Grandma tales. Lard from the roasting pan was kept to do a secondary meal..spread on toast..(this could also be what is in the pan when cooking chops) Oxo cubes became a meal as well - soup, sometimes with bread. Would be interesting to hear some of the grandma tales. It could be handy information on the onset of catastrophes causing food shortages.

I remember living for 3 weeks off dry weetbix, and i had to limit it to make it last. I was doing it hard before then, so it wasnt an easy time. I hate thinking how it must be for those having to do it much longer. Thankyou for this. I am just beginning my garden. Helpful information.

To have plenty of Arugula seeds I got 8oz of sprouting seeds for about the same as a 1 gram seed pack. I scattered them around before a recent rain. In winter I grow a lot of leafy greens in my lawn. I feed the birds here so I plant sunflowers for the bees from the bird seeds. I also planted sprouting clover seeds this fall for the pollinators next year. The droughts and bad freezes we`ve had killed all the clovers in my yard. The wild bunnies will be happy about the clover too. They don`t bother my garden if I plant a few things for them around the edge of the yard.

However it will make it so people who actually need fidgets can't use them now

I planted White Dutch Clover in my lawn for the bees and bunnies this fall because last year the drought wiped it out. It`s edible but can contain cyanide but if it does you can taste the bitterness. I got cheap bulk Daikon Radish & Rutabaga seeds meant for deer food plots to plant in my garden. We have Crimson Clover growing nearby along the highway and it was in my lawn but I`ve mowed a lot to use the grass clippings to build soil in my garden and mulch my fruit trees and it didn`t survive that and the drought. I ordered a lawn seed variety pack with 3 types of clover but it never arrived so I just planted the 4oz of White Clover. It should do best in my lawn. I live in a hurricane zone so I got backup solar with the stimulus for my fridge, freezer, fans, rice cookers and air conditioning when I sleep, lots of portable multi-band radio receivers, water storage, filters & distiller and lots of stored food staples I can cook in my low wattage rice cookers. I`m also slowly converting my lawn into gardens and fruit trees. I may have overdone it with over a dozen fig & mulberry trees this year but I plan to dehydrate what I can`t freeze or eat fresh plus I have extra just in case for future chicken feed. I always plant way more than I need in case of crop failures and pests.

If they look deflated that means they were not properly pollinated. The tree needs another pollinator tree.

If they don’t have tassels they are not edible. If they have tassel then you can eat them.
