I'm just a guy with many interests that likes to share information I have learned. I'm not a professional by any means. I enjoy researching, learning and doing. My interests include automobiles, retro computing and learning electronics. You may find videos of each of my adventures in discovery. I hope what I do helps others in some way.
2013 Malibu Steering Gear Replacement : Part 1 The Removal
This adventure is removing the steering gear from my 2013 Malibu. This took about 2.5 hours to complete. I thought I had a damaged steering gear. Spoiler Alert...I didn't.
This removal should be the same for any 2013-2016 Malibu

2013-2016 Chevrolet Malibu Headlight Assembly Replacement
Having same problem and it makes the rpm get stuck above the 2 until it says transmission overheating... does the canister fix all that?
Haha it’s a miracle just realized it’s -40 in my car today
I purchased AC Delco Part 12690512 and installed it. However, the original part that came off the car was 12610560. The parts look alike. I hope they are actually supposed to be interchangeable. I will wait to see if the "permanent code" PO496 actually clears after driving for awhile. About a week later, after a few short trips the "permanent" "Check Engine Light" went out. I guess the problem is solved. My thanks to you for the great video!!!! About a week after my "check engine" light went out a warning came up on my dash that the fuel filler cap should be tightened but when I checked the cap was as tight as it can be. I wonder if this happened because the part that I used was slightly different from the original part - although it looked the same.
Great video, your camera angles are a lot better than the other videos I watched and you get right into the job while explaining it well. Thanks.
Your video was straight to the point, you gave a part number and you didn’t give any excessive explanation about anything. You helped me save money by doing this at home instead of taking it in. Thank you, man!
Firestone just told me $298 to fix this issue. Ha....headed to auto zone in a few minutes. Ty for the vid and your service
Explanation?
Im a general contractor and I just installed a 10ap in a detached garage I built for a client. The instructions sucked! Haha but we made it through it!
i appreciate you bro i needed a walkthrough before i did it🫡
Thanks a lot bro. This helped tremendously!
Happy to have helped you out.
Ima try this but mines read decent temperature just my a/c going in out and i tested everything else but this 🤞🏾
What tool is that?
It's an Autel MaxiCOM MK808BT PRO Scanner:
Good video. Would be nice to show how to manually close the vent solenoid
Thank you Mr.Thomas Lavery for your very helpful video!!!!!!!
I broke the 10mm bolt in the bracket part how can I fix
That bolt is not a 9mm....its a 10mm
Awesome video, so much faster than pulling the bumper cover, the tip at the end saved some swear jar money as well!
Damn I wish I saw this video first. I just broke the damn plastic piece off the hose
Mine was a 10mm socket on my 2015 Impala. Otherwise perfect instructions, problem solved.
Awesome video. Perfect
Wow' you saved me time and costs, Chevrolet wanted to charge a large amount to replace this $59 part. Thanks
Thank you for the excellent video. I replaced the valve per the instructions and the car started right up at the gas station whereas before it would struggle to start after filling up with gas. However now the car is idling very rough. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks my friend has the outer plastic cracked on 2016 Malibu and just wanted to replace it instead of replacing the whole headlight but the price is about the same
Glad I looked this up and found your video dealer just quoted my girl 400$ to replace this thing time to bust out my tools 🫡
Perfect video. From setup to replace to cleanup, I was able to get this done in 30 minutes. Thank you!
My 08 is doing this , good quick test , I have an altel as well they are key for this
I'm glad i watched ur video cuz i woulda broke dat hose with the clip, filling up with gas would make me have a heart attack
I'm back here again for a refresher. I'm having this same issue again. Check engine light came back with same codes and symptoms. About to start working on it. Going to insoect the area to see if i did something wrong the first time. Either that or the part itself was bad. I'm still going to research why and how these valves end up failing.
Lifesaver thank you
I’ve replaced this twice already, by chance anyone run into this issue? If so what would be the next step to figure out the issue. After I replace the part, the idel after gas stops up until it defects again
Is there a way to clear the code after replacing the Valve, if we don't have the diagnostic machine?
