A simple breakdown on 7800X3D's melting
มุมมอง 573ปีที่แล้ว
I made the video to explain a little bit on how the cpu's are actually breaking, there is a great video from GN, but they didn't really explain much about the primary failure. Edit: Something i missed is that asus actually also put in a really high voltage through vcore, this is probably why the x3d cpu's are breaking directly. because the v-cache is a lot more sensitive to higher voltage.

Made the video after some research on pigtails. Even reputable psu manufacturers use them. The reason is, they still follow spec and work just fine. I would even say they are even more in spec than the 12vhpwr connector.

7 Ways to troubleshoot Plant3D Isometrics
Pigtails I did for years, but I switched to 2 separate cables now. 2 separate gives more stable fps, I noticed.
Please help sir...i have 2 gtx 980 My psu have 8+8 only 2 gpu want 8+8/8+8 Safe to use 8 pin to 16 pin cable
A it depends on the card and how much it draws B these cables killed my 1080 slowly C just don't use them stay safe they have a stigma for a reason they just are not as good as the single 8 pins a rating of power is not a hard confirmation of what they can handle the 16 pin is a testament to this since they literally melt if they are even slightly loose and they are rated for 600 watts on a 450 watt card.
Being running my OC's 1080ti with a pigtail cable for 7 years and the card can do over 310 watt under heavy load. Nothing wrong with it (PSU is a CM850V I thought), just bough a 4070 super to replace it on monday will run it the same way in the adapter. Good informative video btw :D
So I have a 3080 fe gpu with the 12, 6+2 connection can I just not use the +2 and just connect my gpu using 2 6 pin if that make sense ?.
No you can't due to why the 2 extra pins are there. They are 2 ground pins for added stability for the cable. Hence why it's an 8 pin connector.
@@echobanger I just did and have been using the new 6 pin cable with no issues.
Can I use a pigtail with awg 16 with it is supposed to handle even 400 watts, to power a rtx 4070 super? I have a cooler master 750 80 plus bronze modular semi fanless ver with ocp, ovp and opp certification and also should I use two of them? Bc I have 2 awg 16 pigtails
I have just melted the power connector using this pigtail. I use a 7900 XT with 4 monitor setup. The cable or the connectors was not able to handle the heat. I'll never use a pigtail again in a GPU scenario.
I did the same with a 7900xt. Reason behind it is some 7900xt including mine are rated for 380w the connectors can’t handle more than 150w each which means they might be ok under normal circumstances but if you’re using the gpu constantly at a higher power then they might melt just like mine and yours did
how can i see witch conector my powersuply has witout taking apart my all in on gamepc ?
6:10 i think Corsair identified an issue early out. They do not use the 12 connector on their PSUs. And how they designed this cable could have been what influenced the new 12v 2x6 connector.
I have a pigtail cpu connector is that safe to plug both into motherboard?
The real question is. Does it allow for the full 133% to be used wirh poerr instead of limiting it to 100% like it would without using the 3rd cable into the adapter. If you could let me know that woupd be awesome.
can i use a 6pin to 2x 8pin pigtail connector for a 4070 super that draws 220w ?
I been using then even on a 4070 ti super and would even trust it on a 4080 super. This is such bull the stuff going around all because of old issues where someone had a bad psu and then this rumor started.
I just finished 1 week adventure to make dual channel memory working with with asus z690 mainboard....... less pressure on cooler screws and adding washers under cpu holding mechanism helped. Junk i must say.
i have a MSI Radeon RX 5700 XT Gaming X Graphics Card '8GB GDDR6, 1980Hz and a 600w thermaltake psu that comes with 2(6+2)pin. is it okay to use the 2 pigtailed 8pins?
Yes, and it's the best, providing 300W of power to the GPU. But since it's an rx 5700xt, I think just one would be enough, depending on the model.
So I have a Triple fan Gigabyte RX 6700XT 12gb OC, a b450m ds3h with 16gb of RAM and Ryzen 5 5600. My PSU is Corsair CV650 Bronze+ 80 with a single pigtail PCIe. Should I get my PSU replaced or is it alright to use pigtails?
