When I saw the kitten lying on the ground, I wasn't sure if it was still alive, but the mother's desperate cries broke my heart. She was pleading with me to save her child. My memory was instantly awakened; the mother cat was a stray in the community, and I had fed her before. I knew I couldn't stand by. I went home to get a basin of warm water, and when my grandfather learned of the situation, he came downstairs with me. We tried various methods to save the kitten, while the mother stayed motionless beside her baby.

As a feral cat volunteer, it’s always heartwarming to see a stray find the right person to go up to who has the compassion to give them a chance. Most people can’t afford the vet bills these folks must have endured, though, and although it’s wonderful that kitty was able to keep the leg, amputation isn’t the worst option. Tripods can get around just as well. But thank you to these fantastic people who changed that sweet cat’s life!
