    Any physics to explain this ?

    • @crazyham
      @crazyham 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Good Question. It is widely known that wider gauge conductors have lower inductance per unit length. My opinion is that a wider conductor means more magnetic work involved to create the rotating magnetic field around the conductor & inductance is "magnetic inductance". I haven't stumbled upon any relevant physics to explain it but it may well be out there. I apologise for the poor video quality too 🙏

      @@crazyhamit is great one actually and what you are saying makes perfect sense. I couldn’t find clear thoughts about this phenomenon. I heard that the inductance is a measure of how efficient is the wire to produce magnetic field lines (i.e. magnetic flux). Since L= flux / current, either the flux reduces or the current increases. I tend to say the flux reduces do to smaller cross-sections area between the wire and ground where the flux penetrates? Just thought

    • @crazyham
      @crazyham 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, interesting thoughts. Also the capacitance with the surroundings reduces with a narrower conductor and increases with a wider conductor. This would hold true for a single wire or one of a pair too. Thanks so much for your comments my friend. ⚡🙏⚡

      @crazyham หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great questions my friend. The Hairdryer will be emitting significant RF waves on a number of really low frequencies. If too low in frequency, my meter isn't sensitive enough. Really low frequencies have really really long wavelengths, *So small antennas are less effective on really long wavelengths.* This meter & perhaps yours too and many others will pick up things like LED drivers etc as they also emit a lot of low frequencies but much higher in frequency compared to the hairdryer (assuming no fancy circuits). U could always use an oscilloscope, set to the range you are interested in and attach wires to the probes as an antenna system and see the different frequencies and how strong or weak they measure etc. Even a fairly cheap pocket oscilloscope would be ideal. It's what I would do in your situation & if you haven't used an oscilloscope it will be a great and useful learning curve too ⚡🙏⚡

    • @crazyham
      @crazyham หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi my friend & thanks for your comment. You can connect a potentiometer between either the positive or the negative DC side that leads to the meter terminal. Example, interrupt the connection to the positive terminal of the meter with a potentiometer. I suggest approx 100K ohm Potentiometer. I suspect the 1N34A diodes would give a similar result but I suspect that a genuine 1N60P germanium diode might be a tad more efficient at higher frequencies but I am not 100% sure. Be careful as there are plenty of fake 1N60P diodes for sale that are really Silicon diodes. (You can also leave out the inductor if you want as it is a little bit of overkill. It was to ensure that the system only worked as a dipole. It will still be sensitive and useful without the inductor.) Let me know how you go with the project mate & 73 from Australia 🇦🇺

    I want to build one of these myself, but I have a few questions: - Why did you have to send the signal generator output to ground when the antenna switch opened? Why could you not just let the signal output float? - Are the positive and ground of the function generator just hooked up directly to the mast and ground-plane of the antenna (respectively) directly through the coax? - Is the scope probe connected to the positive of the feedline to the antenna? Or at some other point in the circuit? Thanks so much!

    • @crazyham
      @crazyham 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi there. I recommend sending the signal to ground via a 50 OHm resistor when the switch is open. I done that after the video. Some of my function generators behave badly when shorted. (Dimming lights etc) Also when I left it floating instead of shunting to ground some of the rf still made it to the antenna so the morse was just changing magnitude instead of truly on and off. The scope probe was simply connected to the output side of the relay (essentially the coax shield and centre conductor after the switching .) I simply had the two output terminals linked straight to the output coax cable so I could either use a wire antenna directly or use a coax feed. You have to make sure you connect the relay correctly so you dont end up with the switch closed when the light is off and open when on. I recommend using a better function generator also. Thanks for your questions & I hope I managed to clarify what you wanted to know. (Additional info) I have since modified the system to be operated by a morse keyer for ps2 keyboard circuit that you would normally key the radio with using a keyboard and memories, all I had to do was connect the line that would key the transmitter to where the LDR photosensor switch connected to the relay circuit which replaces the light sensor to key the relay. If I can find a link to one, I will try add it in another comment.

    • @crazyham

      I am currently unable to find a link, but the morse keyer I use is called Betatech Instruments K11-20 Keyboard Keyer. Though any similar unit would do that job too if u wanted to key it with a keyboard.

