Hey Rendad! Very good points about focusing on improving specific skills. Have made great progress on roll backstabs and backstep backstabs for example and I'm loving it. Thanks for the constructiveness and shouting out other fun invaders/challenge runners! Because honestly making an invader character is often a challenge run in and of itself. Shoutout to Furious Blade of Ansbach. Have a great Halloween!

Iced Estus is quite the amazing youtuber imo, they are astoundingly positive on their vids: it is obvious that they are having fun. Kinda wish I could find that fun with ER, never really did despite almost 800hrs in it (I damn well looked for my fun).

Love your vids as always Rendan! I'd also recommend Decker Danger on Twitch for some fun unique and a little less sweaty playstyle. I've been invading for a long time now and I still have days where I just get outplayed, outspaced and generally whipped up and down the lands between, but I've just as many days where it's the opposite. The amount of weapon combinations and different types of spell casting as well as all the armor choices will keep me around long after most everyone else is gone. Good luck on the baby Daddan.

Also idk about you but I feel like PlayStation activity has been extremely poor for me at almost all of midlevel. Several minute waits between fights all the way from RL 25-81. Everyone hanging out in the DLC perhaps? But I do worry that midlevel will no longer be the hub for invasions it once was. I guess all the more reason to await New Game.

This is why every build needs a fast projectile of some form. Storm blade or thunderbolt on a dagger can make the difference with a host who refuses to engage. If dude was more committed to evading he could've just kept on running and summoning blues endlessly.

blues also have no phantom finger so they cant teleport when the spawn is bad. which is often. i only hate those blues that seemingly come out of nowhere, from behind while i try to kill the host that had phantoms that i managed to kill :D

God, imagine a rpg made by Miyazaki's team that's focused on pvp. The journey and struggle through the story would be just to figure out how you want to fight against other players. Maybe they could even add matchmaking tiers for how well you do in the main game. So it at least tries to keep the vets from the new players at first. Although Darksould 3 was a much more competent pvp experience there were problems. I thought about it and pvp matchmaking based on how many bosses you've killed set into tiers of how much damage negation and the highest damaging weapon in your inventory. Then one of the reward drops for all pvp is always a single use item that makes you uninvadable until you die. Otherwise, your always open to invasions. Fighting a host and his phantom just to see a blue come in and chase you with darkhand then he gets sent home before you can kill him by the host, and he goes back to spawn to resummon his first friend with full health. This went on for me on one occasion for an hour! I mean it was actually a lot of fun at first but then I realized he had no incentive to actually play the game and was resigned to sending blues after me while he kept re-password summoning his friend. And the game just lets him do it! Who I'm sure was around double my lvl. To be honest my only real critique is that there is still password summoning. If it forced them to actually respec to the hosts lvl for the fight I wouldn't care, but a one hit bleed at base lvl feels like were the ones being picked on here.

From really only gives us games that excel at pve or pvp. Never both. Not that that's bad, but I do wonder if it's possible they can develop a game that can balance both

i don't recommend invasions. you get ganked and chased the whole time, get boss fog situations and you get constantly spamed

I've been saying for ages that Blues have had their entire purpose removed in ER, yeah. The only thing that disrespects blues more than reds is the game itself, and its tragic to watch a blue debase themselves for a host that treats them like an npc. I think the majority of us now have abandoned hope that ER will be an improvement on the PvP systems of previous games, but I ALSO think that a lot of the pessimism we see is actually fear in disguise. Fear that if no-one speaks out, then the next game will have an even more gutted, neglected PvP system, if it has one at all. A fear that we as a playerbase might not be catered for in the future. And I'd be lying if I said that I thought that fear was unjustified. You do make an excellent point about the nature of the negative energy around it though, in that a lot of it isn't directed into any real productive criticism or vision for the future. I'm hoping to see that change, despite losing hope for ER's PvP scene going forward. At the very least, we should be dreaming loudly about what might come next. Enjoyed the video, nice job. The value of solo invasions isn't for long time invaders but for the new guys. I think without solo invasions, the vast majority of the community will bounce off of invasions and never look back.

Ppl see a lot of signficance in things that just aren't that deep sometimes. I've been invading since 2014. Sometimes I turn blue ring on just to increase the likelihood that I will have random pvp while running the game. That's it. I don't give a shit about dynamics or incentives. I just love pvp and love engaging in it randomly. Since I can't randomly be invaded in ER (No, solo taunters tongue is NOT that; btw just a quick note: Stop your fucking solo taunters runs. As an invader, nothing pisses me off more than I'm invading and I come across some fucking in love with himself solo host who stops playing the game so he can have a little duel, or even worse, solo with blue on. If you're gonna use taunters, THEN SUMMON A PHANTOM. Anyway back to what I was saying. Yea, since I can't get randomly invaded while running pve unless I summon, at least I can randomly get whisked away for a little encounter from time to time. That's it. That's the whole motivation. I love pvp.

Truly a winner’s mentality

As a blue I hate it when the host flees and expects me to do all the work. Also, my preferred PvP is either equal odds or slightly stacked in the host's fact, maybe 2 on 1, or 2 on 2. And it's infuriating seeing the brainlet host sprint after the red into obvious enemy bait.

9:56 lmao this has literally happened to me as a blue. Kill invader,wave and goodbye lol. But your take is absolutely right. I enjoy playing as a blue more than a red and its just a shitty experience.

I'm glad I found this channel. Just the kind lf content I'm looking for. Discussion around the invasion mechanic. I wish the blues were simply invaders that solo invade players who previously invaded. Solves the lack of solo invasions and solves the issue of solo invading inexperienced hosts.

Congrats on being a father! I'm in the same boat and I keep thinking about the time I'll spare to invasions ahahaha. Solid points btw, people hoping they'll add covenants are in a deeper sleep than St. Trina sadly. We'll have to love ER for what it is and hope to God next game won't be open world lol

I’ve seen people throw shade at DS3 for being a smaller, less ambitious title than ER, and in some respects they are correct. But one thing they need to remember is ER wouldn’t be anything close to what it achieved if it hadn’t been for the systems, weapons, animations, and boss design fundamentals developed in DS3. ER is but one point along a lineage. And not only does DS3 deserve respect for laying its own foundation for ER, ER deserves respect for laying down a foundation for future From games. I am enjoying SOTE and it adds a big fun factor to ER PVP that had been fading for me. Even though the game will forever be lacking the elements I most crave, and I will never love it the same way I love DS3, I am still very happy with the forward steps it did take, and I am confident the next game will be better in the specific ways ER dropped the ball. I hope for greater build variety than DS3, more balance than ER, a shorter PvE campaign than ER but with more depth and complexity than DS3, and hell while we’re at it, give it the style factor of Bloodborne and the posture mechanics of Sekiro. That’s a stupid dream, but I do think the next game will be developed with these things in mind. If you look closely enough, every game From makes is in conversation with its predecessor, so ER will once again form a foundation for something even more developed in the future. Whether they stick the landing, we’ll have to wait and see. But I certainly don’t think ER will be Miyazaki’s final word on the subject. Thanks for the vid as always.
