Angelia is an Algorithmic Intelligence research project for Electronic Music developed by Jean-Claude Heudin.
Angelia is a music programming language including algorithms such as a corpus-based genetic algorithm, neural networks, markov chains, cellular automata, fractal development. Angelia is not a Deep Learning AI: it does not use large amount of data from not cited composers. Angelia runs on a tablet with minimal energy consumption.
All tracks are composed and performed by J.-C. Heudin with Angelia.
Jean-Claude Heudin is a scientist, composer and writer. He holds a Director of Research Degree from the University of Paris-Sud. He is the author of many international scientific papers as well as several books in the fields of AI and Complex Systems published by Odile Jacob, and Science eBook he founded. Since 2017, his research focused on Angelia, an Art and Algorithmic Intelligence research project for Contemporary Electronic Music.

Quantum Sequence – Bach meets Quantum Music
This is my third experiment with a new family of generative algorithms based on quantum theory I have developed.
Qunotes are like Qubits but with notes instead of binary information. In a classical system, a note should be in one state, i.e. with a defined frequency and intensity (if we consider only two parameters). However, quantum theory allows a qunote to be in a coherent superposition of several states simultaneously. It’s only when the piece of quantum music is played that a qunote collapses into a defined state. This results in many possible interpretations of the same score.
A Quantum Sequence may be seen as a suite of entangled qunotes. In this experiment I have created a quantum sequence with the superposition of the subjects of four fugues in D minor/F major from Johann Sebastian Bach: BWV565, BWV851, BWV875, BWV880. Then, I have programmed Angelia’s tracker to play the quantum sequence using four fugue-like voices, with a 60 bpm tempo in 6:8. The sound is generated by three instances of Pure Piano and one of Animoog Z loaded in AUM running on my iPad.
The quantum sequence creates a sort of stochastic blending between the four themes. Each time the sequence is played, it generates a different but similar melody. By changing the probability amplitudes, you greatly modify the way the stochastic blending is made. Tell me what you think about the result.
Note that quantum effects in this experiment are simulated on a conventional computer. However, both the qunotes could be implemented on a real quantum computer.

sounds great, it's funny because I have developed the same kind of algorithms, with drifting sequences applying random mutations and sometimes coming back to the original sequence , to create a kind of living musical creature

Really interesting concept. My suggestion is to allow for 2 notes to be played simultaneously but to separate them in the L and R channels.
🙏 In this short track the main voice is central, but the lower and higher voices are panned respectively to the left and right. However not a hard pan, only 30%.

@@MichelBataillard oui, ce n’est pas ma version préférée également. Je crois qu’il faut trouver un compromis, ce que j’ai essayé de faire. Une bonne part de ma recherche vise d’ailleurs à « humaniser » l’interprétation.

@@jcheudin It's the most honest take on it I've been able to come up with lol. It's not optimistic but it does mean we can keep going. Maybe there's something at the bottom of the slope. Maybe there's a whole other slope, maybe we can make a landing for ourselves, who knows? We're going somewhere, at least.

@@triangleunderstander the rule is evolved by applying a genetic algorithm. You might ask to Jeffrey Ventrella if you want to know more about the cellular automata he used.

🙏 The application is ANGELIA, a software tool that I have developed since 2017. Concerning instruments, I used two Moog Mother-32 for the bass sound, and the Waldorf Nave synthesizer for the other ones. And a pinch of Valhalla vintage verb and massive. 🎼🎵🎵🎵

@@danielforro-forrotronics3921 Unfortunately not. I programmed it, but with no ambition to create an available product. It takes too much time and I prefer using my time to make research and music.
