Yes!! I feel like you might really enjoy that one! 💕
My favorite book this year was definitely "Middlegame" by Seanan McGuire. I read it back in February or March, and I STILL can't stop thinking about it. It also reminded me why I love her as a writer and got me going through her backlist (I'm slowly making my way through her October Daye series, which started in like 2010). In 2025, I'm definitely going to prioritize finishing the series I've already started, but also using KU and Libby to my advantage. Case in point, I bought "Empire of the Vampire" over the summer and tried to read it, but I got 500 pages in and gave up because I was so sick of the misogyny and every female character either dying or used as a love interest. And it happened with several popular books, so I want to use KU and Libby to try them first without paying -because living in Japan, I'm essentially paying double the price of their home country.
You’ve just reminded me to add Seanan McGuire to my 2025 priority list! I’ve had her books on my “want to read” shelves for years and for some reason haven’t picked them up yet! I’m gonna start with Middlegame going by your comment! I’m so guilty of not only buying physical but also the kindle and audio of so many books this year that ended up so mid…. Or even bad! Really need to get better with that in 2025! It’s so hard though because what if I miss the SE for my favourite ever book 😂😂 - no we will be better in 2025! 💕💕
such a fun video! ❤
Thank you lovely! 💕💕
❤📚📚❤️ I enjoyed your tag answers. Yes, binging series! That's my 2025 goal. 😊
Thank you lovely! And honestly my brain does not retain enough detail to space them out as much as I do 😂 so 2025 is definitely the year for binging 💕💕
@Booksandmoe Amen and ditto!! 🤣😅
A novel love story really was disappointing 😢
Right! Like I don’t think it was bad necessarily but compared to her previous books, it just didn’t have that same impact for me 💕
So glad to have found a fellow book lover from Northern Ireland! I used to work for the Northern Ireland Bureau (British Embassy) in DC and I miss the accent. 🥰
Oh I love that!! So happy to meet you! Yeah our accent is pretty distinct 😂 and there don’t seem to be many of us in this corner of TH-cam 💕💕
Oooh what a lovely haul! Such beautiful books 🤩
Thank you so much lovely! 💕💕💕
Also, those editions of Broadbent's books are so stunning I could cry. That endpaper art!! I can't remember every book I hauled in November, BUT I did pick up some books yesterday since it was payday. I got "The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year," "A Boy Called Christmas" (loved the movie and wanted to read the book), "The Bear and the Nightingale," "Otherworldly" by F.T. Lukens, "Greenglass House," "My Vampire Plus One," and randomly decided to pick up the first two books in the "Realm of Fey" series by Ben Alderson -because I want an m/m romantasy, apparently, and the covers from Angry Robot are stunning.
What a great haul! I've seen so many people talk about "The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year" and saying it was so good! my TBR is so stacked this month but I really want to read it 😂 I recently read "The Bear and the Nightingale" and I really enjoyed it, the pacing is slow at times but overall I thought it was really good. You've now given me some inspo for books to look up as well, I went book shopping the other day and just didnt see much that was calling to me, I think i've put myself in a book buying slump (which probably isnt a bad thing lol) 💕
@@Booksandmoe Honestly, I mainly picked up MWCotY mainly because it combines Christmas and mystery, two of my favorite things. I'm just hoping I end up at least giving it a 3.5. Send that book buying slump my way, please, because there's WAY too many books (mostly older-ish ones) that I want to buy
that serpent edition is sooo cooooolllll
right! they are so pretty, the character art is so good! 💕
And now I want to go book shopping! What gorgeous editions!!
Do it! Treat yourself! 😂💕
I also have so many beautiful books in languages I cannot read! Good to know I’m not alone ❤
definitely not! As I say these editions wouldn't be read if they were in English anyway so thats how i'm justifying it 😂💕
i’m on a book buying ban so i’m vicariously living through you and this haul 😂😅
I love that! honestly I try to do bans but i end up just buying double when I'm out of it anyway. 😂💕
❤📚📚📚❤️
💕💕💕
oh this was SO COZY!!
