I’m an Ultra Marathon Runner, a Father, a Husband, and a full-time working Every Man. Life hasn’t always been easy-I'm battling Multiple Sclerosis and struggled with being unhealthy and overweight. But I made a promise to myself: I would change my life and my future health.
And here I am.
This channel is my backpack, where I will unpack my adventures. You’ll find me training, racing, and pushing my limits in ultramarathons. But it’s not just about physical challenges; I thrive on mental growth too. I set myself ambitious goals that stretch me, forcing me to improve in every way.
In 2023, I took my running to another level. I ran every single day of the year, averaging over 100 kilometers per week.
I believe in striving to be better every day. And I want to inspire those around me to do the same.
Let’s look back at the inspiring year that was 2023. And together, let’s embrace the unfolding adventure that 2024 promises to be.
Join me-I promise it’ll be a journey worth following.

1 Day Work Trip | VLOG | Plus Early Morning Run Around MCG
With only short notice, my work sent me on a trip interstate to Melbourne for a ONE day conference.
Follow along as I VLOG the 27 hour experience and watch what Backpack Guy does with his time away (Run of course...).
This was my first time Vlogging outside of a running event, let me know in the comments how I did. This video is a preview into some of my future Vlogging style videos, some already filmed and others on the horizon.

Attempting to run a sub 3:30 marathon - 5 Weeks after Injury - Adelaide Marathon
มุมมอง 172หลายเดือนก่อน
After some amazing performances at both The Great Ocean Road 60km Ultramarathon and Ultra Adelaide 100km, I decided to test my self at the Adelaide Marathon. However 5.5 weeks out I tore a trendon in my foot. With some hard work and good recovery practices, I was back to running. But could I pull off the sub 3:30 Marathon time I had originally set out to do? Music Energy Music I Use: Bensound.c...
Trail Running SA - 23KM Mt Crawford 2023
มุมมอง 157หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video I enjoy Trail Running SA’s 23km Mount Crawford Long Course in August 2023. With some solid hills, beautiful views and a fun last section on a boardwalk, this is always one of my favourite trail runs of the year. I was 3 weeks post injury (torn tendon in ankle), so I wasn’t sure how the day would unfold, tune in to the end to see how I finished up. Also I am very proud that my wife...

Meet Backpack Guy: Unpacking Self-Improvement and Running
Hi Bart, These videos are a real problem for me... I cant help but look for an event to sign up too after watching them! Keep up the good work :)
Congratulations!Excellent job!🎉
Great video, Bart! Type 2 fun personified.
Thanks mate, great way to put it. 🤣
Great race mate! Good to watch and see how the day went. Did well to persevere through those tough patches, especially Myponga. Almost time to go again!
Thanks Brett, I always try to learn and grow from every event I do, and recording them gives me a better perspective to view then through. We'll see what this year brings 💪🤜
My dry sense of humour didn't always land. 🙃🚫😂 Well done, Bart - you've really shared your journey from the inside out. It's definitely motivating to go out and try something hard.
Thanks for being a part of it, at least this year you will be more prepared after watching yourself on this video 😁😜
Which ultra are you doing this weekend? I enjoyed the vlog. Watched it yesterday. The only thing about posting videos from the past is it’s hard to know when it was and what you are up to now. So probably more recent videos 😁
Yeah I have a backlog of a years worth of events that I'm just struggling to catch up on. About 6 ultras plus a bunch of smaller events. I will hopefully be able to catch up a bit over the next couple of months. This weekend is Yurrebilla 56km. We have Heysen 105 in about a month so the next video going up is Heysen last year and then I am going to try and smash out a few as quick as possible. 👌
@@BartCampbellBackpackGuy fantastic! Sounds good. Enjoy Yurrebilla this weekend. Looking forward to the next video 😁
Nice voice crack at 14:40
🤣 Did you notice that the bag copied my sound straight after.
Nice vlog :)
Thank you, it was harder work than I thought it would be but it was fun to make.
Is this a course you can run anytime of the year or are some areas only open for race day? Thanks
Hi Gabrielle, this course is pretty open, a couple of road crossings and a reasonable section along a dirt farm road, but good visibility. I run it every week or two for training. Interestingly, they are going to make it an official half marathon distance next year and have asked me to do training videos for the event 😁👌 Below is my Strava link for the run. strava.app.link/eJLMQr2gNMb
Hope you get better stay Strong 💪
Thanks Jeff, I'm getting "Better Everyday" 😉🤜
What happened?
He was doing a run at night and tripped over a large branch and face planted. All you have to do is click on their page and scroll until you see it.

