It’s Been a Good 3 Years
Some say the Subaru WRX STi is out dated…others say it’s a great sports sedan. Here’s my thoughts now that our lease is done and we’ve had the car for 3 years.

We all know JDM parts are superior to USDM....but was this really worth it? In this video I surprise Steph with a severely overpriced JDM part and she's not impressed. 아이나비 dash cam?
I had an option to get wrx sti limited or the new wrx, I went with STi 😁 it’s just me I wanted something iconic Legendary that has a scary history 😅, I would say the same to the GTR, congrats with a new car, it’s still a WRX
As I know this tunnel uses for blind spot indicator in a latter Subaru models
So I ordered both colours that they have on their website - Cherry Red and real cherry red. Neither match the front grill STI badge colour on a 2021 STI 🤷♂️
she looks like a brunette Sydney Sweeney
They have 3 colours on their website. Which one is the closest to the Sri badge on the front?
There are 2 colours. Real cherry red and cherry red STI pink. Which one is it?
We got the Cherry Red (STi Pink) -
I love my STI. I've had my 2019 base for 2 years. The 'one thing' I love about it really encompasses everything. Like you said, it does everything I need it to. It's a 4 door daily that doesn't make you give up the racecar life when you have a family! I've had some great cars; FC RX-7 Turbo ii, jdm AE86, b16a-swapped DA Integra, 2-door GC8 Impreza 2.5rs to name a few, and a few bikes. This is my first 4 door, and it's honestly the first car I really love. Anything "better" is out of my price range, haha. I like your approach to modifying as well. I'm on a similar path.
Awesome to hear opinion from someone who’s owned many other iconic sports cars! The STi honestly is great bang for buck especially considering how much cars cost nowadays. Not the perfect car but definitely a “jack of all trades” type of car.
keep her for good man!!
1000%
i am also like 3 years on my sti as well
Congrats! Hope you’re keeping it for the long haul!
I have a 2019 STI and the only mod done to it is a Remark R1 catback since it’s still under warranty for about 2 more years. I think it’s the best car ever
Remark makes great products An exhaust to bring out the rumble is already a day and night difference, plenty to enjoy!
I totally agree. I have a 2019 STI in WRB that I bought brand new and I absolutely love it. Always puts my smile on my face when I drive it
All about smiles per gallon :)
The only thing i have to disagree with you is the shifter. The sti shifter is one of the worst shifters i have ever driven, its clunky and wobbly even on gear, 3rd and 5th is so gated close to each other you can missshift 3rd most of the time if you not familiar with the car.
lol the shifting in the Wrx is infinitely worse, the sti’s in stock form needs some work- short shifter, shift bushings, rear diff inserts, and rear diff carrier and a weighted shift knob makes a night and day difference.
@lucian7182 sti too overrated. They talk about the very good awd system but in reality it understeers like crazy, unless you talking about the old sti's 2007 below which is actually rear bias awd. Ej engine is a dinosaur compare to the new fa engine, it has turbo lag, bad gasmilage and prone to knocking. Funny enough the current fwd kings (elantra N, type r) rotates better and alot sharper than the sti.
The STI shifter is literally the best 🔥🔥 Seems to me that you’ve never driven one before. It’s literally my favorite part about my STI and I’ve had multiple Honda’s. My STI shifter is way better!
@titansfan0828 LMFAO!! Bro you a clown bro. Sti is one of the WORST shifters. Fanboi alert LMFAO.
@titansfan0828 lmfao the sti has one of the shittiest shifter. You seriously comparing it to the honda shifter?🤣🤣
congrats on 3 years with the subie! I just hit the 6 year mark recently on my 2019 STI. The sound of the EJ25 will always brings a smile to my face :)
Thank you! Awesome that you’ve hit 6 years - boxer rumble will always be an iconic sound
Turbo, boxer, all wheel drive. Just a great all rounder. To your question, I like the older chassis’s because the VA body just looks too big. The older chassis’s looked more nimble.
GC and GD chassis was definitely the perfect size, not to mention the timeless design
I had a 2015 sti for 6 years, I've driven plenty of other cars when i was test driving for my next car. I test drove Stinger GT awd, TLX Type S sawd, M340i X drive, Lexus Is350 awd and still the STI feels so much better in driving experience. The STI feels so planted to the ground it's such a bizzare feeling you can't understand until you drive one (new gens not older gens). I literally couldn't find a suitable replacement so I ended up getting a G80 M3. Nothing on the market compared to it but I couldn't keep it as much as I loved it. I was getting older and it just made me feel like "boy racer" in it with that wing and every single teenage boy wanting to race me everywhere I went.
Nice upgrade, how do you like the G80? Did you get 6 speed or the ZF auto?
@thomasandsteph_ I like it, i really dont like how big it is lol, i got the 6 speed, was cheaper but i gotta admit i actually miss my STI, I'm considering trading it in for the Kia Ioniq 5 N, 647hp... thing is an absolute rocket!
Congratulations! The quality of your car is apparent from the video of your driving.
Thanks Joseph!
I have a 2021 STi and I absolutely love it. I love the simplicity, the feeling, the rawness, and the sound. It’s so good. I’ve also modded it slow, mostly due to finances, but I do love how I have been able to feel the subtleties that each mod adds.
100%. Modding cars isn’t cheap, but taking it slow has it perks. Every new part gives a brand new driving experience!
