Shortly before I started this channel, I had re-discovered the fun that I used to have just shooting at targets, and old cans. I am just a retired Army guy, but the retirement has a forensics background, and as I grow in producing these videos, the more I can get into basic ballistics experiments with these small, cheap, but yet surprisingly effective air rifles. On occasion I do a little shooting with .22 fire arms too.
Over 725 fps and 19 ft-lbs for new 3622 pcp from Crosman! Outpaces my Gamo Arrow pcp in speed
I got this 3622 on sale as a new (used) meaning it was new but the box was opened and the packaging was gone plus the owners manual. Since I have had success with the Crosman 362 pneumatic pump .22 air rifle, I knew this pcp version would be in my inventory as soon as I could swing it. It is about as low budget/no frills pcp as you’ll find, but I like it!

Red Ryder gets new after market spring kit and now gets over 350 fps. “It’s a Daisy!”
มุมมอง 57K28 วันที่ผ่านมา
No new versions of the Daisy Red Ryder this Christmas season at my local WalMart, so I decided to make my third annual Christmas Wish Red Ryder video on installing a new spring kit. Boy am I glad I did! Not only did I get a BB gun with more speed, I learned through experience a lot about mid century Daisy spring loaded BB guns. I had a comment asking for the link to Cobalt327. Crosman F4: Out-of-the-box review of a low budget break barrel air rifle

Blank slate for this one. I’m not a big break barrel fan, so I don’t have any feelings one way or the other. After doing the same systematic analysis on this one as I try to do on all the air guns I have, I was pleasantly surprised

This is Part 2. In Part 1 I disassembled the Daisy 880. In this one I do step by step of taking out the factory installed trigger group and replacing it with an aftermarket trigger group. The result: I lowered my trigger pull from 5.2 pounds to 1.1! Plus I changed out all the o rings and a couple other factory parts with Daisy replacement parts to give one of my favorite pumpers a proper tune u...

I finally decided it is the right time to fix something that wasn’t broke. I want to get my trigger pull down from 5.2 pounds to around 2 pounds, so that’s the catalyst. Problem is you have to pretty much take the whole thing apart. This is Part 1. If I did this in one segment it would be a problem for my old cell phone here due to it doesn’t do over 17 minutes very well, and this would press t...
Quick shooting my new .22 Gamo Arrow to puncture water paint filled cans and splatter paint for art
มุมมอง 1102 หลายเดือนก่อน
Lots of quick shooting in here from 25 yards to demonstrate the advantages of a pcp air rifle with a 10 pellet magazine. I had to shoot fast and accurate because my targets were cans with thinned out paint. If I took too long, the fluid would drain out. To show how fast you can shoot, and still stay relatively accurate I put in an unedited 10 shot session in about 2/3 of the way through. This t...

I put an 4 x 32 scope on my new Gamo Arrow .22 pcp air rifle and am satisfied it will give me the ability to shoot fairly tight shot groups at 25 yards (maxed distance for my back yard). In my first video on the Arrow I ran seven pellets at 10 shots apiece through the chronograph. Using those raw speeds I was able to get Standard Deviations on each type of pellets. Recently my brand new Daisy 753 went down. After I disassembled the air rifle, and replaced both o-rings, It still didn't work. Thanks, and good luck!
awesome video.👍 thanks for sharing.
I made a washer from some steel tubing, took apart my old spring and added the washer in it to tighten the spring. I got the same results for cheaper.
Good to have the right size of steel tubing just laying around.

