I was stationed at Kadena in the early 80's. Holy cow has Gate 2 / BC changed. I'm pretty sure whisper alley isn't there anymore. I wonder how so much change occurred (seemingly for the negative). Loved the music bars... can't remember my favorite..... it was downstairs on the left side. And the Kobe beef off from one of the side streets on the right hand side. It's hardly recognizable now.

2:29 Ainu was recognized in 2008 「アイヌ民族を先住民族とすることを求める決議」 so your sentence is either WRONG.or outdated. I don't know when and where you get that However, Japanese government REFUSES to recognize ethnicity of Ryukyuan people despite warning from UN council (google "Observations on the State of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in the Ryukyus in Japan" by UN human council ") . I think you SHOULD use to the term "Ryukyuan 琉球民族” as well. "Okinawa" is a name given by Yamato 大和民族 (main ethnicity in Japan) and Okinawa used to be called Ryukyuan Kingdom (琉球王国) Ryukyuan and Ainu are like Native American who used to occupy entire main land. However, people from Korean peninsula came to Japanese and split this indigenous people into 2 groups. The one who fled to north became Ainu, and the other fled to south eventually became Ryukyuan. (image google "渡来人の拡散と日本列島人の形成:国立科学博物館(緑が縄文人、茶が渡来系弥生人") This indigenous people had "culture of Tatoo" which Yamato do not have. And they protected this Tathoo culture until Meiji era when government illegalized Tatoo for both AInu and Ryukyuan people (刺青禁止令 in 1899). Have you heard of 魏志倭人伝? Chinese record around 3rd AD specially describes Japanese as "people with Tatooo" (男子無大小、皆黥面文身。 ). I believe they are Joumon 縄文人= ancestor of both Ainu and Ryukyuan. They are NOT ancestor of Japanese Yamato. Japanese Yamato is actually Korean and not indigenous to Japan。And Japanese hate people with tatoo even today. This hate toward Tahoo has been derived from long history of ethnic cleansing against Ainu and Ryukyuan. And sad thing about Okinawa is that it is not even a "reservation area" Ryukyuan are still facing "ethnic cleansing." Their culture is dying due to cultural assimilation. And Ryukyuan needs international help.

Some Okinawan who think they are Japanese that can be they are moved to Okinawa from Japan. And I feel sad for people feels like they are both Okinawan and Japanese, because that means the fascist system in Japan that erase the culturales and languages of other ethnic groups who live in Japanese colonies actually worked.

At least you brought it up with no manipulation thank you if you have the chance to track when it was changed or when it is changed on TH-cam when you can't find it in a search engine two big things stand out that need to be addressed maybe for a different video world war II proving the point that the Japanese think of the Okinawan says lesser it's the world's largest coral reef 🪸 if you really want to get into it get down to it what's the reason why America decided to drop the bomb because it's really a lot of caves don't go to the Disneyland version go on the other side of the mountain don't touch unexploded ordnance also you should just mention how they say their name is how the Japanese say their name is also when they protest the United States they're not doing it for the United States is attention they make a lot more money than anything else having our bases there. I miss it so much there's a term they're not Puerto Rico they're not stateless or country list it's the ryoko islands you never mentioned that and it's not Italy Sicily but if that's your reference then thanks for bringing itdo you know that Australian guy with a New Jersey accent explaining that there are no such thing as second cousins? They have a huge indoor mall now that I know nothing about they used to have outdoor malls which I think the closest thing you'd come to would be in Taiwan now. Also people have to get used to the coral thing because you can't have proper aqueducts I mean they actually do have aqueducts but they're right underground but they're open are so they have you ever actually been there what's it smell like homes it smells like the world's best bubble gum and you get used to the pee smell. It is culturally different because they're not Catholic but they believe they are the masters of all the land and fat and they have a zoo there and little kids spit on all the animals that says that but maybe they do that at others use I don't know I'm spoiled because we went from there to San Diego. And they had no love for me. If you're blonde hair there well at least as a kid jumping the fence so we can go buy a bubble gum and slap cards video games sections that aren't ever written down as you're not allowed to go there.

Oh yeah no I won't edit it I don't do that but I'm sorry it's long I will apologize which is weird because you're a dude I feel so mature and progressive. For real though there are sections of both places that the guy walks 3 ft in front of the woman do you know the poem 57 views of the mountain? Yeah if we go there again you can come along and do your thing. We might actually have a movie shoot therapy because karate kid 2 was the most I don't know have you ever seen somebody else says this is the story of this place and you're like that's not that place they just had to shoot in Hawaii it's not like Hawaii at all and don't let Taylor Swift go there it'd be like Elvis and what he did did to Hawaii. That's a good one look up the satellite pictures of why that Hawaiian town that no one ever thought would burn down did because all the water was diverted to somebody from Harvard that got expelled but they let him stay and then he had a rating system of women and it's like the number one money Maker today. Sublime riots in the streets of the North shore when I came out she was getting some Pampers

My husband and I went there several times in 95/96 while stationed at Kadena AFB. It was a fun to go there with friends as an adventure. We, also, encountered the homeless man living there. He chased a friend of ours' 12-year-old daughters out of his area of the main hotel. We were told that this person was the, now bankrupted, original owner. The whole place would have been amazing if it had been completed. You could see water slides built into the mountainside which led to pools surrounded by jungle. The zoo area was intact. The cottages had tatami mats, furniture, etc. still in place, abandoned on site. Crazy! The fixtures could have been sold, but supposedly, no one would purchase anything from there, because of the curse. The kitchen in the main hotel was incredible, all stainless steel and beautiful. When we climbed to the top of the tower where you could see both the Pacific and the East China seas, I found myself standing in the middle of a perfect pentagram (with runes I didn't understand) painted on the floor. THAT seriously creeped me out! We also went into the cave another commenter mentioned. We were told that WWII prisoners were kept there. It was really eerie, and interestingly, our camera would not take a photo when inside of, or pointed into, the cave. Turn the camera away, and it would work. Also had weird stuff happen, like car doors shutting by themselves, while on the property. Real fun was the night that a group of marines using night-vision goggles stalked us, making noises and moving things to scare us. Once we figured out what was going on, it was hilarious, but was sure scary while it was happening. The whole adventure was great fun, and I'm kind of sad that its gone now.

I have just been watching a series called Against The Odds and it showed the battle for Sugar Loaf Hill, I decided to look on TH-cam and see if anyone had explored it or excavated the tunnels. I know you can't halt progress but I was quite saddened by your video and a couple of others I have seen, It really is sad to see a site with so much historical importance built up to the extreme with little left. I am not American or Japanese but so many soldiers lost there life's on that hill it seems almost disrespectful to build so much on it, I think it would have been more respectful to maintain it open up the tunnels and display any artefacts found in a museum.

I should post some pictures. I have 100's of them. I got around all the tourist spots and places most people didn't know. I would run 8 miles a day in the afternoon. On the weekends I'd walk at least 25-30 miles or if on a bicycle usually over 100 miles and then ride a Harley at night on the weekends mainly. I also got a Suzuki Jimny 1300 4WD over there, which I still have. I drove that up on beaches and also up in the wildlife refuge area. Many, many places. I'm still a fitness demon at 69 years old now.

I used to run up there everyday from Camp Foster. Left 11:20 and got back 12:35 in the afternoon. I probably know that island better than many natives. Daily afternoon runs were 8 miles. Walks were at least 22 miles and up to 50 miles. Bicycle ride were always at least 75 miles and up to 150 miles. I was there 6 years and 5 months. I was in Camp Kinser, Camp Foster and Camp Hansen. And also lived in Kitanakagusuku.
