Cube Touring Hybrid 500 Review

Quick look at my new e-bike. Note the motor is the Bosch Activeline Plus (I forget to say the 'Plus' in the video). I also forgot to say that the Touring frame comes in three models - this one (with traditional crossbar), a trapezium frame (angled and lower crossbar) and a step-thru (no crossbar). Cheers,
I commented on your other video and I just wanted to add that my touring bike is 11 speed with 500 W hour battery And it certainly goes up steep hills
Great Bike, I’ve got mine for 20 mile round commute. Just hope all goes well. Start using it beginning of October. My one is a 500 W hour battery bike now cost £2400 which I paid for so long live the Bike purchased Friday, the 19th of September 24
Great Bike, I’ve got mine for 20 mile round commute. Just hope all goes well. Start using it beginning of October.
Great job .Thank you .
Would be interesting to get a new review (5 year review). Still using this bike? If yes, then the pro’s and cons after all this time. If no, still cycling? Upgrade? Why change bikes/quit? I have recently restarted commuting by bike, only now on an e-bike and a long-term experience/review would be interesting.
Sure - I just used it all through the winter to commute 16 miles a day to work. Got 15,000 km on it now. One puncture in all that time and still as solid as a rock. I have it serviced regularly though and heavy use tends to stretch the chain. Otherwise nothing has needed doing to it.
What framesize? How tall are u?
Read the comments. He's 5'9 and it's a 54cm frame size.
Strictly speaking, you should not cycle beyond the tarmac section towards Lymm. Where the tarmac ends there is a no cycling sign, go right at the sign, through the woods or along the path that crosses the field, turn left on the old railway track (TPT) to Lymm.
Yep - I discovered the link to the car park and start of the cycle path on my next trip. It does involve some road though, so if you had young kids with you you might be safer on the canal - although it is slow going.
Thanks for Sharing... Another Mancunian trying to Get One...👌🏿👍🏿
U do more talking less cycling. Get in with the cycling ur boring us to death
Thank you for this video, I’m looking at purchasing my first bike for a 14 mile round trip commute and I found your video very helpful. I enjoyed your presentation and especially liked your use of the words “innocuous” and “precipitous”. Makes a refreshing change to hear the English language used properly. Thanks again.
this might exist already but as the majority of lights can be charged or run via usb, do any bikes offer a power bank feature for phones, and accessories etc?
Yes - the display unit has a USB out port for charging anything you want. I would expect that most electric bikes have a similar set up. Charging stuff like phones and lights is trivial compared to battery capacity obviously.
@@andymcnish thanks, still really like this bike revisiting the video... :)
Hi Andy, thank you for posting this I'm literally looking at getting the same bike for roughly the same commute you do (Manchester to Stockport). Couple of questions: 1. Which shop did you get this bike from? - Edit: skip this one, just saw UK Bikes Depot Halifax in a comment below. 2. Do you have some routes to recommend between Stockport and Didsbury? Thank you for your time 😊
Great video Andy, thank you. Am awaiting delivery and can’t wait.
How often do you replace the chain and cassette? I have the same bike but I do turbo mostly.
I have the older cube Touring pro, with the Bosch performance cx motor. I think that with the motor cutting out at 15.5mph ( with UK law compliant software version) I don't think the less efficient motor matters to me as I'm riding at 17mph on the flat, so the range doesn't go down when I'm doing that.
I farted
Decided to unsubscribe from your channel as it appears you don’t reply to people’s comments cheers shaneweightman uk 🇬🇧
Do you reply to messages ?
It seems all battery’s lithium’s that is discharge like this on electric bikes from my experience, Andy , I don’t no why but it is a fact great review , I have a Vulcan electric bike that I will review on my small TH-cam channel soon thanks Shane uk 🇬🇧
Some breathtaking scenery
Thanks for the informative video , I have a Carrara Vulcan mk2=, couldn’t stretch my finances enough to buy the cube you have, as I think it’s a better bike, I have had 2 heart attacks and a blocked heart valve and stent fitted and on meds for life , so my next step is a chest sensor to combine with strava , I also have a newish TH-cam channel called Motorcycles And Things that I will review my bike on thanks Shane
Watched a few of your vids now , may I enquire what camera your using to record them please and editing software , thanks shaneweightman uk 🇬🇧
What heart , strap or piece of equipment are you using please to monitor your heart rate, ? And are you connecting to the strava app to monitor,, I’ve bought a e bike for moderate exercise as I had a blocked heart valve 4 yrs ago and had a stent fitted and on meds for life , beta blockers etc , so have to keep my eye on my heart beat , many thanks Shane uk 🇬🇧
I regularly go around Sale water park and Chorlton Marina and the little stretch of the Mersey as well as Chorlton Ees. I usually stop at Jacksons boat to watch the Parakeets and have a quick drink. I`ll try adding this to my regular ride in the next day or so. Thanks a lot.
Thanks Andy
I hope there's going to be a day where the bike can sync with your smartwatch and keep an eye on your heart rate automatically changing the assisting power. E-bikes seem to be one of few if not the only way you can keep exercising throughout your life. Thank you for the review, it was very useful.
