Bribie Camp Cruise - Camp oven Roast and Classic Regatta 2024
2 boats sailing in company on Pumicestone passage Bribie Island, we launched at Sylvian beach and sail to Toorbul for lunch then to the camp site at Mission point and cook a camp oven roast dinner on the fire.
Day 2. We set off to Donnybrook for morning tea and to pick up more firewood, then set off to Lime pocket camp 6 for lunch where we encounter white bellied sea eagles and a large Goanna, back at camp I get the fire going and prepare a stew with the left over roast, Yum!
Day 3. Friday with incoming tide and southerly wind made it a slow and hard slog with lots of tacking to sail to Pacific Harbour marina I arrived at around 13.15, I lost sight of Alex in his Bolger Bobcat some time beforehand and he arrived 14.30. This marks the start of Bribie Classic boat regatta Friday evening is the meet & greet at a local venue, then some of us return to the marina sleep on board.
Day 4. Saturday, more boats arrive and we sail to Toorbul to display the boats in the small bay by the boat ramp where there are markets and a free lunch for skippers and crew entered in the regatta, after lunch all boats head for the marina again where the gates are opened for public viewing, and there are mor market stalls and displays, vintage cars and boats on trailers and a boat building display.
Day 5. Sunday, all boats congregate in the main channel for the grand parade of boats and head towards Sylvian beach, The main event peoples choice award, raffle prize is drawn, market stalls dragon boat demonstration, rowing demonstration, put put drive by and a sailing course for demonstration. all makes a great day out.

Wivenhoe Dam 24th October 2021 Scruffie 16 & Shimmy 12
I'm considering buying a Scruffie 16. Can I ask what you think of the sailing ability of the boat? It has a wonderful cockpit and nice short draft, but I'm just not sure about how well it sails. Are you satisfied with it? Any advice you can give would be appreciated.
@duncan18663 for my first boat, it's been brilliant. Stable easy to handle and roomy, low maintenance. The only downside is the up wind sailing ability, so an outboard is a must in some situations, eg, against wind and tide.
@@Dentsln65 thanks for the info. It is a beautiful boat - I love the big open cockpit and the shallow draft. Would you feel confident sailing it in the north of Moreton Bay? I saw you went out to Green Island once but it looked pretty hectic.
I haven't had the opportunity yet, but it would handle it well.
@ thanks - one last question! Did you retrofit the mizzen and extra headsail to your scruffie?
Good video. I never real realized Green Island was such a cool place. Looking forward to going there sometime.
Hi, I'm in the market for either a Scruffie 16 or a Navigator. Just wondering how you like the Scruffie? They sometimes seem a little slow in videos compared to the Navigator. How do you find it? Which do you think is more suitable for Moreton Bay?
Nice video. I'm looking at getting a boat. Are you happy with the Scruffie 16? How do you rate its sailing qualities compared to a regular sailing dinghy with a boom and centre board?
How deep is it out from the Fleming Road boat ramp? Do you think you could drive a 4.75. Tinny in there?
@sonndrewebber1093 High tide only, very muddy at low tide
Looks brilliant! Do the outriggers add to drag in light winds?
Beautiful
Hi Dennis we were chatting with you at the Bribie Island regatta and you mentioned the product that you used for the clear coating on your boat ... what was the name of the product ... cheers Russell
Boatcraft Aquacoat boatcraft.com.au/Shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=5_38
I enjoyed that Dennis. Well done.
Thanks for that. Good few days by the look of it.
You bet, better than working.
Great ❗
Nice!
Nice one . A great paddle . if I ever get up that way with my kayaks I will definitely camp and explore around there
Great event, beautiful sailing and cool video!
Thanks Robert - not very often that I get footage of my own bot from another member, great to see you own boat under sail.
Thanks for taking us along Dennis and definately enjoy your commentary.
Nice job Dennis, thanks!
Great video. Shots from atop the yard were fun. Thanks for sharing.
