Nice car, except the wheels, which are wrong for the W126 and the gypsy chrome parts on the fenders...who got mostly installed for covering the rust.

That dash was there until about 2004. My 2003 is still old spec.

My late dad had one, was upgraded to 1.8 with the autobox, ran very well, and strangely the steering on it was much lighter than my brother's caddy bakkie. Sadly it was affirmatively shopped one night from his yard, and nogal with his wheelchair in the back because he had trouble waking.

I love the simplicity of these old Volkswagens. Built to last as well.

110000 km. Just run in! My 2003 old spec citi has 340000km still drives well. Been from Pretoria to Cape Town and back no issue.

In addition to the points made, the car sits on the road very well - stable, gives a feeling of security. And yes, the "survivor" status is indeed what makes it "special".

Thanks for the video. That WERE/ARE great cars, and as you say, ride a lot better than a Citi Golf did. I had an 85 Jumbo Golf/Mk 2 Golf. Did over 500 000 kms in it. Good point about the wing mirror on left side - the W123's were HUGELY costly in period...hence pretty much everything was an extra! Good point about the scratching that occurs beneath the door handle...see that in so many cars.

How amazing to see such a well looked after preserved car. Credit to the owners. Brought up in the days where you were taught to look after your things. That car could run for 100 years not like the modern throw away cars made today. Colour combination is really nice to. Thanks for showing us the car. Just fit another cluster in with a rev gauge and it works ,all the wiring is already there. German engineering and simplicity you just don't get anymore. Happy motoring.

I live in Swakopmund Namibia, it is one of the most corrosive places on earth. "No lies," even Tupperware rusts, I own a workshop that specializes in Mercedes-Benz ,but I also work on other makes of cars. Don't know what the VW engineering department did to the Fox ,but it is the most corrosive resistant car ever made. They just don't rust, even after 25 +years in Swakopmund. And with all our salt roads that says a lot.

This car was engineered with a level of build quality that’s almost rare these days - every part feels robust and meticulously crafted. In our family, we had the 350SE, 280SE, and 380SE models from the '70s and '80s, but the W123 always held a special place. Even now, after all these years, it’s remarkable how well it still performs. It’s a testament to exceptional engineering and quality, and I often dream about having another one. They truly don’t make them like this anymore.

Love it! The Fox must be quite rare by now. In my opinion the Mk. 1 golf is one of the most beautiful hatchbacks of all time. It was styled by Giorgetto Giugiaro who also did the DeLorean, Lotus Esprit and several Ferraris and Alfas. I would love one but I already have 3 old cars that waste money and space and I don't want to part with any of them...

Lovely old girl, keep it , do it up slowly, find correct rear lights, remove the Beeding at rear, buff up paint, and in 2 years time it will be worth double than today. As long as body is not rotten, you got a winner.

The noise when you close the door is the sound of good, old fashioned, German quality...wonderful.

i’m was looking for one today and was wondering how they drive then i remembered i saw one awhile ago at the walmer spar, so i thought if i see it again i’ll ask the owner how it drives. Anyways i decide to go on youtube and search mx6 and i see your video posted recently so i start it then realise you are in pe. i dont know if it was you at the spar but it was a red mx6 so just thought it was weird 😂

I had a 1990 500 when I lived in ZA for a while. It truly was a beautiful car. Travelled up to Namibia quite often and it was a delight on those roads. I had to leave it behind. The last of them built to last. I have the Chrysler 6.4l 300 now in Australia but have fond memories of the Mercedes. That one is a stunner! PE is a lovely part of the world too. 👍🏻
