Have you heard dark ambient ? Ambient in general has many characteristics of that “spinning fan aww such a beautiful music” vibe no wonder ambient is a big part of shoegaze. People constantly compare shoegaze sounds to a vacuum, and sometimes the heavy fuzz really does hit like one. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter if music is composed of “sounds” as longs as those sounds are arranged in a pleasant or rather interesting way. You’re not really redefining music as is, in most people minds there’s a heavy dichotomy between music and noise, and honestly it’s not part of the mainstream to perceive “noises” as particularly musical. You’ll be looking at very experimental music that follows more of a abrasive or loose pattern, like with Merzbow, Yellow swans, les rallizes denudes for the lines of noise to music to truly blur. Nirvana has nothing on those fools. Even Bjork did a whole a cappella album (medulla) no one in their right mind wouldn’t call that album music just because it’s mostly made of voices.