Great Job mate Well done with the editing beautiful video
Great Dennis, it looked like a fantastic trip and I especially liked Alex's... ... snags and Deb with onions🤣....a man after my own heart, cheers Paul
Special just for you. Thought you would like that.
Great video, thanks Dennis, very informative and enjoyable!
Hi Dennis, I was thinking about you over Easter and wondered if those nasty westerlies we had in Brissie were going to hammer you. However you seemed to have reasonable seas.
It made some brisk sailing at times but the boats handled it well.
Thank you for great sail video.
Oh, too brief! I love seeing those crafts, and was hoping for a much longer look!
Beautiful classic design boat
As a WBA Vic member, it looked like a lovely day out on the water.
A nice day out on the water is good for the soul.

Relaxing video Dennis. Great to see the different boats.
Nice one Dennis. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful boats, sailing event and video ❗😁❤️
Nice sail interesting assortment of crafts
Hi. I have a similar boat with a gaff rig here in the UK. Have you tried lowering the gaff and keeping it stowed vertical against the mast, secured quickly with 2-3 bungee cords? It keeps the gaff out of the way and you don’t have to tie the sail to stop it flapping. Love the vid. Wish we had your weather here.
Hi. What is that app you use to record your best speed etc.? Thanks.
Navonics app on my phone
@@Dentsln65 Ah. OK. Thanks.
Great vid dude, but get a dead cat for the mic. The wind noise is very annoying, thanx.
Nicely done and great to see some extended sailing sequences. Also thanks for the reminder about Spam - had forgotten all about that as an option!
Glad you enjoyed it, I can only eat spam fried or cooked into something as a substitute for bacon etc. - it's disgusting otherwise.
@@Dentsln65 Absolutely but a good emergency inclusion as can imagine nothing tasting better after spending a cold wet day capsizing only to discover your pantry is soaked.
Great crew in the little doggy
Beautiful event, beautiful boats and great video indeed! Congratulaions! Greetings from Poland!
Bloody hell is there a place on earth that Lester doesn't turn up and sail his boat.....looks fun guys!
Good call, was just thinking the same!
Some decent boat speed there Dennis! It looked like a good couple of days for sailing.
Lovely boat , what is it? How was it like sailing with the storm jib & mizzen like? Mother nature was not playing fair . Hopefully you will have better days ahead! Thanks for sharing this. From Buffalo NY
Thanks for sharing this with us and all of your sailboat's looked wonderful! Fail winds for a fantastic sailing season!!
Hi mate , just found your channel and subbed nice to watch I am looking to get a 16 footer
Fabulous! Looks like a great trip. Was that spam in true Swallows and Amazon’s style?
Cool! Thanks for sharing!..............⛵
Sounds like me last weekend. Sudden squall, reef the main....still too much.....drop the main....start engine...rope tangled in the prop....comedy of dramas but I stayed upright and made it home. Maybe next weekend will be better.
G'day Dennis, thanks for the video. I was hoping to join you but had other commitments, one of which was a family gathering at Karra yesterday. I was going to take the Whaler over, and my first thought was that the weather wasn't too hairy. But I wasn't ready as early as you, and with the showers ended up leaving her at home and taking the ferry. We came down to the beach a couple of times during the day but managed to miss you. I've found sailing jib and mizzen on the Whaler to be a very good way of dealing with gusty weather, and it looks like it worked well for you too. Cheers, Tony
Hi Dennis it looked like a nice day out and a good group of boats thanks for sharing, cheers Paul
It was a good day out and great to have crew aboard for the day.
Great, thanks Dennis!
Great video! Looks like you all had a perfect day for a sail.
We really should organise a RAID somewhere. The more I look around, the more little wooden boats we seem to have in SEQ. Will we see you at the classic boat regatta in May?
This weekend a few of us are doing a weekend trip from Redland bay around Macleay Island overnight South eastern side of Russell Island then down to the bedrooms for another overnight stay then north past Jacobs well back to Redland bay.
