    Let me be pedantic for a second: the LXX Bible (Septuagint, the version of the Seventy) is not "a Greek Bible" it's the (Hebrew or OT) Bible in Greek. Its translation happened in Alexandria of Egypt, because its large Jewish population ha lived there for generations and they spoke better Greek than Hebrew (as many sons and daughters of immigrants always tend to do). It is actually the version most quoted in the NT, which is all in Greek. Its list of books (Canon) predates the shorter Hebrew list (Tanakh, an acronym: Torah, Navi'im, Ketubim = Law, Prophets, Writings) which was defined for good long after the Septuagint, possibly even after the NT list.

    I enjoyed this. It's great that a Protestant like you is setting the record straight, as against the post 1800 narrative that Catholics 'added' books to the Bible. Given, I also often wonder why Protestants are averse to the deuterocanonical books, given that, though Luther placed them in a separate category all their own, he nevertheless considered them acceptable reading (can't recall his exact words). Finally, I would note that Luther's reclassification of the books did do some harm and their subsequent removal by the Bible society only solidified that damage, in which the deuterocanonical books are viewed with suspicion. In fact, I have noticed that Protestants are more ready to read such apocryphal works as the book of Enoch than any of the deuterocanonical books, which they consider Catholic.

    • @gclmedia
      @gclmedia 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you for not only watching but sharing your thoughts, and I’m glad you enjoyed the video! I find it crucial to address misconceptions, especially the idea that Catholics “added” books to the Bible-this is a nonsensical post-1800 narrative that overlooks the presence of these books in the Septuagint long before the formal establishment of the Catholic Church not to mention the 16th Century Protestant movement. You’re absolutely right about Luther. He never rejected the deuterocanonical books; instead, he placed them in a separate section because he found value in them. In his preface, he wrote, “these books are not held equal to the Sacred Scriptures and yet are useful and good to read.” His intention was to distinguish them from the Hebrew Scriptures, not to discard them. Unfortunately, the decision by the Bible societies in the 19th century to remove these books entirely solidified a more dismissive attitude that was never Luther’s original intent. It is indeed ironic, as you noted, that some of my fellow Protestants today seem more inclined to read works like the Book of Enoch than the deuterocanonical books, why they view with Apocrypha with suspicion baffles me when the very same books are included in the Eastern Orthodox Bible as well. It is bigatry at its finest to rejected something based soley upon its association with Catholicism. This reflects a lack of awareness about our own historical roots in Jewish, early Christian, and Catholic traditions respectively. Understanding this context can help us approach these texts with a more balanced perspective and appreciate its nuance.

    Are you familiar with Cyril of Jerusalem’s cannon ? Probably one of the more authoritative voices about the canon in church history

    • @gclmedia
      @gclmedia 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Blessings! Yes, I'm familiar with Cyril's Catechetical Lectures. In Lecture 4, Cyril doesn’t go into detail about the Deuterocanonical books (the Apocrypha). Instead, he mainly focuses on the books that closely match the Hebrew Scriptures. He highlights what we now call the "Protocanonical" books-those accepted in the Hebrew Bible and later by Protestant traditions. However, not all church fathers saw it this way. Before Cyril, Origen (c. 185-254 AD) had a broader approach, using the Apocryphal books for teaching. Likewise, Irenaeus (c. 130-202 AD) referenced Deuterocanonical, showing they were part of early Christian practice. On the other hand, after Cyril, (c. 296-373 AD) did take a more conservative stance in his Festal Letter 39, leaving out the Apocryphal books from his official list, though he still saw them as valuable reading. Jerome (c. 347-420 AD), who translated the Latin Vulgate, leaned toward the Hebrew canon, too. He included the Deuterocanonical books in the Vulgate but had reservations about using them for doctrine.

