This is how to create an official CS2 skin!
1st major update of CS2 featured the Kilowatt case which contained a nice collection of skins. One of these skins is the Analog Input Sawed-Off. In this video I try to recreate the skin in Blender and GIMP, and show exactly how I do it!

Haha don't worry about it. My style in explaining things is to assume that nothing is trivial. So I'll continue explaining the way I do now ;)
guys help me when i open gimp the weapon is white instead of black and when i apply the mask it turns invisible
Make sure you're in the Material Preview mode and not Solid mode (The 4 circle icons on the top-right)
@@viperskins ok thx but i have another problem. Its not rly related to the video but why cant i open the workshop tools?
Would love to see a discord community for help :)
I will share a discord server sometime in the future. Stay tuned :)
Hey cant connect the meshes with Ctrl + J? Any Suggestions?
1. Make sure you're in Object mode and not Edit mode 2. Select the meshes one by one using shift, not the drag selection 3. Select the mesh that you want to add 1st, then the mesh to which the 1st one should be added
Hey Viper! When i create a node i do not have a dot for connection on it. So the time is 18:18 and i have same stuff as you but i couldn't connect my Wood group to any other things. Did i miss anything or it is the version issue?
Go inside the group node and connect the output of the shader to the output node. Whenever you create a group node the group should come with an input and output nodes. If for some reason you don't have the output node then click shift + A and search for it in the dialog
@@viperskins thank you, i just did sth wrong:)
Everytime I try to take the metal texture off the grip it takes the metal part off everything but the grip
Hey, would be great if you upload, not a lot of good skin making channels you know. But if you have other things in life, that's also understandable
I'll be back very soon with more content. I got very busy with personal stuff lately but I'll be back :)
Hello Viper, my good man! First of all! Awesome work! All of the videos are great. After a bit of struggle I used the combined series with the texture custom art video to finally create an own skin as complete newbie. But I ran into a little problem and I hope you can help me. My colours are for some reason too bright and too dark, but I dont get why, cause they are actually not bright and not dark... Can I control that somehow? The texture of the metal is too bright, while looking a bit dark for my opinion and the wood is actually too bright for my opinion, but still not accepted by the tool... I am totally confused, there are far brighter and also darker skins in the shop and also in the game... Edit: I could brighten the wood, now this is fine, but it says the metal is still too bright, even while parts of it, are purely black lol, is it because of the metallic thing?
Thank you very much for your nice words. In my opinion the best way to check for your albedo values is to open the albedo image in GIMP, use the color picker to get the color and see if the values fall in the range specified by Valve (Make sure to view the 0-255 values and not the 0-100 in the Color Dialog). But you say even when you put pure black your metal blinks pink? This sounds wrong. What skin style are you using? Gunsmith? Patina? One of the Anodized styles?
@@viperskins Well thanks for the response, Viper my good man! (Sorry can't stop, I don't know why but your accent - I actually can't tell which - is awesome and I really like the comedy elements, like the moment you turned of the music while inspecting the gun) Anyway :D So as explanation, I used two photos I took from real life textures and scaled them up, while preserving the quality as good as possible. Then I used the "art on your weapon" tutorial from you to apply it and got all other information out of your skin making series. Thanks again! :) One texture was wood and some areas were a bit dark and got blue at the end in the convars. I could fix that a bit with lighting it up in gimp. The third texture was just pure black. As I tried to get some metal parts just black. I could switch that to greyish colours if needed. The second texture was a photo of reflecting materials (in real life) and all really bright reflecting areas turned out pretty white in the texture. These areas were rather small while the other areas were pretty dark and had a wide spectrum of colours. They were actually that dark that I could barely see the contrast in game (besides the small white areas). Now comes the weird part. The black parts (a bit roughness and full metallic in blender) and the reflecting texture (0 roughness, full metallic in blender) were all pink (except the white highlited areas of the material). So actually the brightest parts were fine. I did actually set the metallic values to zero before baking as mentioned. But because of the weird outcome, I have the feeling the reason is not the colour itself but the combination with light and metallic or roughness. Maybe you have an idea now? I can't send photos here. Soo that's a bit difficult. Last point: what value do I have to check in gimp? RGB accumulated? Then Ill reach the limit very easily... Or is it the H value? I'm not sure overall. Sorry for the long text and thanks already for your help! Edit: Yeah it's a Gunsmith skin. I just saw a comment about RGB and metallic look, but your comment down below said, Gunsmith overwrites entire texture, so that is no solution, I guess.