Thank you lovely! ❄️☃️💕
You have me so excited to pick up Book of Azrael!
Yay! I hope you love it! I’ll admit the series has been a slow burn for me loving it but I’m so invested now! I love Dianna (the FMC) 💕
@ I just started Book of Azrael last night, and I already like it! It’s not perfect, but after the book I just DNF’d is a massive improvement when it comes the writing 🫢
I’m glad you’re enjoying it! I did take a while to really get into it but I’m so glad I stuck with it because the series really does open up over the next few books. You’ll have to let me know how you get on 💕💕
I've been really wanting to read Gideon the Ninth and am so glad you enjoyed it. For me when it comes to DNFing, I try to go by the 100 pages rule. If the book doesn't improve at that point, then I'll either choose to hard DNF or just put down temporarily to avoid a reading slump
That’s such a good rule! I’m so bad for DNfing, I usually end up reading the whole thing 😂 Gideon was so so good! Definitely didn’t think I would love it so much 💕
@@Booksandmoe DNFing is so hard, but if it helps avoid a potential reading slump then I'm 100% going to do it 😅 Totally understand! I feel like I've heard a lot of people express the same thing
Loving your festive reads!! I loved the Caraval series but haven't read Legendary yet! I'm excited to get my hands on it!
Legendary was my favourite book in the trilogy! I loved Donnatellas story, I hope you love it! 💕💕
you have singlehandedly encouraged me to continue gods & monsters
Yes!!! The second book started super slow but I’m so glad I pushed through because by the end of book 3 I’m so invested, I love it! 💕
love how festive and cozy this vlog was!! ❤🎄
Thank you so much lovely! 💕💕💕
great wrap up! i finished 10 books this month and my favorite was definitely Not In Love by Ali Hazelwood!
Thank you lovely! I’ve had that in my TBR basically since it came out 😂 I really need to pick it up! 💕
Great wrap up! You peeked my interest for Ever King, but I’ll try to read the first series by that author.
Thank you lovely! And yes it’s just a great romantasy read, definitely heavier on the romance but I actually enjoy the background plot alot in these ones 💕
I'm so excited to read "Songbird," but I can't until I actually get around to reading "Ashes and the Starcursed King"...which I've been putting off because I want to collect the books in hardback, but since I live in Japan we don't get those often, and the shipping takes forever T_T I had a few good reads in November, but the one I loved most (and took me by surprise) was "Don't Let the Forest In" by CG Drews. I didn't know I needed a Gothic fairytale about "two idiots who share one brain cell" (the author's words, not mine XD) fighting monsters in a forest instead of telling each other how they felt until I read it. But I also loved "Welcome to the Hyunam-dong Bookshop." The author did such a good job creating a cozy reading experience while still addressing the drama and troubles the characters were dealing with.
Yes you definitely need to read TAATSK before reading Songbird! I actually never read the novella Six Scorched Roses 🙈 I actually need to go back and read that. Ok I have just downloaded Don’t let the forest in on your recommendation! I’ve seen it everywhere and the cover is stunning, so you have me really intrigued! 💕💕
@@Booksandmoe I hope you enjoy DLTFI! It's definitely fitting a particular combination of things I didn't know I needed, but I couldn't put it down.
I’ve seen so many people saying the exact same thing 😂 but everyone I’ve seen who has read it, loved it! 💕
Gideon the Ninth is on my TBR as well. I ordered it for my library so I could read it before buying it. One of the bonuses to being the Library Director. >.<
I love that! I had actually checked it out on Libby like 5 times and it lapsed because I was intimidated 😂 but I’m so glad I finally read it! I hope you enjoy it! 💕
❤📚📚❤️ Great, it was a good reading month! My November was my first slump month.
Oh no! Honestly slumps are the worst as a reader because you really want to read but you just cannot get into anything! Hope your back in the groove of things now 💕💕
It’s so tough but I think I’m finally learning not to force myself to read books if I’m not feeling them. I want to read A Man Called Ov! I read Anxious People by him.