    Im not learned enough to determine what books should and shouldn't be in the bible as I leave that for more educated men to make that determination for me however with that being said, as a Protestant, I can say this, the Roman Catholic Church does *not* represent the Lord and has not in a long long time and despite what many Catholics may think it is not the Church that Christ founded. How could it be? It was run by the Romans with them incorporating their pagan beliefs into Catholic Christianity as well as appointing the Popes and leaders to rule the Church. All the disciples of Christ were essentially executed in the most gruemsome way and the one that survived and was tossed into exile because the Lord prevented him from being boiled alive by the Romans if the stories are true. So they're not exactly in the position to set up the Church of Christ and certainly the other lesser known followers of early Christainity at the time would have been trying to stay one step ahead of the Roman and Jewish authorities at the time I would imagine so setting up an infastructure and a foundation during that time peroid would have been shaky at best until Rome stepped in with the Roman Catholic Church. We need to keep in mind of the financial corruption, the Jesuit war against Protestants, the "children" issue and priests, the ":unification" of the major religions under Francis and so on that the Catholic Church is involved in. All of these activities and more illustrate that they are doing everything that they can to demonstrate that they follow another and not the Almighty. Which leads me to conclude that for there to be any unification of the Christian faith, a new Church will need to be created as there is no way Protestants today would return back to the Catholic Church short of Jesus himself telling us to do so. . As for the Jews and Muslims. Dr. Jay Smith does an excellent job dismantling Islam and exposing it for what it is, 100% a fraud so we can ignore what's in the Quran. I encourage you to go check him out here on YT. As for the Jews, they committed a crime against the Lord and to this day still have not made attointment for it but deny the Lord's gift of salvation by doing everything that they can to pretend that it didn't happen. And Im being nice by ignoring the history in which the Jews would betray Christians to the Muslims in the middle to "dark ages" or how Jews and Christians really are at odds with one another much like how Jews and Muslims are at odds with one another. So what does all of this have to do with your video? As I stated, in order for the Christian faith to unite, a new Church must be created and it must include all of the books that we can verify and prove that aren't pseudo and go from there. If we are to survive against the forces of the Evil One then Christianity must be united and informed instead of divided and splintered as it is today. Folks forget that in the End Days, Chrisitans are hunted down and executed. We always have been hunted down but itll get worst so again, a united Christainity is needed to weather that storm and that comes from having the correct bible and books in place for it to prosper. Just my thoughts on the topic as this was something I wrestled with when looking to purchase a bible, which version. Ideally I think Geneva would be the best but difficult to obtain and not the easiest to understand which has me thinking that a modern day bible without the woke propaganda and marxist nonsense in it with the correct books in it is what's needed. No idea if that exists today or not - perhaps a topic for a future video for you to consider.

    • @gclmedia
      @gclmedia 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I appreciate your thoughts, and I’d like to build on some points. In my video, I highlighted that there always has been, and likely always will be, a difference of opinion regarding which books should be considered part of the biblical canon. This was evident even in the Sanhedrin, where the two factions-the Pharisees and Sadducees-held different views on the accepted scriptures. Yet, despite these differences, there was a level of coexistence and unity. Today, similar debates continue, not only over which books should be included but even down to individual verses. This is one reason why the Bible has undergone various revisions over the centuries, especially as early manuscripts are discovered. With each new manuscript, there are verses that some include while others exclude. This ongoing process of examination and adjustment shows that the effort to understand and preserve the original texts remains active, even if it sometimes leads to differing conclusions. When it comes to the Catholic Church or any other denomination, historical challenges and controversies don't erase the foundational structure established by the Apostles. Early Christianity wasn’t just a loose movement; there was a deliberate effort to establish leadership and community continuity that persisted even through intense persecution. The claim of pagan influence in Catholicism is often extremely overstated. While some cultural elements were reinterpreted with a Christian understanding, the core doctrines remained true and consistent with early Christian teachings. Instead of trying to create a new church to achieve unity, the focus should be on dialogue and understanding the shared history of different traditions. As for the Bible, while debates over which books or verses should be included will persist, the key is approaching the Scriptures thoughtfully, recognizing that no single translation can perfectly meet everyone’s individual criteria. Christianity’s diversity has always existed, and unity doesn’t require starting from scratch but rather embracing a shared journey, much like the coexistence seen in the Sanhedrin.

    First of all the name God gave Moses is not "I am" but "I will be". any living being can say 'I am' but only God can say "I will be". So if you are going to quote Hebrew, you should know what tense is being used in the passage you are actually quoting, and in this case it is in the future and not the present. This way you will not look like an idiot.

Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly.' (KJV) The 'Feast of Dedication' is another name for Hanukkah. Papias suggests that Matthew compiled a list of sayings of Jesus in the "Hebrew dialect". Which could be Hebrew or Aramiac, hopefully we find that document someday. It could even be the mysterious Q document scholars have suggested. But it won't be the same "Gospel of Matthew" we have today, which uses Mark as its primary source and was certainly not written by Matthew.

Interpretation differences is cool. The churches legal actions on the other hand could be in the longest RICO case might be why people have distrust. The Apocrypha change wouldn't be a problem cause people look into history of religions and find the similarities. I mean Ethiopian like the religion.)