Yo! Your video just made me appreciate my car more, and also made me believe I made the right decision purchasing my STI after leasing for 3 years. I love your perspective on saying “don’t rush on modding your car, enjoy it stock so you can find the baseline to feel the difference when you upgrade it.” Lastly, I’m really loving the quote you said also “the STI isn’t the fastest race car on the market, but it is the best driving raw experience compared to other competitors.” Cuz i’ma be honest, I do feel and know this each time I boot up my STI. I waited 17 years to have my STI, matter of fact when paul walker brought the STI in fast and furious franchise, I told myself one day I’ll drive one for my own. Keep up the content! Liked and subscribed! I drive a 2020 pure red STI! I’ve hit my 3rd year having it! Loving it! I am on COBB catback exhaust, with fortune auto 500 coilovers, full aero kit and volk racing ze40 wheels. 🙏
Thanks Jeff! There’s so much to appreciate for these cars, sometimes we forget too until we take it for a nice drive :) Nice tasteful mods! Plenty of enjoyment just from exhaust and coilovers
@@thomasandsteph_couldn’t agree more man! To dream of something and have it come true, I don’t want to go back to dreaming. I want to live the dream and enjoy however long I have with my STI! #STIforlife ❤
The rings lands have nothing to do with maintenance, it’s a fact that they are brittle, and can crack with a single bad batch of gas or decent knock event. My buddy is in the process of replacing the engine in his 2019 at 36k miles bone stock aside from catback motul every 3k miles. I will say they are great cars however I would never recommend one for an only car that your family and livelihood depend on because a whole lot can go wrong with them, and they are very expensive to replace the engines compared to a ford or a Honda.
Ran my 02 to 230k, 04 to 99k and my 08 is at 167k. No real secret other than tune for the mods you have immediately, and check your oil level while filling up at the gas station.
NICE! Built stage 3 STI over here. it's more than a car to me!! LOVE IT! :)
Stage 3 is fun, my 21 is pushing 380whp on 91 and 450 on e85 tons of fun, looking to swap a built long block in the next 1-2 years.
Must be loads of fun 😮
@@thomasandsteph_ i baby my sti, easy 😍
Still dreaming on getting my 18 plus wrx sti 😢 I love how good and simple you guys 21 sti is.
You will soon enough! And thank you! :)
Congrats on 3 years with your STI! In a few months I will be at 3 years with my 2018 wrx sti and I still love how it looks and sounds even more than on day 1 ✌
You know you bought the right car when you love it more and more as time passes
These are some of the reasons (among many), that we'll never sell our '20 STI. Yes, we're inching our way towards 60, but it's the raw nature of this beast that keeps all of us enthusiasts, from letting go.. Love the creature comforts, my B9 Audi S4 affords me (including my heated and massaging seats). But when I'm feeling nostalgic, I grab the STI fob.
Definitely will be a nice JDM classic one day
Great video…gotta love the Sti, I love my 2018 Sti it even feels better when it’s paid off! My car looks so much like your car with the same set up, like the wheels and suspension. I do have mods to the engine though I have the bolt ons with flex fuel tuned with e85 and it so fun to drive. Oh the 2018 didn’t come with Apple car play that’s the 2019+ and the 2019+ have the type ra block which the 18’s didn’t 😢.
Ah you’re right! Only 2019+ got CarPlay & RA block. And yes practically twins, just need to get them side by side in person! 😁
Also theres jdm headlights, all black or full chrome oem headlights, rear headrests are different aswell.
Didn’t know about the headrests….🤔
HAHA, Steph Wins! Hey, come back to Wyoming...renting is a little easier.
Gregg! Don’t tempt us haha probably MUCH cheaper as well We miss Wyoming lots, hope all is well with you. Hope to see you when we pass by again on our next road trip!
I’m with Steph, that was a waste of $80 USD 😂
😭😭
Just open the door lol 😂
some people and i hate to say this would of thought u guys were serious about the blinker fluid
🤣🤣
Nice you have a place to live. The car mod is a mistake?
No regrets on the part but definitely overpriced
This video should have been titled, "please donate to my Go Fund Me page." Needed for funeral costs, as Wife ends his life, over an overpriced plastic part. LOL!!!
“Cause of death: overspent on a car part”
i bought one of those too! worth it imo. shines brighter through tinted windows
It is brighter for sure and definitely one of those “IYKYK” mods
Why move to Ontario? Is it cheaper than your previous residence
Not cheaper necessarily but is where we want to plant our roots for now and start a family eventually!
Ship it to me please...DM SENT!!!!
hahaha...this is an epsiode of marriage therapy.
Aww how about i buy one for you guys and me haha she seemed so sad about it Thomas lol 😅
🤣🤣 sounds like a good idea
I have a 2014 Subaru Forrester and I’m adding the mirror kit that Subaru offers with turn signals and that fancy approach light and this is something I’ve been wanting to add
Nice video but you guys missed nice rides in the spectator section. There was a rally car that did the wrc safari rally in Kenya
We must’ve missed it! When we walked the lot we didn’t see it there
I am literally picking up my first car I've ever bought tomorrow and hope I can attend next year's!
Congrats! First car is a special feeling
you guys gotta test drive the vb and film it! it drives amazing, i used to be the biggest hater when it came out. I test drove one then bought it hehe
We’ve heard nothing but amazing things about it when it comes to handling and overall drivability - would love to get some seat time in one!
VB WRX the goat.
I really enjoy watching y’all videos keep em coming
Thank you! More to come :)
next time stop talking show more cars 😅
very nice. Personally, random park where you want makes you walk the entire lot because it isn't grouped. Less desirable or older cars might not get as much foot traffic, so having it this way bug/blob eyes can be next to a VB. This is better imho.
For sure. It definitely makes you walk around more instead of staying around “preferred” models Organizing by colour/model is mainly just for aesthetic purposes 😅
is this like your subiefest??
Kind of, except probably on a much smaller scale 😢