I think they'd be legally liable in some way.
really useful review, thank you very much for this.
I have the Merida Espresso E300Q, almost the same bike. These things are amazing....hill's just disappear and loading them up is no longer an issue.
Are the front forks lockable?
Yes. I tend not to bother but you can lock them out.
I really have to check my e-bike usage through the last year, cause i've driven roughly 7000 km in 10 month :-(!
A very informative video on such a beautiful day. Was wondering at the beginning why you would even try it on your bike, with such rough terrain. But it's a good way of showing it can be done and enjoyed on different types of bicycle. Well done.
Thank you. A very informative review, nice one.
Andy, great coverage, but have to ask : did you have the camera swinging on a piece of rope. I'm sat in my lounge feeling sick watching the view going from left to right and back again, and again. Lymm in motion is not great videography.
Andy, that's why the battery scale is bigger at the top. View it as the area of the chunks not the height. The total area of the top two bars is about 50% of the total area of all 5 bars i.e. 50% charge.
Isn't Iridium just the colour of the frame?
A good ‘no nonsense’ review. Thanks 👍
hi andy i got my cube kathmandu one 500watt cx generation 4 bike---it is the same as youre bike design its fantastic, the range seems to go up as youre riding it 80mile range easily with the 500watt battery
Gorgeous bike, gorgeous accent.... wow, just wow.
Hi What is the exact model that you have? I’m looking at present to possibly purchase a CUBE KATHMANDU HYBRID ONE 625 EE ?
Did you get it? Im thinking of the KATHMANDU too. How's the powerline cx
i am selling my volt pulse bike as i am getting the kathmandu 500 with the bosch motor---its being sold for 700 pounds--meaburnwilliam007007@gmail.com
Thanks a very detailed review.
very informative review! thanks a million!
Hi Andy. What carrier is that with you phone in? Cheers, Stu.
hi there any idea if the Cube Kathmandu Pro 500 E-Bike are any good and will they do good range
www.cube.eu/en/2020/e-bikes/tour/kathmandu-hybrid/cube-kathmandu-hybrid-pro-500-blacknwhite-2020/ Yes - they have the next Gen Performance motors in which are zero-resist. They will be like my bike only with a punchier motor, an extra gear and a proper downtube battery. very nice piece of kit. As I only use the motor when my heart rate gets over 150 or the surface is really bad, range anxiety isn't really a thing for me. It will get up most any hill in Eco if you're happy not to fly up it, and my real world range is 100km +
@@andymcnish thank you for info i am trying to buy one of youres off ebay no look as i have only got 1,100 pounds
@@andymcnish hi andy---i have bought the kathmandu hybrid one 500 today,i have now got to sell my volt pulse bike, i will sell it for 600 pounds on gumtree and see how it goes, the reason for getting the cube bike is because of the zero resist and being able to ride it without peddle assist
the bike is what i am after---i am selling a kyota kharma full carbon road bike very fast--everything spot on--good tyres--and i am selling a carrera crossfire electric bike--meaburnwilliam007007@gmail.com
How fast in MPH?
Limited to 16mph (25km/h) in EU. You can hack this motor if you want but I don't.
Hello Andy, Thank you for your both reviews and extra comments under the videos. Can you tell about your height and the frame size you have chosen? Was it a good choice? Are you comfortable? Cheers.
Yes. I'm 5 foot 9", quite heavy (90-100kg), have quite short legs (29") and have the 54" cross frame. It's an extremely comfortable bike to ride - high upright riding position, comfy seat and very smooth gears. If I was a little older or had worse balance/flexibility I might pick the trapezoid or step thru frame instead - but I like the semi-integrated battery and room for bottle cage set up on this one. If you are going to fall off though, the others would be safer to do it from! I think 5'8" with 28" legs is probably the smallest you could be and comfortably ride the 54" cross frame one - anything smaller and you'd probably need to go down a frame size. I imagine the 54" would be good up to 6 foot or so but if you have very long legs YMMV. You should try the frames out if you can of course.
@@andymcnish thanks Andy. I am 175cm, it is about 5f9" I guess, I was thinking about to buy 54cm frame. i have to buy online as none of the local shops have Hybrid One Touring One in stock.
Hi Andy! Do you shoot in 4K?
Love my Crane bell and, Ergon GP3 grips. I have 2018 Cube Cross Hybrid Pro, love it. I'm on my second motor as the gears in my original motor went bad. Just in warranty and got another 24 months warranty on the new motor. I'd done 2500 miles before the motor went bad. I have Scwalbe Marathon GT 365's and haven't had a puncture since fitting them. I'm 59 years old and hadn't ridden a bike since I was 15. I've lost two stone in two years and gone from a 44" waist to 36" waist.
Good to hear. Was your motor the Performance CX then or the old Gen Activeline?
Gen 3 performance CX
@@J0nny61 Yep - those are known to fail quite often after the first year. It's the internal gearings and non-zero resist that make them more prone to wear I think. Not aware of any such issues on the 3rd Gen Active Line Plus this one has - and would expect the 4th Gen zero resist Performance motors that came out for 2020 not to have that problem either.
