FL Flatsmaster
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 9 ก.ค. 2015
My name is Donnie AKA - FL Flatsmaster. I’m a native Floridian that has spent my whole life fishing and enjoying the diverse ecosystems of the Sunshine State. I currently live and fish in the Southwest Florida region around Fort Myers, Cape Coral, and Charlotte Harbor. I always enjoy freshwater fishing for largemouth and peacock bass, but inshore wade fishing on the grass flats and any other areas where I can get my feet wet has become my specialty and passion over the past few years. I love to catch big snook, speckled trout and redfish with artificial lures on light tackle. My goal is to continue to grow my channel by producing exciting fishing content along with tips and tricks that will help fellow anglers to keep lines tight.

Looks like a good fishing spot. Cool video!👍
Great vid man
I've been killing them pretty much over in the same area is over by the Myakka cut big trout and Big Reds and huge jacks on the sewalls
That’s awesome are you fishing from a boat or from the seawall?
@FLFlatsmaster boat 14 ft Grizzly tracker love it
Nice Video. I hope you kept one of those trout. I just had one for dinner caught down in Fakahatchee Bay.
Didn’t keep any but I should have! Haven’t fished that area. 10k islands right?
Great video thanks for sharing from the old north Ga guy 👍👍
Enjoyed the video. You made your point, informed the viewers and had anglers wanting to emulate you. Most importantly you did it all in less than 8 minutes!
why no more sustain? currently found a site selling them half off.
@@WhiteGhost21 I still have the sustain but I’m partnered with Okuma at the moment so I’m using their rods & reels
@@FLFlatsmaster gotcha. i started off on okumas when i first began and theyre good for beginners. i also felt the ceymar hd yesterday at a store and it felt like a 'mano- was impressed. so how long have you had your sustain now for? youve only changed the ceramic roller in that entire time?
@ I’ve had the sustain for like 3 years. I changed the line roller multiple times before I found the ceramic one. The new X series reel from Okuma is very similar to a Stradic
@@FLFlatsmaster I went with the new Twin Power as I already own the 2020 version and it still is going strong, a year later.
@@WhiteGhost21 nice! I saw the new twin power at Icast and was super impressed

I have a Pro Green. Unfortunately they were discontinued. They are great rods too. I have found my MH fast to handle more like a Medium Fast.
@@stevedupree525 I’ve heard great things about the Pro Greens. Wish I could have tried one. Loomis inshore rods are all a little lighter than the rating, not sure why that is.
Do you think a 6000 size Salina would work with the same rod? I had a 8000 sized spinning reel with my XH Silver Slayers but they felt just to heavy to use with it IMO. I want to toss live bait and have the option to toss a heavy popper (not often). I also think the 6000 Salina holds an almost perfect amount of 50lb braid, 270 yards.
@@TNRVG I think a 6000 Salina would be great on it. It will still hold plenty of line and save you some weight. The Silver Slayer rods are pretty light in weight for how heavy power they are so the 6k will fit nicely
@@FLFlatsmaster Awesome, thanks for the reply!
I appreciate the fact your putting in the work to hoof it out there. 2 years ago after (Irma ?) so many damn hurricanes , I hoofed it out to the other walk in spot thats all rough w 3' holes. Honest to god, I thought I was going to have a heart attack. I was 58 at the time, had some stomach issues and dehydrated. Started cramping up and barely made it back. Glad to see it's not as bad as it was then. Good job out there.
Heck yeah!!! Great video
Any advice for me to find areas around Melbourne with clear water? All the water around here is so stained and I want to get into sight fishing
@@aidanobuck5779 I live and fish the west coast of FL. I’m not very familiar with that area. However, I would assume to look for areas close to Sebastian inlet. All of the water movement through there should be better clarity.