      @@crazyham Thanks so much! I'm just getting back into amateur radio after a 10 year hiatus. This time I want to try and build my own equipment. I have an Owon handheld scope that I'll be using as the function generator. I think my first step once I get my dipole antenna setup will be to connect the function generator directly to the antenna and just start and stop it with the buttons on the scope to see if I'm getting a detectible signal on some local WebSDRs. Next my plan is to put a button inline with the antenna so I can drive it manually. Originally, I was just going to have it be a SPST switch and let the signal output float, but based on your feedback, I decided to buy a SPDT button so I can send it to ground through a 5W 50ohm resistor. And if that all works, I might try and build an amp and filter for it to see if I can get around 1-5W out of it. Should be fun either way though!

    • @crazyham
      @crazyham 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm so pleased you are getting back into ham radio mate 🙏 That sounds like a good plan. I have also experimented using a function generator into an inductor and adding an audio source across the inductor & tuning to resonance with an external magnet. I have managed to achieve both AM modulation & FM modulation but this was an elaborate inductor design. If you look back through my older videos there should be some on that topic. I love the experimental side of Amateur Radio personally but I am on hold at the moment as I am selling up to move north (warmer weather). 73 my friend de VK3VKe ⚡🙏⚡

      I have recently purchased a cheap rf amp on ebay for 3MHz to 28 MHz that works great from just a function generator & it only cost me around $35 AUD assembled lol. It has a max output of 30 watt with an input of 3 watt max. Not bad for such a low cost. I bought it to see if it was ok. Using only a function generator as the source at 0.5 watt into the amp I have been hitting Western Australia (3,500 km away) with an S7 to S9 & in my next location I may set up a number of verticals all phased with a small amp at the base of each vertical DC powered via the coax using bias tees. It will be a fun challenge impedance matching at the source and at each vertical yet my trick using magnets on inductive cores makes that so much easier.

    Hi mate, been looking for a video like this. Is there a way we can connect I have some questions I’d like to ask you?

    • @crazyham
      @crazyham 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, by all means you can ask me questions. You can either use the comments section or perhaps email me here : rock_da_cosmos@protonmail.com Essentially I am adjusting the inductance value of the magnetic core/ferrite material using an external magnetic field until I find a resonant state & I have managed to get hugely increased Q factors with this method but it is still debatable regarding the actual working of this. I hope to do further exploration of this concept when I settle in my new location next year. A ferrite core is a magnetic material yet any polarisation of the magnetic field is caused by the applied alternating currents. In my view, we can oscillate the orientation of the permanent magnetic field when brought to resonance allowing for a quicker pull back if you like causing at increase in the energy state. A more sudden change within a small space of time is an increase of energy. The none polarised core cannot achieve this alone even when at resonance. My experience suggests that the magnetic field produced by the windings has to be offset to the externally applied magnetic field in order to create a wobble of the net magnetic field that aligns in timing with the applied frequency. I hope that makes some sense.

    It doesn't Unlock TX on the Aircraft Band or the MF Bands below the 160 metre amateur band ! The resistors that were already there were Zero Ohm Resistors which are the same as a Simple Bridge of Solder or Conductive Ink. The Euro model only needed one Zero Ohm resistor to be removed. I suggest trying to get the resistance as low as possible to be on the safe side. Give the conductive Ink/conductive paint enough time to dry properly & if the resistance reads a little high, touch up again after drying with more ink/paint as More layers are just like having more resistors in parallel which reduces resistance. 🙏

    ampere turns. dont try and charge a capacitor, but rather, build a magnetic field (due to miniscule current charging a capacitor) that can be collapsed...

  • @onehitpick9758
    @onehitpick9758 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    You need to collect charge carriers to get any substantial power. So you need to be ripping electrons off of air molecules or access large amounts of ion flow, and there are only so many air molecules up there. So your antenna at the top would have to be a huge array of pointy pins.

    I've come up with a similar design. you must consider that not only does atmospheric DC exist but atmospheric AC is what powers such a diode array. Separately consider your AC subcircuit behavior and your DC subcircuit behavior. If you are trying to multiply atmospheric DC with diodes , it does not work like that. Redesign your circuit to take advantage of atmospheric AC to boost the DC. Faymans works by allowing DC to flow through a wire. Your design should work by controlling AC to store DC. If you look at the basic diode multiplier that you show it has AC source powering it. Vi represented by a sinewave. DC will have no effect on such a circuit.

      I think you missed my reference to an excitation of the system with an external signal or the possibility of background radiation 🙏(Words to that effect) Hence my Suggestion of it likely being a Good Rectenna System. (Rectifying Antenna) AC RF /DC Bais) I also made reference to Tunable Inductors for tuning to Resonance which of course is frequency dependent. Thanks for your Comment & Happy 2024.