I’ve been trying so hard to DNF more but I always worry I’ll regret it! I haven’t regretted a DNF yet though 😂 but I’m not being too rigid with my TBRs, if I feel like reading them I will, if not I’ll go back to the shelves! I’ve heard great things about Anxious People, and Fredrick Backman in general so definitely want to pick up his books soon! 💕
Yes!!! I was holding my breath when you started Gideon the Ninth. I’m so happy you loved it! It’s one of my favourite series. The audiobooks are fantastic!
It was incredible, literally a book I didn’t want to put down and the audiobook was amazing! I cannot wait to read Harrow now (both Harrow and Nona were immediately purchased lol 💕
❤📚📚❤️
💕🫶🏼💕🫶🏼
I can't wait to see your reaction to "Harrow the Ninth." This series as my first real step into the sci-fi genre (at least with regards to space) and I fell in love with Gideon. It's made me want to read more sci-fi. If you haven't read "The Murderbot Diaries" by Martha Wells, you should definitely give them a try.
Ooh ok I’ve heard of this series and definitely had mentally put it in my “not for me” pile but I’ve definitely shut that pile down after Gideon the Ninth- it was incredible! And I cannot wait for Harrow as well! 💕
@@Booksandmoe Check and see if they have Murderbot on KU in your country? I know the US has the first four novellas and the first novel on there, and that's how I read it first. I was cackling (Murderbot is SO relatable to me) and at the same time my heart was melting a bit watching Murderbot's growth through the books. Haven't finished yet because I want to collect the series in hardcopy now, but I love what I've read so far!
Oh I’ll definitely check that out! And I think I may have seen them (or some of them) on Libby as well! I’ve heard great things about the series so hoping I’ll enjoy it as much as I did Gideon! 💕
That is a ginormous stack of books to get through 😆 Good luck!!
Thank you! I think I’m gonna need it lol 💕
@@Booksandmoe ❤ I definitely need to start reading more often again 😊. Especially more fantasy and some more sci Fi
This is excellent!
Thank you so much! 💕
@@Booksandmoe You're welcome!
So many great books 👀 I loved the Bear and the Nightingale. It’s a PERFECT book for the cold seasons. Happy reading!
Thank you lovely! I canny wait to dive in and read it, sounds like it’s pretty much everything I love in a book 💕💕
I really need to get "For the Throne," because I read "For the Wolf" earlier this year and really enjoyed the atmosphere of it. In December, I really only have one book I know I want to read in that month and it's "Make the Season Bright" by Ashley Herring Blake, a sapphic Christmas romance. Other than that, I'm just hoping to get more books off my physical TBR.
I’m on the hunt for a good Christmas romance so I’ll have to check that one out! I’m really trying to dwindle down my physical TBR as well because I just know there’s books on there that are 5 ⭐️ and I keep putting them off (also probably a lot that are very mid and I could donate to the library 😂) 💕
❤📚📚❤️ I hope you enjoy your whole December tbr. I loved Heartless by Marissa Meyer. If you loved Alice in Wonderland, I think you will, too.
Thank you so much lovely! I adore Alice in Wonderland so I think I’m going to love this 💕💕
@@Booksandmoe 🤗👍❤️
Good afternoon my dear friend
Hello lovely! 💕💕💕
I swear I watched this when it first dropped....I picked up the hardback of "Jonathon Strange" earlier this month, and to make it slightly less intimidating I'm planning to read it from January to March, reading one part (since it's separated into three) each month. For the rest of this year, I'm kind of prioritizing sequels I haven't read yet, and some of the many thrifted books I've picked up.