Disconnecting the battery clears all problem codes, which can turn off the light. However, if the issue that caused the light is not fixed, the light may come back on after a few drive cycles.
I have a 2017 FWD and a noise is coming from what sounds like behind the front right tire and it only kicks in once i get to about 16mph. It gets very quiet like it isn’t there when i turn right but when i turn left you can hear it. Its like a boat engine in a way.
Hi I just did the change to my car and the check engine light is still on, is there something I’m supposed to do so it gets cut off
I had to clear the codes with that little code reader. If you don't have one, you can go to an auto parts store to borrow a unit in the parking lot to clear it. I know Auto Zone does that.
@@JustLearningbyDoingis that the only option, I just came from AutoZone and they don’t reset codes
@@JustLearningbyDoingI just disconnected the battery for a few minutes then plugged it back in and that worked. by the way thanks for your help, the vid helped out tremendously
That works, too! Glad it helped. Have a good one.
1 run through your video and you saved me quite a bit of $$$$ and time!! Thank you so much! My dad was impressed!
Glad it worked for you. Thanks for commenting.
Thanks bro 🤝
Thank you
Thanks for your help
My pleasure
Sir!!! With your guidance I was able to replace mine today! You made it easy and I felt confident while doing it. As a girl whose dad was my mechanic and he is now passed, I didn't want to take it in so I think he would be very proud of me! Thanks for your help and making this video🙏🏾
Thank you so much for the kind words. I'm sure your father is very proud of you! I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. Have a great day.
My kinda woman! Sorry about your dad but I know he's proud.
how does that break spring go off that brake i cant seem to find out where it goes
Thank you for this video! I would love to know your opinion on a question I have regarding my 2012 Chevy Impala. The body shop I ended up going to, wish I had seen this video first ;) they repaired the ambient temp sensor but noted also I may have a faulty Temperature Control Head. As of today, 1/2/24, my windows, front/rear/sides all fog up if the temperature falls below 32° and when I try to run the defrost using the A/C button, it flashes and doesn’t turn on. Above 32° the A/C button will come on and allow for windows to defrost. Before having them do the work, the inside of my car windows were actually getting frosted over almost like I needed to scrape the inside of my windows. And it wouldn’t defrost and same thing happened where the A/C button wouldn’t work. So, although I don’t have any frost to scrape on the inside of my windows anymore, they are still fogging up if lower than 32° outside. I don’t know much about the temperature control head and its function. Wanted to know if you had anything to offer on this. Thanks so much!
Thanks for the video I’m getting ready to swap mines
Good luck. Fairly straight forward job.
Going to change this part on the wifey car soon. Thanks for the walkthrough
Hope it goes well for you.

Yeahhhh just snapped mine off
Snapped mine off how you Took the broken piece from the inside.:/?
I have the same wd40 cans and never knew you could spray without extending the red straw
Great instructional video. My purge valve was replaced by the dealership about a year ago and the check engine light is back on with symptoms similar to yours. I was told that they should have replaced the canister by the gas tank. Have you heard that? My car hesitates to start immediately after I get gas and it has even stalled at red lights. It also idles rough at times. Have you heard that it's typical to replace the purge valve and the vapor canister?
The canister vent valve can fail both closed and open. If it fails open, you will get an evap leak code. If it fails closed, you may damage your fuel tank by it collapsing, because it continuously pulls a vacuum on your tank. I've not had to replace the canister itself, though.
@@JustLearningbyDoing I think I did get a leak code but does that mean that I have another bad purge valve?
@Snypersystem186 it could be any number of leaks in the system. The best way to find it would be to use a smoke machine. That may require a shop to do that. You could also buy one or make your own. There are plenty of videos showing that type of check. Good luck.
@@JustLearningbyDoing thanks
Good video help out a lot, thanks ! 👍🏿
You're welcome!
Thank you for the video it helps me allot when I change my trans oil. more information vent cap is a 11/16 wrench,1/4 allen wrench for the plug, 3/8 bolt for oil filter cover.