Amazing tutorial. I will start making skins for me and my son. DO I have to publish them if I make it just for personal use, not for sale? Also do they need to be accepted if made only for personal use? Thanks again. Your videos may seem long, but they are packed with so much info, that I had to pause and replay every step.
Thank you very much for your nice words! Regarding using your skins in game, you have to publish your skins AND your skins have to be accepted by Valve. If your skin gets accepted then Valve will add your skin to something called a skin case and only then your skin may be purchased. But keep in mind that the competition for getting your skin accepted is extremely strong. I've been trying to get my skins accepted for 4 years and i still don't have any accepted yet!
hi love your videos i need help i get this error Resource Compile Items: Failed. (Error: -1073741819) when i inspect or preview a weapon i saw you asked in the discussion on steam and you had a temporary fix can you do a video on how to do what you did for a temporary fix
The error codes that you see in the error message is meaningless. I think it's more for log documentation, not more. You need to read the rest of the error message to figure out what the issue is. For me the problem was that there was a missing file for some reason and I fixed the problem by creating the file (Basically created a white image and named it as the name of the missing file). But I'm not sure that you're facing the same issue. So read the error message thoroughly and see what it says. Also sometimes the errors are temporary. So if you retry it will work immediately.
a lot of err on workshop

Hahaha thank you so much for your very nice comments! You really made me happy! I'm very glad I was able to help. Best of luck with your skin making journey :)
Great video! You have my sub! "But Viper my good man" I'm having an issue when putting the normal map onto the weapon (Glock) in the cs2 workshop. Looks like it is showing parts of the mesh in the map and has other strange artifacts like on the back of the handle (square bump) Keep the videos up man, really good teacher!
Thank you very much for the nice words and for your subscription. It is a tremendous support to me ❤️ Regarding your question, I believe you're using a Blender version greater than or equal to V4.0. If that's the case then this video will help you: th-cam.com/users/shortsJpGvl0yA09o?feature=share
@@viperskins Viper you are a beautiful, beautiful man! I spent days trying to find out what's going on. Absolute champ, normal map looks great now! I'm not out of the woods yet, doing a weird shiny chessboard finish on the gun now. trying to find info online how to fix. Thanks again X
thank you very much, it was very helpful!
Is there any quick way to convert your albedo map so it can be mettalic values without losing skin visibility?
You are the light of my life, thanks <3
Haha thank you ❤️
thank you for creating such fun and educational content! im a designer who loves skins and cant wait to get started.
Best of luck my friend!
Hi Viper! Thanks for another great tutorial. But I have some problem. I follow you step by step until the fifth minute of the video. The only thing I use is a different base color - flesh color (Hex:E8D2B5). After that, I try to draw on the weapon, for example, in bright red. However, this is barely noticeable on the weapon, the color is faded, although everything looks correct on the UV sheet. I will be glad of any help in this matter.
I don't know how to select the other mesh in the shading part all it does is either colour all of it or colour the other part, does anyone know how to fix, I'm using blender 4.2
How does the process work of continuing the painting? Say if I get the body done, but want to move onto the barrel or scope, how can I also apply my artwork onto that while keeping the body complete as well? I've tried to do it, but nothing seems to be working and I've had to redo the model over and over again.
Apply your painting on one part and save the result in an image. Apply another painting on another part and save the result again in a different image. Do that for all parts, and then combine the different images in a 2D photo editing tool (Photoshop, GIMP etc...)
@@viperskins Thanks a lot! I was also wondering for paint kits, since I ran into this issue; how would I go about keeping the default textures on the weapon? For instance, one part is painted, but another has the original CS2 texturing.
Any idea why a black metal material is flashing pink in convar-albedo?
I believe that means the color of your metal is somewhere between 90-180, which is the range that Valve MIGHT find acceptable
can you show how to "Endrit" do the "Verdant Web" skin in Workshop
Can we submit custom weapon models or is the geometry fixed? I guess normal map baking is the only way to simulate new geometry? Thanks for the videos; I appreciate you :)
You can't submit your own models. You can only create skins for the existing weapon models provided by Valve, which means you have to stick to the UV sheets of those models . And thank you for your nice words ☺️
I can`t find the " Texture Slots" ;(
th-cam.com/users/shortsFkf55wD63T0?feature=share
It seems that you made the entire image transparent!