You okay...?
Yeah I fell over a tree branch on my Sunday long run a week ago and smashed my face on road. 6 stitches, some facial wounds and a very sore neck. But no major injuries or broken bones. Still ran 16kms home and still running everyday (613 days straight and counting).
Ouch
Check it on after I did it th-cam.com/users/shortsQbcNgTCtqGs?feature=share
Oh no! Hope you are ok. Did anything g need stitches? Hope you didn’t break your nose 😢
I'm ok, didn't break the nose, 6 stitches and 7 hours at the hospital. Neck is really sore, CT scan all clear though. I'll be sore for a while and I won't look very pretty in my vids but I'll keep moving. Thank you for the care. 🤕👍
Another epic thing ticked off that bucket list. Well done 👏🏼 😘
It's a long list, but I'm an ultramarathoner so I'm all about putting in the time to tick them off
Nice work! Road marathons are definitely the toughest running event you can do.
Definitely the toughest on your body per hour of running time.
Well done Bart!
Thanks Lisa
Thanx Bart, I look forward to all your videos! You're an inspiration to us all. Gibbo, Mad Aussie Adventures
Thanks Gibbo, I've been checking out some of yours, great job.
I’m working toward my first trail run. Loving your content since seeing you at UA 2024. I crewed for a friend and we saw you at the river Torrens aid station 😁 Thankyou for the inspo!
Thank you for the amazing comment, I'm doing what I love and thought it would be a good idea to share it with the world and if a few people are inspired to be a little bit better then I've done my job. So thank you for letting me know that I am on the right track. 👍😁
Great video Bart. Keep grinding. You’re a top bloke. Wish you well for up coming event next couple weeks 👍👍
Thanks heaps, I'm just doing the best I can and hoping it makes some kind of difference to someone. And thank you, I'm pretty pumped for the next few weeks. 👍
Great video bart!
Thanks Chris
Big effort Bart! No doubt you will reach your 100m goal soon.
Thanks mate, I just registered for Ultra Adelaide 100 Miler this morning...... So it's happening, just gotta train hard for it. 👍
So keen to see how you go! All the best, safe and happy trails 😊 hope to see you out there
Thank you, I feel really good, just gotta try and get to sleep.
@@BartCampbellBackpackGuy no pressure 😴
Thanks for sharing the run....I didn't work up a sweat but I got cramp at the 5 k mark....but I persevered from my armchair! .I am glad you explained the time difference, as I thought I was going to have to break some bad news that it was 19h 33s. Well done Bart...a lesson in true grit and determination. Hope this weekends 100 miler is as successful and rewarding for you.
Thank you, those are the kind of reviews I love reading. I feeling good things about this weekend, and there will be an awesome video coming for this one. 👍
This has been an incredible video mate. Well done!
Thanks heaps, I'm really passionate about doing them well and getting better each time I make one so I'm glad you have enjoyed it and I hope you enjoy the future ones even more.
Amazing to watch, hopefully ill follow your footsteps in a year or 2. What basic training regime do you follow during a week if you don't mind ?
I will be doing some videos on the channel soon which we detail how I train. But I'm a big believer in consistency over quantity. I believe that you are better to do really regular small runs over less often big runs (obviously over time you can build the individual run distances based on your physical capabilities and life circumstances). Vary up the types of runs (hills, fast, trails, road etc), I try to do this regularly. And lots of recovery running (low heart rate). I have run every day for over 500days straight and a huge key is that a lot of my runs are actually recovery runs, so I am recovering quicker than if I just took a rest. Obviously there is a lot more detail to it it but I hope that gives you some insight. Check out my Strava to see some of what I am doing. (The last couple of weeks might look a bit odd as my household is a bit hectic so I'm just doing what I can) 🤜😁
