Just finish watch another music clip. Chinese opera. Lijun & I think Xiao? It was a lovely tune. So far, my wake up calls have been Dynamic (Tangyi); Funny (Taiwan amateur opera); Lyrical (Yue opera). Nice start to the day. The storm has calm down for today, so will go & pay a bill. Tomorrow storm resumes 🌀...

@@小小探花 No such thing as Englishman or Englishwoman here....that only exists in Victorian novels. An imagined cultural construct. Yes, only come across Chinese opera. And you should thank Lijun's troupe for creating a huge online interest of their innovative New Dragon Inn opera. From there, I explored other styles. Due to lack of language, obtained details from some English subtitles, fan comments, if get name of character or opera....look up the story background. Watch different troupes (old films included) adaptations, gradually some of the stories. It's not a lot of info but an interest in music, regardless of culture an/or language, that drives the need to know more. So that I can appreciate the performance better. It was thru watching various covers of John Denver's Country Roads that led me to Japanese anime version Whispers of the heart....& to Sukiyaki, Lullaby of Taneka (beautiful tune). That was the intro to S.E. Asian music & entertainment. Still much to explore. I've learnt to sing like a parrot - 3 songs in Spanish & 1 in Japanese (Sukiyaki). But don't ask me to sing Chinese opera!

I studied art history & also ancient middle East, so I research this music genre the same way. Chinese opera is different from Western. It doesn't have much stage props, music is different, the costumes & make up is amazing, action, gestures, use of fans etc. It's fascinating. There are many Westerners interested. I saw a clip where Jun An was showing Americans how to do some opera movements. So, don't be surprised. Music, cultural arts is a universal expression.... accessible to all ...if one has an open mind & heart.

@McChicken73 Oh no. That's why I've made some sobering comments. In work experiences had to deal with health & safety in projects I coordinated. This is down to director or whoever. They can over-rule performers' ideas...if deemed risky. It's why films have professional stand-ins etc. It's those damn high soles the performers wear....not suitable for stairs. Hope she's okay....and esp won't be a long-term chronic mobility issue! 🤕

@@Jamie-v1e5n bro rmb the “funeral chant” we talked ab a few days ago and you asked me ab the name of the story? This new opera show based exactly on the same novel (Dream of the Red Chamber). Both Jun Jun and Yun xiao gonna play the exact same roles as they were in the Funeral chant! Basically it’s like Funeral Chant but in max pro version 😂

Slight delay in replying to u. Was in middle of online sudoku competition. Had to re-enforce my lead before take a break 2 reply. Do word & number games to give my brain some exercise! And if there's competition to get to top of leaderboard it's much more interesting! But can't have breaks otherwise others catch up. Yes, nothing wrong to incl. humour. I like to do jokes in comments .... but also serious ones. Depends on context & clip. Just think how another elsewhere might see it. If difficult to imagine ask someone wat they think. @小小探花 Yes, tragic ending is similar. The 'male' dies 1st. Heart broke. Then 'female' willingly gives up this life....to follow where her love will go. It reminds of - 'Where you go, I will go [too]' (Bible: Ruth Ch.1, v.16). Tho this was said by a young widow to her mother in-law, it speaks for all deep relationships. Regardless of the nature of the love. Love is love.

Has it only been 1 week since I came upon this video clip? Have been travelling on a random & fast travel trip around different sites. Besides the opera, have seen a bit of Peking, Kunqu, Taiwanese... operas. Watched many different opera extracts - some professionally filmed, others by shaky fone cameras. Famous professional troupes to local amateur ones. Some had English subtitles (👏), some not even know the title....I didn't know. Have provided photography advice, made up my own translation dialogue as a joke! Initially, 1 uploader took my funny translations....seriously. Had to explain, it's only (Western) humour. The uploadeder now got used to me. They only have a small number of views of their coverage of local troupes. And to think this recent wonderful journey started from my 1st online comment... on a US uploader's cover version of John Denver's Country Roads. Looked at several cover versions, which included Japanese anime cover version. Tho shocked to find the Japanese version lyrics has complete opposite meaning! That S.E.Asian music intro... led to the many clips popping up of the New Dragon Inn by fans. In just few weeks, have seen much.

It's been a great & varied trip. But maybe I need to take a break away from this genre....at least a wk. Otherwise, it's like stumbling across somebody's banquet & eat too many samples of food. Can I overeat. Need to digest & come back, but eat more slowly next time. Hope you are well. Here, I'm thankful yesterday the snow & in ice started to thaw. Today all gone.... for now. At least we are not suffering like the wildfires of California. G'nite

If 'foreigners' is referring to me, I'm unsure what is my "fault"? I'm confused. All I know is there seemed suddenly to be a problem between you & a follower of ur video....which I didn't know anything about. Lol, my words shouldn't dazzle u. They're really only average. I use translation button to read ur words. Sometimes it works, or translation bit confusing....or no translation. I only wanted to show appreciation of an unusual viewpoint of a performance i.e. from backstage. I have no feelings of ill-will towards u or anyone. I just want to explore and enjoy this interesting genre...Chinese opera. Last few days, I've been learning a bit of history, opera gestures, use of hands, use of mime etc. All helps to understand the drama. Watched some full length opera dramas, contemporary & old (eg ling Bo - old videos)....it used lot of my monthly data. Don't often watch whole length performances, but wanted to know the stories. So, when I watch something without Eng translation, I know the story already & just enjoy the music & actions. It's good ur communication with other person is ok. It happens like that, friends/family.... up & down. It's life. Had snowfall 3rd time. Side streets icy. Very low temperatures. Late afternoon here, he's it's bedtime soon where u are. Anyway, gnite

Someone here ask if this performance the "Great Reconcilation". Though I don't read understand Chinese, I used translation to discover this question. After looking at similar presentations of this scene, but usually a front view - can say this is probably a scene from the "Butterfly Lovers". You can see that the 'female' player, Yun Xiao, is also wearing male clothing. In Butterfly opera, as you may know, the female lead is pretending to be a male to enable her to study. Along the way, she will meet and fall in love with a male scholar.

Sorry, when I replied a few minutes ago, I may have misunderstood your Reconciliation question. I don't know enough of Yue opera to maybe think you are probably asking about a new and future stage production. Sorry again 🇬🇧
