National Anthem of Spain | Marcha Real | Kingdom of Spain
The Spanish national anthem, known as the "Marcha Real" or Royal March, has a history dating back to the 18th century. It is one of the few national anthems in the world that has no official lyrics. The music was originally composed by Manuel de Espinosa de los Monteros around 1761, during the reign of King Charles III of Spain. It was later arranged by musician and composer Bartolomé Pérez Casas in 1770. The "Marcha Real" was officially adopted as Spain's national anthem in 1770, although it did not have official status until 1776. Over the years, there have been several attempts to add lyrics to the anthem, but none have been officially adopted. The "Marcha Real" was played without lyrics until 2007 when a national competition was held to select new lyrics, but none were chosen. Today, the anthem is played at official ceremonies and events, and its lack of lyrics is seen as a symbol of Spain's diversity and unity.