Unreal thanks for that, yea looks like I’ll just have to get more runs in ! Looking forward to your future videos!
😮 hope it all goes very well, take care
Thanks Kym, I'm feeling pretty confident as its all coming together.
Well done Bart, great effort.
Thanks Sylvia, it was a big effort but I had fun making this one.
💪🏼🏃🏼♂️
Thanks
Good luck mate, insane stuff
Thanks, yeah it's gonna be a challenge but I'm up for it.
Man I can't even imagine doing the stuff you do, keep up the hard work dude, the grind never stops 💪
Well done! Thanks for recording this, I really appreciated it as I’m doing the 50k for the first time this year. Being interstate helped me see what some of the trail looked like.
My pleasure, you will love it. I run a lot of ultras and trail runs and this is one of the highlights of my year.
Fantastic to watch and a brilliant heads up as I’ve this coming up and not run 100km before. Great vid and congratulations on such a strong effort!!
Enjoy it Paul. It is true test of grit and determination but so fulfilling and fun. Be in the moment and enjoy the whole thing no matter how you are feeling at the time.
@@BartCampbellBackpackGuy Thankyou so much for your advice.. one thing more.. you took a wrong turn the first year.. do you find the route well marked or easy to go off track? Many thanks 😊
WELL done you❤😊
Thank you. I'm really enjoying making these videos, especially learning new skills to make them better each time. Enjoy. 😁
@@BartCampbellBackpackGuy your vids are awesome
Great video Bart. I'm doing the Ultra Adelaide 100 this year and Ima be real I'm a little nervous now seeing all that bloody water at the start. You're lightyears quicker than me - you even have a Sonic the hedgehog mode 31:18 😆 I appreciate the video, it's great fuel for my own ultra passion, wish you all the best.
Thanks Rick, we are all somewhere on this journey I felt the same way when I ran my first 100k ultra but the important thing is to not worry about speed or placing but just enjoy it. It's gonna be tough but it's also gonna be fun, and if you can just take your time and finish at YOUR pace it's an amazing achievement. I'm looking forward to seeing you out there.🤜
Awesome job mate :-) Legend
Thanks Darren, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Amazing video mate and an awesome run. I've signed up for this years and was already keen, but am even more excited after watching your vid 👌
That's awesome to hear, it's a great run. Look forward to seeing you out there. 🤜
Epic video Bart. So proud xx
Thanks Bec, I couldn't do it without you.
Nice work. Your girl is a runner!
Yep, I'll be chasing after her for years 😁
Well done Bart.
Thanks heaps.
Good on you mate, pleasure to make your acquaintance 👍 (subbed)
Thanks Steve, I was really encouraged by our conversation today. 👌
Groovy
Thanks mate, I'm looking forward to posting it when it's done.
I am so proud of you Bart❤️❤️
Thanks Salman
Love the style of your videos. Very heartwarming
Thanks Jacob, I'm working on that balance of heartwarming, interesting and hopefully inspiring. I've got some great ideas for upcoming videos, so keep an eye on this space.
Happy 40th Bart 🎉 beautiful family you’re a great dad. 😀🫵🪨
Thanks so much
Happy 40th Birthday Legend. Awesome achievement mate, well done 😎
Thanks Darren

Can't wait, thank you.

Awesome, looking forward to seeing you.
Stoked to have these vids as a reference for what I got infront of me at the next events, legend
