Mercury Rising

เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 4 พ.ย. 2017
I enjoy gardening 🌱 and travelling ✈️ when I get time away from my busy work schedule 👩🏽💻.
I live in beautiful Vancouver part-time as well as the Fraser Valley and go between the two 🇨🇦.
I garden in the fertile lands of the Fraser Valley, in the Pacific Northwest 🌧️, where I grew up, in zone 8b.
I found documenting the progress in the garden is helpful and is great for remembering what plants you put where! 😄
I’m just an amateur who enjoys the peace and beauty in the garden.

Adding Edging, Hakonechloa All Gold, Honorine Joubert Anemone, Double Pecan Echinacea & Alnwick Rose
This project took a long time to get started and get wrapped up. Honestly, I had been avoiding it because I knew it would be tough.
I had planned to install edging at the back of this flower bed to prevent washouts. I found a pre-rusted metal edging that fit the bill.
After a few hiccups, I got that in and then weeded and added my amendments. I was able to add in some Honorine Joubert anemones and some double coded butter pecan coneflower.
I also had some All Gold Hakonechloa grass put in under my pear tree for a pop of chartreuse to brighten up that shadier area.
Lastly, I was able to plant my Alnwick Rose. I’m not sure if that’s where it will stay, but I was happy to get it out of its plastic bag!

Old Fashioned Bleeding Heart & Visions Astilbe + Getting a Bonus David Austin Alnwick Rose! 🌹

In this video we plant a couple of clearance plants I got for $3/apiece! One is the classic Old Fashioned Bleeding Heart which has stunning spring blooms that are incredibly unique. The second is a Visions in Pink astilbe to go across from the one I already planted in my narrow garden bed in a previous video. I saved the best for last! I got a bonus plant 🙂. Replacing a Spirea & Some Boxwoods 🪴
มุมมอง 13221 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
It’s a great time of year to shuffle plants around! We are getting some rain mixed in with some dry days with part sun so it’s a nice time to be in the garden 🙂. I gave away a spirea that was getting too large for its location and replaced it with a lilac on standard, clematis and two Munstead lavender. I also finally got around to pulling the dead boxwood that have been in their containers all...

This little strip has always been a problem area. It floods in fall/winter and dries out in summer. I had tried Carex in it for years without luck, basically replanting Carex like it was an annual. I looked at it all summer and finally decided to try and fix it. I added two Shrimp on the Barbie lungwort/Pulmonaria and put a Visions in Pink astilbe in the centre. (Pink theme!) Both these plants ...
Planting Daphne Odora “Perfume Princess” 👑, “Evergold” Carex & “Fall in Love Sweetly” Anemone
มุมมอง 13221 วันที่ผ่านมา
I had a Japanese Andromeda (Pieris) removed to make room for a plant I’ve wanted for a long time - a Daphne! This variety is called Perfume Princess and it blooms mid-winter to spring. I also transplanted a Carex and added a clearance anemone to my front garden bed. Zone 8B. #flowers #backyardgarden #garden #smallyoutuber
Yarrow, Yew, Nepeta, Gaura & Penstemon, Oh My! 😄
มุมมอง 20421 วันที่ผ่านมา
I added some plants to a neglected and challenging corner of the garden in zone 8b. An evergreen Rising Star Yew, Kitten Around Nepeta, Sparkle White Gaura, white Yarrow and Onyx & Pearls Penstemon were added under a partiallydhafed area under a plum tree. I ran out of steam but the next day was overcast so I was able to get it mulched. Looks so much better 😀! #garden #flowers #smallyoutuber #s...
Giving Lavender a Severe Haircut & Staking a Few Plants 🪴 💜
มุมมอง 10228 วันที่ผ่านมา
The last day of August was a hot one! But I was excited to get out in the garden and work in a shaded area. I gave some lavender a very severe cutback and staked a few plants that had been nailed by a windstorm. I cleaned up a garden bed and top dressed it with compost to prepare it for fall. As we approach the back half of summer, we take a look at how are the containers are faring. These get rain or hand watering only. I’m not the most consistent, unfortunately, but they are alive! 😄 I fertilize once in a blue moon with water soluble Miracle Grow Bloom Booster, which is readily available in my area. #garden #gardentour #flowers
What’s Blooming in Mid-July? 🌸 Windy Day Highlights 🌬️
มุมมอง 2252 หลายเดือนก่อน
We finally got an overcast day and there are some surprises in the garden! There are some gorgeous lilies in bloom. The break from the heat allowed me to FINALLY get around to edging the circle garden, even there is always more edging to be done. The pollinators are loving all the blooms 😊 #garden #flowers #gardentour

Deadheading is Not Just for Roses! 🥀 Keeping the Garden Looking Fresh in July 🥵
มุมมอง 1582 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video I deadhead some perennials in hopes of a second flush of blooms including salvia, nepeta, clematis, and scabiosa/pin cushion flower. Canada Day Back Garden Tour 🇨🇦
มุมมอง 4482 หลายเดือนก่อน
We started this tour on the evening of Canada Day, finished the tour the next morning and are posting on the Fourth of July. I was very reluctant to show my back garden because there is still so much to do - edging, mulching, weeding etc. it is a far cry from the beautiful gardens I see on TH-cam 🫣. But, it’s so very helpful to see how far it has come to date and to look at past pictures. Time ...
June 2024 Front Garden Tour 🌹🌱🪴🌸
มุมมอง 2.9K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
I never thought my zone 8b Pacific Northwest garden was good enough to do a tour of. I kept telling myself I was going to wait until it looked better. Then suddenly it’s already the end of June and I realized that at this rate, I will NEVER do a garden tour because I will never think it’s good enough! So I just bit the bullet and went for it. I only did the front yard because that alone was alr...

Clematis ... it needs to be cut back to 4 inches. It will then bloom all the way to the top.
@@LindaDavis-iq9zj as soon as it’s done blooming? It’s a little hard to reach it under there so maybe in winter when rose is dormant 🤔.

Love Savannah! Very near my home in south Georgia. And love the book 🥰
It’s a great city to visit. The book definitely put it in the map!
Butterfly bush's take a long tolime to come up ,they come up from the ground.
That’s good news! Maybe there is hope for them yet!
I don't think the seed starting is on you, those puck things are horrible. I have a channel as well, but this year, I used Vermont Compost and neptunes harvest to start seeds and it worked so well. You don't have to up pot with it but started with it, it is amazing. The milk jug thing is awesome!
Yes, those pucks need constant attention. The advantage is they are space savers.
Looks really nice and clean. I’ve been working on my front as well and taking several breaks so I get it! Great job thus far 👏🏾
Thanks! Sometimes slow and steady is the way to go 😊

Do you know how these do in wind? Thank you for this video; very helpful. 😊🌟
Mine are doing just fine and we had a wind storm a few days ago ☺️. I’ll do an update video after they bud out.
I started mine on feb 4th this year. I watched a video saying that if you start them early enough you will get blooms. I shoved them outside into the ground in march tho lol so that probably didn’t help things. I’m in Langley. Fingers crossed!
I didn’t realize they were biennial but really hope I get blooms this year! My seedlings are still tiny…
