Awesome video! Im doing this trip from Massachusetts and back in July of 2025. Riding both directions. How many nights did you book in advance for your hotel stops? Im thinking once I get onto the Alcan I should have reservations for each night ahead of time? Also my thinking for Dalton was two days up, and one day back to Fairbanks. Sounds like youve done several 600 mile days on your trip, is doing the Dalton in one stretch not a good idea?

Congrats on making the trip. I rode from Phoenix, AZ to Prudhoe Bay and back in 2022. I was on a Pan Ameriica Special and my friend was on an Utra Limited Low. We lucked out when we rode the Dalton: three days of clear, dry weather. It was the trip of a lifetime.

What was the total cost of the trip?

Oncoming trucks hurl a lot of rocks off their tires, especially when the road is greasy with mud. Wear your gear and stay behind a fairing. Anyone considering a bike run on the Dalton would be best off with an ADV type bike. It can be done on anything that rolls, but...

I saw these comments about the metal grid bridges and have to say, they seem pretty squirrelly and scary the couple times I’ve ridden on them. I want to take a trip through Montreal and Quebec on my ‘03 Electra-Glide. I grew up in Michigan until I was 10. I seem to remember on our trips to the UP that the Mackinac bridge was steel grate back in the ‘60’s. Gives me the heebe-jeebes just dreaming about that portion of the trip!

Can I ask the body of viewers this question? I have friends with chemical engineering degrees and they would consider your bike “totaled” due to the caustic nature of the calcium chloride used on the road. Any other chemical engineers out there with an opinion? Would any of you hesitate to purchase a used bike you know went up that road? TIA. Ride safe everyone!

That's amazing. I did this ride in 2022 on a Harley Pan America. I did it in May-June because that is the drier season, but it was cold (17 degrees F). I'm doing it again in 2025 on a BMW GS Adventure. The fact that you did it on that bike just cracks me up.

I plan to do this ride next summer, Not too jazzed about running back to deadhorse as I have done it 4 times over the years. Easy trip form Anch. I think my best time fairbanks to deadhorse was 12hrs. in 2009. Your right doing on an adventure bike!

Best advice for riding a Harley up the Daulton…don’t. Wrong tool for the job, it’s never going to be the same after, and you were very lucky to make it without wrecking the bike and yourself. Someone commented on a channel about how he was going to take his CVO street glide up the Daulton. It’s like bruh, got any idea what you are getting into? Obviously not. And you really want to ruin your $40000 CVO? I hope he changed his mind because yeah stupid idea.

In 1986 I rode a yamaha XS 1100 Key West to Portland Ore and back. Now 72 and making plans to ride a XVS 1300 Michigan to Seattle on " The Great Northern Road" ( US 2 ). Ride till you can't.

The road west from Mackinac city, Hwy 2, is known as "The Great Northen Road". It is the longest road in America and runs Boston to Seattle. I am planning a trip on it with my XVS 1300 next spring.

How bad were the mosquitoes the entire time you were in Canada in Alaska?

My ride to Deadhorse was a great adventure. Did it with 4 others. Rode my BMW GS1150 Adventure. The temp was just above freezing most of the time.

With the gas, I noticed that with different brands I will get really good or really bad gas mileage. It depends on what additives and how much alcohol is in the gas. Look up Top Teir Fuel, it will list the gas companies that put more than just the bare minimum of additives and cleaners in their fuel that the government requires. I would test my mileage with different brands, find the one that I get the best milage from and try to stick with that.

Thanks for sharing. I plan a similar trip on my 2024 road glide spring of 2025. You might find a trip to Radisson, Quebec less of a challenge but as interesting. Loads of friendly people and good Canadian camping.

Its not as complicated as you made it out to be. I rode from TX to Tuk via the Dempster. 10K round trip in 20 days. Used one set of tires. Who ships their bike home? Props for using a HD to do it, that wouldn't have been my choice bike. I know the Dalton can be sketchy on any bike let alone road designed HD.

You shoul have taken a Kawasaki KLR650 up to Alaska. I have a 2010 Electra Glide and a 2008 Kawasaki KLR650 (a street legal dual sport bike with a 6 gallon gas tank with a 300 mile range) that I trail ride over in the Oscelo National forest in North Floida (where 75 crosses 10). I've ridden my Harley down sandy dirt roads a few times, in the mud it would be a nightmare. Next time your passing though Lake City, Fl. look me up and I'll let you ride my KLR around in the mud over in Osceola, you'll love it!

Man I love your bike what year is it? I’m saving money to buy a good reliable Harley like yours. I love how it started right up in the middle of the desert when you were eating. I will have a new Harley by April or sooner mark my comment on hood ❤

Loved the video! WV Native here and actually live right on the Talon in Ansted, a few minutes from Hawks Nest. Glad you guys enjoyed our routes! They have been working on the roads a lot this year so should be much smoother riding next year. Stay safe!

I have a question about the dominator solo seat. Hopefully, you can shed some light on it. So i have the same bike as in your video, and when looking at the seat on the saddleman website it doesnt look like it has the tongue part on the front of the seat that would usually go in a hole in the frame just before the gas tank. So my question is, mainly, did the seat come with hardware to put it on the bike properly, or did you need to get an additional bracket to have the seat on the bike?

Looking at using the Saddleman Dominator for my limited obviously you like it.

Rode the Dalton in 2020. Awesome scenery! Like they say the Dalton is 400 miles of dirt road and 50 miles of sheer terror. But what an experience. Biggest lesson learned: no matter the road conditions, you need to keep your speed 30-40 mph. This is fast enough to keep the bike heading the right direction. Slower, and the front tire will want to slip and slide. Seems counterintuitive and takes a bit of huevos, but once you try it, it really makes it much easier.
