hello & welcome to my hakone vlog! it was my first time ever visiting hakone, and i had so much fun, so i can't wait to share this one :')
we stayed at hotel nanpuso for two nights. the hotel was so wonderful, the food was great, the service was great, and the rooms (which included a private outside bath in addition to public onsen) were huuuge! we chose a hotel near the hakone yumoto area. there was a shuttle (200 yen) going to and from hakone yumoto and the hotel, which was really convenient.
we also did the hakone day loop in reverse (of what most people do online). i personally loved doing it this way, so that we could spend as much time as we wanted at the open air museum which was basically at our last stop! my favorite part about this day trip is that you can sneak in little bites anywhere. and every single stop of the hakone loop has something to offer!
when we went, the weather was really nice, and we saw mount fuji very beautifully. i've heard from some friends that it can get really windy & if it's snowing, you can't really see mt. fuji, so we got lucky that we were in such nice weather!
i wrote down our itinerary below in case you are interested. honestly, no regrets at all. maybe if we left the hotel earlier, the hakone shrine would have been less crowded, but it worked out well in the end~
itinerary:
DAY 1
- arrive at odawara station & buy the freepass there!
- take the local train (freepass) to hakone yumoto station
- souvenir shopping + lunch (yubadon naokichi & kamaboko yokocho kagosei) in hakone yumoto
- take shuttle to hotel nanpuso + check in
- dinner in hotel nanpuso & onsen time!
DAY 2
- breakfast in hotel nanpuso
- take shuttle to hakone yumoto station
- take hakone tozan bus (hakone yumoto to moto-hakone)
- moto-hakone: walk to hakone shrine, have some bread and coffee at bakery & table cafe
- take hakone kaizokusen (moto-hakone to togendai)
- togendai: lunch at togendai view restaurant
- take hakone tozan ropeway (togendai to owakudani)
- owakudani: eat the black egg!
- take hakone tozan ropeway (owakudani to sounzan)
- take hakone cablecar (souzan to gora)
- take hakone tozan railway (gora to choukoku no mori station)
- visit the choukoku no mori museum (hakone open air museum)
- take hakone tozan railway (choukoku no mori station to hakone yumoto)
- take taxi back to hotel nanpuso
- dinner at hotel nanpuso & onsen time!