I certainly appreciate you doing that...and making a comment.
I still want one.
My Daisy trigger pull is about 35 pounds lol
LOL! That would be problematic, as they say.
I have two red ryders, 1986 and 2000 versions. The quality is night and day. The newer one scatters shots all over, the older one hits the can most every time.
Absolutely no one cares
I've heard the same type of complaint from other commenters about quality control going down over the years....seems to be happening with a lot of items, not just air guns, on the market these days. Seems like "out-sourcing" that great "cost saver" loved by all the consultants in the 90's might of had a cost after all. Time will tell. Thanks for the comment!
@@brianwilke592 You think I care enough to read your comment?
Has anyone told you, you look like Lou Holtz with those glasses and hat on…
No, sir. Haven't been told that until now, but I'll take it, I used to like Lou Holtz. (Gave up most TV sports in 2020, and never went back).
Yep, u get more FPS, but u check the accuracy before and after--you’ll be disappointed. Better off to just change to the bored out air tube. You’ll still get over 300 fps, and won’t lose whatever accuracy it had.
I shot the original version quite a bit in the video I did last year. Same gun. I didn't really notice it was that accurate...average. After 5 yards the grouping scattered. With the upgrade it seemed to scatter less at the 7 yard mark. And it obliterated the Daisy shatter disk, which is cool. The ordinal version just kind of broke the shatter disk in three pieces. That's my experience; yours may be different, and thanks for pointing that out. The 300 fps might well be the "sweet spot."
Spent many hrs a few yrs ago with 3 “Walmart” Red Riders. Tested gun springs, air tubes, barrels mods, every available brand of BBs. Really enjoyed it. All accuracy ck were done off rests, 4x scope and 30ft indoors. Also used chronograph to ck velocities. I settled on approx 300fps with std spring and drilled out air tubes. I believe the heavy springs caused excessive barrel “jump/vibration”. The biggest dia BBs shot the best, these were “Marksman” brand BB. Amazon carried them at time. They were several thousand bigger and very concentric. At 30’ I could do 1 1/4” 5 shot groups --as with most shooting there’s always a flyer. I bought 100 4.5 mm Ball Bearings. These were perfectly round and exactly 0.177” dia. Shot some 3/4” groups with them. At 10 cents each -I didn’t do any plinking. Thanks for video. Enjoy the Daisies.
@@daisymae6561 Sounds like you did some extensive testing. Just curious, why not just get the 499B. It will give you super great shot groups. You'll have to pay more for the bb gun, but you are buying really good quality. I've got one, will do a video on it some day. I will try your bored out tube theory, with a 105, in several videos. (The main jist of those videos will be making entirely new stock...just in the idea phase now, but if I'm going to go to the effort to change stock, would like a little better performance too). Thanks for the excellent comments. I get comments from guys like you, and I take them to heart...always learning. Love to have you subscribe if you haven't already.
Thanks for the reply. I’m sure the 499 would be more accurate, like to know the bore dia. The std Red Rider runs around 0.178”. Most BBs runs 0.172+/- . That’s a lot of “slop” as it bounces down the tube. The “Marksman” match bb runs 0.177” and more concentric than others. The Crossman coppers are some of the worst I’ve measured. My opinion is bb fit to bore is the most important issue for accuracy. Plus concentricity. Started messing with Cobalts springs several yrs ago. Actually blew a shot tube thru the abutment with one. To me velocity is second to accuracy. If u don’t hit it-- I got into Airsoft guns to see how they could throw a plastic pellet so far and remain true and straight. ASU know steel BBs start sailing shortly after leaving the barrel. Well the secret is backspin achieved by a “hop up” device That creates backspin. . Amazing what that does for a plastic (6mm) bb that weighs less than the 4.5 mm steel bb. So I’ve tried to place rubber tubing in the top of the shot tubes, to create backspin. No luck, unlike the hopup device which engages the bb at launch, the rubber has to be placed farther down the tube. Haven’t found the magic yet. Need the service s of a toolmaker:). I’m working on another modification, trying to stiffen the shot tube. Still think the shock of the plunger hitting the abutment seal affects the accuracy. At 300 fps it takes a “long” time before the bb gets clear of the shot tube, lots of time to bounce the tube around. Nice talking to another Daisy addict. Stay in touch.
I like your drawing in the notebook. Thanks for the info (and warnings of mistakes so we don't need to)

Was watching and realized youre wearing a CC Hooks hat! Go Hooks! Im from Portland right across the bridge
Hey Big Luke! Yeah, I've got three Hooks hats. That is the coolest logo, the two hooks shaped like a C. Besides any team that plays at Whataburger Stadium has to be cool. I haven't been to a minor league game in years...last one for me was the Chattanooga Lookouts (another cool logo hat) back in their old stadium, the one featured in Alabama's song "Cheap Seats." My son lives down in Victoria, and I visit there a bit. I love the Texas Coastal Bend area. ( I did a video, not one of my more popular one about kayaking on the Matagorda Bay with my Super Drifter air rifle) I have gone to Corpus numerous times, usually hit Mustang Island there too, and Rockport, even thought about going to Whataburger Stadium just to say we've been there, but every time we were in town, they weren't. I subscribed to your channel. Thanks for watching and commenting!

You know. This is an open forum, and I was expressing an opinion.
Hey Brian I can’t even find a red rider That’s a nice upgrade.
Yeah, I noted the WalMart where I filmed the first part of the intro was all sold out last Monday. And they probably only had about 10 in there when I was filming that, which I think was mid Nov. I don't know why Daisy decided NOT to promote the Red Ryder this Christmas season. Makes no sense to me.
I have a 1937 buck jones real good condition.

Pretty neat. 👍🏻
I really wish they didn't cheap out with plastic receivers and pump handles. They felt much better with metal.
Agree 100 percent with you. I took this 880 apart in a later video (Whoops! This is an "old style" Daisy 880" I discovered this one has a flat head piston vs the indented heads they use now. The casting was better in my opinion. I ran chrony on it after I put it back together, and it runs consistently 10 to 20 fps than the contemporary Made in China Daisy's. That video is indexed in the description part above.
@brianwilke592 I knew they hanged the piston. I just wonder if the old style will fit the new? Shouldn't be anything one more pump wouldn't make up for, at least I wouldn't think. I enjoyed your new red rider video. I never knew how they came apart.
Pretty darn cool

they are "supposed" to shoot 350 fps out of the box but yeah noooooo🤣
Few of my air rifles do as advertised I have found. This Red Ryder chronied at 288 last year when I first reviewed it. Wasn't surprised. They can defend that by saying "with alloy pellets" or "under ideal conditions." Thanks for commenting!
