gesture drawing and really having trouble showing the movement and not making the figures look stiff. I'm looking forward to trying it this way. Recently I tried using a graphite sticks and just tried to draw the shadows of the form and nothing else and no lines. Did 1-2 minute sketches. It actually came out kinda cool, but as soon as I try to add detail that sense of motion goes away. Thanks.
@@MaximMelamed Yes! I find the same! Detail seems to be killer for loosing movement. It’s a real balance to get details in without loosing that movement!
Nice drawing and gesture !
@@umarujalloh2962 Thank you 👍👍👍

Love your work! And the principal of anonymity in work alluded me until now. Novel idea! I think it also helps to maintain a more looseness in the work as well. Never needing to define marks. Thank you kindly!

@@whenidecoratethings Thank You 🙏
@@whenidecoratethingsThank you, Elizabeth! 🤗
Another great piece of art, Sarah. There was one point that you touched upon in your narration that really resonated with me. Anonymity. I always feel so much more attached to a portrait of someone I don't know. Admittedly, there are some amazing portraits out there of well-known people, but I can only ever see them from a technical perspective. In as much how close to the likeness the painting/drawing is to the real life person. I always get distracted by that and quite often I'm left feeling quite cold emotionally. When you see a portrait like the one in the video, it makes you delve into the portrait with your own emotions and that's where interpretations of the person really comes to life. I'm not too sure if that makes any sense to you. I think, ultimately, I find drawings of famous people are maybe a little clichéd from an artistic point of view. Like I say, there are some magnificent ones out there, but I find attaching myself emotionally to them very difficult. I do hope more people discover your channel because they're hugely inspirational.
@@jeremywhite790 Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and for your encouraging feedback. I couldn’t agree more. I think how you said you can feel quite cold emotionally where the likeness becomes the centre of focus… That really nails it for me. And makes total sense. I can be very impressed with incredibly skilled portraits but they can just feel a little cold.
hi sarah, this is super cool, your stories are very motivating. keep sharing! i started putting my charcoal art on instagram recently, doing a recon mission i.e. advertising :)

Hi Sarah, I can relate to your words. I recently retired and picked up paper and charcoal > trying to get unblocked as we speak. And loving the proces. Keep it up. I will follow.
@@HarryHommes Thanks so much for this feedback. So appreciated! I hope you keep at it until the creativity flows freely. It’s such a joy when it starts breaking through.
Thank you for this. Our backgrounds are different, but the big picture is the same, no pun intended. I am 45yo and just got diagnosed this year. When I was young, in my teens, drawing gave me a feeling I couldn't describe, but I remember that it was the perfect way to focus and calm my mind. When drawing, I felt the confidence I could never replicate in my regular life. Because of my culture, I never even imagined that my issues were due to ADHD. Life happened to me, and it did not go well. I stopped drawing for many, many years. Fast forward to now and understanding my symptoms along with medication, and one day I sat down to draw, just out of boredom or some other feeling. Suddenly it comes rushing back....that feeling of calm. Exactly as you said "the noise in my head just stopped". I sent this video to my wife because she sometimes feels that I draw instead of spending time with her or just do it too much. I could never explain why I need it and hopefully your video will help. Of course my skill level is low and about 25 years out of practice. I don't know if I can ever be good enough to pursue art as anything more than a hobby, although I have been practicing and trying to get better and make up for my lack of natural talent. Hearing the things you said give me a bit of hope as well. Maybe with hard work, I can get good enough to sell my art. In any case, I am glad I found this. Good luck in everything!
@@MaximMelamed Thank you so much for this message! I can’t tell you how wonderful it is to feel understood completely. I so encourage you to pursue drawing and enjoy the calm it brings. And for SURE it’s never too late to catch up. I bet you are better than you think. We often have confidence issues with ADHD for all sorts of reasons but this might not apply to your talent. Try to see your work through other peoples eyes. You may be impressed with your skills. For me it’s keeping it simple that seems to be the way forward on the obstacle course of ADHD life!
@sarahwienbergdrawing I really hear this all the time, but unlike your family (which seems wonderful), I was never allowed to express myself or show emotion. This really hurt my confidence. I am working on it though. It helps to know I am not alone. Thanks again! 💜
@@MaximMelamed not being allowed to express emotion as a child is SUCH a difficult job to right. I can recommend looking at Gabor Maté. He is my favourite go to for healing advice (he also has been diagnosed with ADHD)
(You may already know about him)
@@sarahwienbergdrawing no I haven't heard of him. This is all pretty new to me but I'll definitely Check it out. And I agree completely about letting kids express themselves. Now that I have children of my own I'm trying hard not to repeat the mistakes of my parents.
what size is this? and it looks like most of your work is same size?
