    I think Michele is irreplaceable and has built up a certain Gucci’s image which is indissoluble linked to his creative fascinating imaginary and inner world. The Pinault and Kering Group greed have cut a brilliant path that was making the most important revolution in the fashion world from its very bases in the last century. Fashion reflects the mood of the world and Michele’s concepts were expressed not only in amazing fashion shows of unimaginable beauty but also with work-of-the-art outfits in terms of craftsmanship, passion and perfection, introducing the public into the future without forgiving the past. It would be a hard work for the Gucci brand to maintain their financial records without the creative input of a real star in this mysterious but fascinating creative world

      Hi @clotipi! Thanks for your comment and you are absolutely right that Alessandro Michele has an incredible talent for interpreting the mood of the world, and translating that into expressions of fashion and lifestyle that are both innovative and high in quality. Still too early to tell how successful Gucci will be under the new Creative Direction of Sabato De Sarno, but he does have an impressive background with Prada and Valentino.

      @@lifecycleproject I wish all the best to Sabato De Sarno and all the Gucci team as well. I met him at Prada some time ago and he seems to be an extremely creative and beautiful person! @@clotipi You are absolutely right again. Unfortunately the name of the game is $$$ for the owners. I saw when I worked in Bottega Veneta that as soon as the profit level started to flatten off, Kering began to impose drastic cuts in all sorts of areas, starting with communication, but also in terms of staff. Let's hope that the new team enjoy enough creative freedom to make the financial side work too !

      The bottom line is of course the 'reason why' of fashion, but you still need that creative flame to hold the interest of the public. In my opinion innovation in art is dead and has been for a very long time (not since the advent of Pop Art. Everything since makes a mockery of anyone who is a real artist. Art is not anything and everything, it is not something created by AI either. Society will someday reset itself and old trends will repeat and society will find itself rediscovering what it has lost. In the meanwhile art will remain a perfect means through which billions of dollars derived from global arms and drug trade is siphoned back into the money pool - criminals will keep doing crime and the rich will keep getting richer and it’ll al be legitimised through the facilitation and sale of so called art. Degeneracy at its finest. Ask yourself why is the global arts industry worth more than every sport organisation combined and far more than the literary and film industries combined with sports et? It’s all the black market money being laundered through the investment in art no matter how degenerate it is.

    • @lifecycleproject
      @lifecycleproject ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm curious to know in what way you suggest that Kering are DISGRACED ? Is it that weird Balenciaga ad scandal ? I see Kering as being just like any other major luxury business group. They look for opportunity, grow brands that have potential and pull the plug on those that don't. Balenciaga is clearly a brand that has all the glamour, the heritage and the recognition to reach great heights as St.Laurent have done in the past 8 years. Individual brands often make BIG mistakes as Dolce & Gabbana also did with a very ill-considered Chinese ad, but these are glitches. Disgrace suggests a deep and consistent pattern of bad behaviour or ethical malpractice. I personally didn't notice that when I worked for them.

      @Skitguy1 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lifecycleprojectKERING killed gucci because it was being too creative and artsy. even tho the sales were good they became greedy and wanted the brand to be more commercial. Thats why we gen Z love going to vintage stores because we yearn for retro futurism.

    • @lifecycleproject
      @lifecycleproject ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Skitguy1 There is truth in what you write here that the owners only care about their profit margins. Smart owners however, also understand that good creatives are the energy that drives those profit margins up, so they fight like hell to hire the best available. I'm afraid that your assertion that Kering 'killed' Gucci however, is pure nonsense. You don't set out to 'kill' a 10 billion turnover cash cow like Gucci because they are 'too creative and artsy'. With all the best will in the world, it's a little more complex than that.

      You make a valid point Boomboomdaboomboom. What's next is anybody's guess, and unfortunately I don't have a crystal ball, or fly-on-the-wall access to Marco Bizzarri's office. For sure, the future will be dictated by the past in any case, so that past is incredibly relevant. ALL brands build their future to include the DNA of their past. Alessandro's trick, was to interpret that in an innovative way. My guess is that they will try to consolidate what is working best for them, and return to a Tom Ford style, giving Gucci RTW a more mainstream but nevertheless 'sexy chic' appeal. Don't rule out the arrival of a French designer at Gucci. If they could poach someone like Nicolas Ghesquière that would be a feather in the Pinault cap. We do however need to differentiate between 'movements' and 'categorisations' in art history, which is effectively what 'modernism' is. A label applied afterwards, by art historians. All that I'm doing here, is advocating that a new category, recognising common characteristics, timelines and narratives, i.e. Retromodernism, has a place in in art history. It is by definition, a small part of the future of art, at least for as long as I choose to make videos highlighting my interpretation of a phenomenon we see all around us on a daily basis.

