Testing a Türlen Test Dial Indicator 7 Jewels "High Precision" for repeatability
มุมมอง 1892 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I'm testing a jungle site special, this "Türlen Test Dial Indicator 7 Jewels High Precision 0.0005" 0-15-0" for repeatability. The test is simple. The vise (not trammed in) is holding a cheap precision ground parallel. It has a black mark on it indicating zero position. The indicator should return to zero with each sweep at the same spot on the parallel.

1979 Honda XL500S first start after 35 years
มุมมอง 2132 ปีที่แล้ว
This is a 1979 Honda XL500S which I've been restoring. I call it "The Desert Fox" because when it arrived in my hands, someone had rattle-can painted it with beige base color and left it to die. This engine received a full service including cleaning of the catch screen, valve adjustment and checks but was in over all good condition.

Thank you for posting this video. I only wish that you could have stopped waving your camera about. I had to rush down to the chemist and get something for seasickness after watching it. By the way - it is a good idea to read the instruction book before jumping to conclusions. The needle screw does not control “the amount of oil that gets to the top of the head”. It controls the oil feed to the inlet valve stem only, and the correct setting is ca. one-sixth of a complete turn from the fully closed position. Open too much and you will get a smoky exhaust. Lucas brake switches were always made of metal - not bakelite. Best regards, Preben

Those early Mikuni were real quality carbs....later ones delete hex fittings on jets and bodies and, worse thing in later carbs is float needle body retained by O ring that perishes, causing mystery flooding for many owners. 😎

I had one in 1970 when I was 17 and went everywhere on it for a couple of years. Nothing ever went wrong and to be honest I hardly maintained it (as I had no money or know-how!) About ten years ago I bought another one, same year and in reasonable condition like this. Three years of restoration and it is in my garage like new. Whenever I ride it and smell that two stroke smell I feel seventeen all over again! I will never sell it!🙂

Some 50 years ago, I had a M18, used for fun-racing. We welded up the cams, and grind them down acording to a cardboard profile one of the guys had gotten hold on, to increase the lift an duration. And we added an extra valvespring, as I recall it, an echaustspring from a Volkswagen 1200, placed under the original hairpinsprings. And then a bigger carburetter. Wow, did it go! What a lot of fun we had, for very litle money. I realy loved that bike, we spend many good times together.

You can’t have good readings with this type of tools, reasons are it’s not precise enough and also air hose expand so you always have less psi than you really have

Worked a treat on the first clip, even though the piston wasn't secured on the bench. Once the piston mounted on the conrod, on my particular engine, I found the pin just blocked the clip from going in far enough. The clips were extra hard to compress with my fingers so for the second clip I slid it onto some wooden dowel and gently compressed it a little with pliers, which made it much easier.

Is there actually small holes that bleed out to lube top rocker pushrod cup ? , I am sure it is just a recess and as the oil comes out of the rocker shaft bush and gets on the inside that fast moving rocker it flicks oil to this recess which causes it to build up and go down the push rod , I cant see any holes on my 49 Matchless . Cheers
