    Thanks for the video! Your pasture is starting to change for the better. It amazing what rolling hay and bale grazing does for the ground. I have to cull one of my sheep too. We don’t have many though, but I looked at her foot I didn’t see anything wrong but she still has a limp. She is a goofy one too as being a little spooky compared to the rest, but we can pet most of our animals 😂. Some of our animals come to us to be petted where others we have to walk up to them.

I got 1/3 of my hay now and sometime next week I’ll get more of it. I looked at the chicken manure tea the other day. I will say it is a little darker greener than the control where I didn’t put any on. The 1:17 ratio is the darkest too. I did 2 more experiments on August 13 which one is no dilution and the other ratio is 1:1. I hope I don’t burn the plants being that strong. My plan is to use up all the chicken manure tea before it freezes. We are getting some moisture now so I’m hoping that will make a difference too.

    Hey George when you move you multi species how do you figure up how much forage to give them on your daily moves? Do you just figure up the cattle only because they would need to consume more than the sheep?

    • @georgeheller2281
      @georgeheller2281 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @bryanblackburn7074 it's really just a daily observation, I have a general idea of how much space to give them, based on that, what the current paddock looks like, and available forage I make my best guess at the size of the next paddock. My eyes are the most used tool when setting the next area.

    • @seandoherty4236
      @seandoherty4236 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      There are grazing calculators available, which require you to be able to gauge the quality of forage. In it, 6 sheep = 1 cow. Then you figure how much space you have, quality of forage, and how long you would have before they would expect to be starting a second pass through the grass. You can read up on how to estimate these things.

      Grasses, while vegetative and basically regardless of type, always push up the highest concentration of sweetest carbs and sugars to their tips. So if your animal takes the tip off the "tastiest" ice cream grass, it will eventually be faced with the decision "Low sugar ice cream grass or high sugar someyhing else". And eventually, the lower carb grass tops will be sweeter than the "best" grass thats already been grazed. Plus, like a lot of creatures, cattle like a little variety in their diet if given a choice. If not under the pressure of a pasture thats been overgrazed, they won't feel desperate to compete and graze not leaving anything behind them.