That’s a good idea to split it up! My problem is my memory is shocking so I’d forget the little details 😂 I think I can get the audio on Libby so might do a bit of immersive reading (if the narrator is good). I tried to make sure any sequels or series continuations were in my 10 before the end, and trying to not start too many new series- I have a physical TBR that is out of control so I really need to be reading from that as much as possible as well! 💕
I'm not a Shakespeare fan (at least of his plays), but I did read "Macbeth" recently because I wanted to have the plot in mind when I eventually read "Lady Macbeth." So I can accurately say in the original play, her biggest role is as the one who convinces Macbeth to kill the king in order to take his place. There's nothing about her history or personality other than that, so I'm sure plenty of liberties were taken by Reid XD
😂 yeah I read Shakespeare in school and have never picked one up again - I remember liking them but just never been inclined to reread any of them lol And yes, it was a reimagining I believe rather than a retelling but I was just hoping for more….something 😂 I don’t really know what it was it just fell a little flat for me overall but the writing was good so I felt bad giving it less than 4 (also benefit of the doubt since I was slumping) 💕
Frank(?) stole the show! What a sweetheart!! Yay! So glad you enjoyed Warbreaker! Mistborn didn’t work for me either, but Stormlight Archive did. I do hope you take the leap and pick up The Way of Kings one day I love seeing all the UK covers 😍 It’s so hard to go into a bookshop and not walk out with 10 new books. I hope you get out of your slump soon
Right! He’s always trying to get into the shot and I mean with his little face, how can I say no 😂 I’m so excited to start The Way of Kings, seen a few friends start and love it so I’m definitely motivated to pick them up! I physically cannot leave a bookstore without a book 😂😂 it makes me so sad if I can’t find anything lol Think I’m kinda out of my slump now so fingers crossed it stays away! 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼💕💕💕
❤📚📚❤️ I'm looking forward to Warbreaker. Lady Macbeth was a disappointment for me. I gave it three stars, it was okay, but not the best.
Yeah I totally agree, it’s not as memorable as I felt a study in drowning was, I do want to read more from her though. And Warbreaker was so good! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts! 💕
@Booksandmoe Yes, I enjoyed A Study in Drowning more. 🤗
Lots of great books 👀 You make me want to jump back into the Shadow Hunter world. So nostalgic ❤
Do it!! Even if you have to pick one, the infernal devices - I’ll never be over that trilogy 😭💕
❤📚📚❤️ I love the tombs in winter! Enjoy!
Thank you! And yes something about winter makes me want to read all my chunky books 😂💕
Lots of chunky ones! ❤
Yes! Something so satisfying about reading a really chunky book 😂💕
I’m currently reading Long Live Evil and quite enjoying it.
I’m so glad you’re enjoying it! I did start it and soft dnf’d it because I was feeling slumpy and it wasn’t quite working for me, but I’ve seen so many people saying they love it so definitely going to pick it up again 💕
For The Wolf starts off Little Red Riding Hood inspired but gave strong Beauty and the Beast vibes
Ah ok that makes sense because the cover is definitely giving Little Red Riding Hood vibes 😂💕
Omg your intro! You’re so good Maria!! I have to make mine like this next time we do this. ❤
Aw thank you! Just wanted to make sure you all got a shout out ☺️💕
we’ll get that 5 star next time😂 but thanks for letting me pick your read! 💕
I’m still holding out for a 5⭐️ in this series! I feel like we’re just getting started in this instalment. Thank you for making me finally pick it up! 💕💕
I always love finding new booktube channels ❤️ I read Steel and Blood recently and dnf’d it for similar reasons 😖 If you continue on with the series I will be following closely. If your ratings go up I might consider picking it back up again. Great video 🥰
Thank you lovely! And yes these girls are all so lovely and have great channels so definitely check them out! I will definitely be reading on so I’ll let you know how I get on! 💕💕
I NEED to read this immediately !
I feel like you’ll enjoy this one for sure! Was a pretty solid first instalment 💕💕
@ I need to read my book club picks for the month but as soon as that’s over I’m running to read this 🏃🏻♀️➡️🏃🏻♀️➡️
Yay! New Booktube people to follow! Thank you, I have followed them all. As a solo librarian, it helps to watch a variety of people since even though I would love to, I can't read everything. Booktube is the biggest help to Reader's Advisory.
Oh wow I didn’t even think of that as a resource, that’s so cool! And good thing is we all have slightly different taste so they will definitely give you some different books to reference. 💕💕
So many great recommendations !!! I’ve loved so many of these books ❤
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed loved some of these as well! They are some of my all time faves 💕