Great comment by francus7227: Spinning rods > fly rods Why? The fish doesn’t get overworked, and neither does the fisherman.👍
Spinning rods > fly rods
Very cool!
Not trying to give spots away, but are you near the airport? Looks familiar
@@HugoPerk not really, it’s south east Naples
@@FLFlatsmaster I gotcha. Just looked like a spot I tried next to the water treatment plant. It paid off.
It's been my experience that "land guys" will share their spots while "boat guys" are stingy..... What's weird is that it should be the opposite. Boat guys have hundreds of spots to share, and land guys might have only 10 if they're lucky. Here's my morals on "spot sharing.".... even though you never asked. 1) Community holes are open to share verbally or video. 2) If someone shows you a spot, you can use that spot, but you can not share it. 3) If you find a spot, you can keep it a personal secret or you can share it with whoever, and they need to follow rule #2 until you share it with so many people your spot becomes a community hole. Then rule #1 is back in play.
@@francus7227 Can’t argue with you there. I fish a little north of this young man so I’m not trying to infringe on his fishin holes. There’s plenty of fish down here and zero need to fight over them. We do have a boat but it’s more for inshore but hassle of taking it out just isn’t worth it some days. Especially when shore fishing down here can be just as good if you do some research and scouting. You from SWF?
@HugoPerk Jacksonville... Probably not as good as yall's, but PLENTY good.
Entered. Thanks for the opportunity !
How you liking the new camera mount?
@@CharlotteHarborFisherman it’s great! A lot more comfortable than the chest straps and I was surprised by how stable it was. It also rides a bit higher than the chest mount which get a better view for wading / shore fishing
can you drop these locations in been dying to catch some tarpon
Nobody drops fishing locations you put the work in and you find your own
@ you green asf them small ass tarpon
You should be a lot more careful when handling tarpon. Try to keep your hand out of their actual gill organs and make sure that you safely release them instead of tossing them. They are very delicate even though they are large and fight hard. Also try to keep them in the air as opposed to letting them flop around in the grass. This can damage their protective slime layer.
try using a stiffer rod and tighten your drag i like a 7'6 mh and 3k bg with 15lb braid for micro poons
@@Bigwalk787 I like 7’6 when flats fishing but it would be kinda hard to maneuver in some of these tight spots. I might get a 7’ mh to use for this. I also didn’t want to have the drag too tight cause I thought I would pull the lure out. What kind of 15lb braid do you use?
He won't have the room to cast for the trees

I will give it a try.👍 I’m still working on possible names: FishingFlorida with Don (?) FL-Fishing with Donnie (?) Can’t quite get a winner yet. FLFlatsmaster is definitely good, just trying to think of a name to get more viewers.
? FLFlatsMaster is this channel and we are supposed to vote for him in the giveaway. It's not for us to create names
@@alilo-da9153 I voted for him in the giveaway. His channel name is good, but I’m trying to help him get really Big on TH-cam in the future, because his videos are excellent. I’m trying to do Donnie a favor, and I’m not asking for anything in return. So stop acting like a fool when you don’t know the whole story!
@@alilo-da9153Maybe you’ve heard of: AnglerUp with Brant? He’s a Florida TH-camr with 282,000 subscribers. FLFlatsmaster (Donnie) creates videos that are just as good, and he just needs to attract more viewers, which would help him to earn more money on TH-cam. Just want to get some peoples opinions, please. Bull bay bolt or St. Croix avid inshore rod? Probably a 7’mf
@@tbirdsdign never used the bolt but I’ve felt it in store. It seems nice and I’ve heard good things. They have similar components so it will really come down to personal preference. Try to find a shop that carries them and feel them out. It’s worth noting that the 7ft medium st croix is 8-17 lb line and is going to be closer to the 7ft medium heavy bull bay. The medium power 6-12 lb bull bay rods are pretty light for what I like to do but it could be different for you depending on what you’re doing. Also, if this makes a difference, st croix avids are 100% made in USA. Bull Bay rods are assembled in the USA but they no longer roll their own blanks in house and get them from overseas somewhere. Both have excellent warranties I prefer st croix
@@FLFlatsmaster great info. Thank you. I did a lot of research recently and held them both today. Still can’t decide. lol. Mostly wading for reds and specks or casting in surf but an all around rod/reel. I’m used to st. Croix also. But you’re right, I should probably go with the one that feels better in my hand. I wish it was easier to find the weights of a rod. I’m not having good luck with that. Also debating over 3000 stradic or vanford. But man that sustain is sweet. There were reviews on the Banford have made a little leery about it. I could probably close my eyes in pick any of them and hopefully be happy. Regardless it will be the most I over spent on a rod n reel. YOLO‼️‼️🎣 And the banchee and sniper felt good to. lol
@@tbirdsdign you’re welcome. You really can’t go wrong with any rod or reel over $200. They’re all really nice. You definitely get what you pay for. A st croix avid 7ft medium and a 3000 stradic would be what I recommend out of those options. That’s a perfect combo for wade fishing. Unless you want to spend up for the sustain.
@@FLFlatsmaster thanks again. Liked and subscribed 👍🏻. Looking forward to watching older and upcoming content. Im buying them in next 2 days and going to Hatteras nc for a week. I’ll keep u posted.
