Installing a new culvert
มุมมอง 8078 หลายเดือนก่อน
Protecting your gravel driveway is important and you often have to work off the driveway to do that. This creek would often overflow because it had two old tanks that had the ends cut off so they could be used as culverts. The problem is: they were collapsing AND sticks and debris was getting trapped where the two 'culverts' met in the middle. We replaced the two with a new larger culvert that ...

Good work addressing the water issues on the road. I will say the ditches you created are not the best from a practical standpoint. They look like they’re waiting for someone to hang a tire too close and they’re ready to suck the vehicle in. Road looks good!

Former Landscape Architect.... amazing results when you have amazing equipment. You follow rule number 1: if you are going to do a job, do it right the first time. Grading, subbase, drainage, surface treatment, etc all play key parts in driveways, especially gravel ones. Job well done... thanks for sharing.

  • @portlandlocalchurch8168

I have found that 1inch to 1-1/2inch clean crushed rock with NO "fines" last longer, and grabs onto the mud It doesn't wash out or cause potholes and puddles like 3/4 - does.. It is more expensive and doesn't go as far when you spread it but it does the job well... It's not so big that you can't walk on it without bending your ankle and the surface is still easily driven on by all types of vehicles

But if you have fines at a size smaller than about 0.1 mm you are going to have pour drainage at the surface. My decomposed granite walking paths are always flooded during rain. My walking paths with larger crushed rock drain immediately.

Just found your channel. Thanks for taking the time to share your talent and techniques! I'll definitely be watching your back catalog of videos. I have about 5 miles of gravel roads to maintain. We use compact tractors (40hp or less). Your method of compaction with a skid steer is the thing we need, but just can't fit it in the budget. Have you seen or know of any less expensive ways to add compaction to our maintenance and repair that will work with a compact tractor?

Compaction is important, but the material needs to be properly conditioned beforehand. This means moistening the material before rolling it. The material appeared too dry initially. Secondly, a subsurface drain should be installed at the lowest point of the driveway, roughly at its midpoint. This drain should run under the driveway to direct water from one side to the ditch on the other, ensuring proper drainage.