Thanks for the awesome video! <3 My skin is almost done but i have one problem: I painted the scope, barrel, bipod and the nuts but when I inspect it in the workshop tool, the colours are not applied on the skin. I found some comments about this issue but I dont understand how to fix it.
Hello viper! I recently picked up your videos by pure chance when trying to learn about making cs skins, and your videos are really nice! In the tutorial where you made the nova relic you said you would cover the other method of using masking instead of taking it apart, normally if my skin didn’t require both patina, and custom paint job this wouldn’t be an issue, but with what I’m trying to make requires both finishes on the same part of the gun, could you please help me out?
If it helps you any, the main drawing is similar to the ak-47 empress, (in the middle of the receiver) while the patina pattern is gonna be on the edge of the receiver, (circling the main drawing)
I tried to figure it out on my own, but when using the masking option i kept on getting the error, “Missing stencil detected!”
how to get the body of the awp?
th-cam.com/video/N7Kz_2KA34s/w-d-xo.html
Workshop submissions seem absolutely brutal, submitted 3 skins and they all seem to get crazy negative reviews no matter what.
Yup. This is not the friendliest community! I also get many negative reviews. Let's hope that Valve mean it when they say they don't rely on the voting system too much
@@viperskins True- thanks for all these tutorials, been having a ton of fun learning blender.
What should I do if when I open GIMP I get the following message: "Image editor cloud not be launched, ensure that the path in User Preferences > File is valid Blender has rights to launch it".
Hey again Viper! Hope you upload some more of your awesome creations soon, in regards to my last issue uploading a skin, it happened to be one of the newer updates to my AMD drivers which included Anti Lag 2.0, reverted back a few versions and voila, fixed :)
Quite interesting to hear. Unfortunately my knowledge in graphic cards is very modest, so I'm glad you managed to fix the issue on your own because I doubt I could have helped. As for new videos I'm currently working on some stuff but it's going very slowly due to personal issues. Stay tuned though ;)
@@viperskinsSorry to hear about the personal issues but excited to see what you've been cooking in the workshop! Your super helpful videos and awesome workshop items have me attempting to learn Blender, tough but rewarding experience :)
My problem is, when i try to save my work in shading, it is not working to me save the different parts to png files. Every shade, or in edit mode to select the parts is only show me the selected parts, not the final result in the alpha texture why? Bc when i save the same result as u, it is saved the png files, but when i open the png files, it didnt show me the result.
Your videos are super helpful, however believe CS2 workshop has limited AMD GPUS, I recieve compling issue every single time i try to preview/inspect the final product, I was wondering if i could send you my Blend file and see if it works for you or if there is an obvious mistake. Made it through the whole building series for it to fail at the workshop step
Read the error you receive thoroughly. Recently I got an error due to a missing tga file not related to my skin (I created a blank tga file with the same name mentioned in the error and that fixed my issue). Sometimes the failure is due to a temporary issue that can be resolved by restarting the game (Or the computer). So again read the error and see what exactly it's complaining about. As for GPU issues, I believe that if you're able to run the CS2 game then you should be able to inspect your items
@@viperskins Appreciate the quick response! I reached out on Twitter as well to share screenshots of the error, as well as explain more. I think there really is nothing to fix the issue, as it seems to be occurring in the latest update :(

Hi Viper, im having problems with the offsets of the skins i made even if a put all to 0, can you help me or give some advise??
Hello Mr Viper, watched your series a lot of times and I'm slowly understanding all the steps. There are a few questions. 1st: The metallic look of some parts (which I turned off in blender) isnt there, even after tweaking and uploading the material mask 2nd: not all parts of the weapon got the finish which i showed up in blender (of course I have marked all before baking)
Viper i need ur help! a contest has been launched by face it on making the best cs2 community map that might be added to the game, and i honestly know nothing about making them, and since i couldnt find anypne i understood his tutorials better than you, i came to you, so would you pleaaaase make a tutorial on making cs2 maps, i really wanna get a map on cs2
Thank you for all your nice comments, they really mean a lot to me. Regarding a maps tutorial, unfortunately I've never tried to get into creating maps, so my knowledge about the topic is zero! I might consider creating maps in the future, and once I figure out the process I will make tutorials about it. But it won't be happening soon :(