    Super stimulating piece here Angus! It made me think about my world which is music. AI is making inroads into generating music for Ads etc where the client doesn't want a 'known' piece, and is worried about copyright infringement if they get someone like me to do some work for them, and it turns out I either inadvertently or deliberately copied/allowed myself to be influenced by/just sounded a bit too similar to an existing piece. This is fertile ground for lawyers - "where there's a hit there's a writ" seems to be the motto for a swathe of the LA legal community, IA music generation is thought to get around this - but its early days. I loved Leila Nazarian's skateboards - now thinking of appropriating the idea for an electric guitar body!.

I still think that these 'virtual' experiences are great for newcomers to art, if... there is sufficient material to allow people to follow up and learn more. It' can't be just 'spoon-fed' art.

    Covid.. a kick in the balls to consumerism… disruption of the supply chains has been pleasing,…. Except of course when I ran short of certain artists supplies… the big picture, of course, is the civilizational collapse that commenced in 1906…

      Hoping to get more content out in the not too distant future, but in the meantime, Retromodernism is really all around in a variety of disciplines from auto design, to architecture, interior design and so on. Thank yo for your comment and stick with us !

    Might be a mistake to assume that artists are great thinkers…. Art schools are surely full of those no good for anything else… intellectual dullards… their only goal today to be sufficiently different enough to be noticed… mmmm…

      I do agree with you. And as long as there are gallerists desperate to sell whatever they can, there with always be an ample supply of thoughtless trash. Just as in music, film, photography and many other disciplines. Just shocking or 'standing out' is a neat trick for Instagram, but not really lasting don't you think ?

    was so enjoying this until the music started. it irritated me so much I was distracted from your talk then had to turn it off. do you have a version without the music please?

    • @retromodernism1799
      @retromodernism1799 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Susan, sorry to hear that you found the music distracting. I've made the same comment myself on other people's content. I try to keep it as low as possible so that it's there as a texture, but not overwhelming. It's a delicate balance. Without music, it sounds very empty. Anyway... iteration. Do please stick with us and there will be an update on this particular video around Xmas time.

    Great video! I sincerely hope NFTs are not the future of art. It feels almost dystopian in a way that a piece of art could be stripped down to a digital code and then auctioned off solely by its financial prospects. I see NFTs as the next step in the commodification of art--but they seem almost unstable in a way, being based on various blockchains that use massive amounts of energy. I predict cryptocurrency will either have to die off or adapt to the future, because world governments will probably get tired of missing out on all that taxable income! China already banned many facets of interests regarding crypto. Maybe a whole movement of art will be created in rejection of this commodification! I would certainly like to be a part of that. And I will ask anyone willing to answer, how does one break away from the simple commodification of art--to treat art like art and not capital?

      Thanks to you for your encouragement and for your point of view. I hope this channel will bring discussion and debate. (Sorry too for not answering as quickly as I should have). I personally think that NFT will be around for a while, but they represent a very fragile financial instrument. Probably more interesting to crypto fans than art lovers !

    I have some question what you think about NFT art?

    • @retromodernism1799
      @retromodernism1799 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Wattana, really curious that you ask this question as the next video to come out will be on NFTs ! My view is that it's really all about people who want to speculate on a market. Mostly Crypto people are buying in. It is still a good opportunity for good digital artists to monetize their back catalogues, and there is some really good work out there. There's also a lot of rubbish, so no different to the art market in that sense.

    Interesting to see how Koons has not only appropriated the painting of the great masters, but how he has appropriated one of their idiosyncratic techniques - that of Itrompe l'oeil into his works with the shelf and the ball ...he has risen in my estimation in this fascinating film - thank you!

      I think that he's a product of the art market. That said, art history is full of artists who have employed assistants to complete works or even churn them out Warhol / Murakami style. Think back to Albrecht Durer selling prints of woodcuts too. It's a long long story!