is it fine now ? ive got the 6750xt and ive undervolted my gpu because i could smell a hair dryer smell from my pc and now its gone now that ive undervolted it.
I had to use 3 of these for my 7900xtx. It seems to work fine but I'm not a big fan of having extra connectors sticking out around my CPU cooler
No, they really aren't. That's why all of the major GPU and motherboard manufacturers recommend not doing this.
can 6800xt run with one pigtail? coolermaster v850 gold
i wouldnt on pig tails with that card
Anyone use the pigtail with a 4070 super?
That's what I've been wanting to know lately. From what I've researched, the 4070 Super FE's total power draw is 220 watts maximum. So if I'm understanding correctly, then using 1 pcie daisy chained to gpu should be fine. Don't take my word for it though. Do some research and do what you are comfortable doing and or knows to work. It's also kinda weird nobody has put a video together showing exactly what kind of cable and how they are connecting gpu to psu regarding the 4070 super fe. Vury strange🤔
hi. I have problem with Intel i5-7600 which one of the edge is bent. Maybe because i screw the watercooling too tight. Any guide the best way to straighten it without breaking the board? its exactly only on the board side, not bending the IHS. i can't install dual channel RAM anymore, i assume because the bent part which makes the LGA pin can't contact with the CPU
Question: 7900 XTX. I've currently got it plugged up to 2 8 pin PSU spots and it's got 3 8 pin ports on the GPU. I'm using a pigtail to handle that. TDP is 375 watts, which is fine. However when I started overclocking it'll go above 400 watts. Typically I would have said in the past no - 150 watts per 8 pin + 75 watts from PCI-E so 375 is the top. However, it appears it'll be fine according to this video? I'll still be well within Molex spec I believe.
bro just get one more whole 8 pin cord by itself i wouldn’t risk it on a 7900 pigtailing is still scary for high end gpus
it’s most likely fine lol just scary
I’d recommend getting the 3rd cable I melted a cable and bricked the power supply by pigtailing a 7900xt so would definitely recommend to be safer than sorry. In saying that the cable lasted 6 months until it melted but don’t risk it
@@Dan-qw8di Yea I ended up going with dedicated across the board. I feel much better knowing that :)
@@ImaITman good to hear brother I’m lucky my card is covered by 2 year warranty which will cover the damages and I’ll be getting a upgrade to the sapphire 7900xtx for only 50 euro extra. If it wasn’t for the warranty I’d be stuck with a dead psu and a gpu with damaged pins that might be unstable
Can i try this with my 650 watt psu and rx 6900 xt ?
So, I have zotac rtx 3080 with 2×8 pin ports And my psu which is corsair 1000x 2021 have lots of pcie cables. I installed 1 cable with 2×8 pin. Should I be worried about that?
If you have the extra cables. Use them!
Should i use 3060ti rog strix with one dedicated cable that has 2*8pin connector? Or is it risky
Its not risky, its only 200w

I'm a gpu miner and I used these with 3070 ti cards pulling around 250-260w of power in total (around 230w through one cable and rest through riser) using one cable like this, I managed to melt the psu side ports of 2 power supplies one of which was asus rog strix top brand psu. so the cable might be fine but the connectors are dogshit and can't handle 230w of continuous power. after these burns I swapped to using 2 separate cables for one 3070ti not going above 150w per cable, and haven't had a problem in 3 years.
Hello friend. Do you have the link of the exact cable that is worked for you?. My card draws 250-300 watts and every cable I use ends up melting down.
@@chris-hg3iv solution is using more cables. Not putting more than 150w load per cable
Thought my new 7800xt was defective switched from singular pcie with pigtail to individual pcie (2x) and now everything is smooth lol
If I have a power supply with 12VHPWR port onboard, can I use this cable to connect my ASUS ROG Strix RTX3080 with 3 8-pin connectors on it instead of using 3 x 8-pin to 3 x 8-pin???
Can i use pigtail in RTX 3070 Vision?
Yee, use no problem. I have my rtx 3070 gaming oc connected this way from one year. Everything works fine in 100% load too.
I have just used pigtail on a rtx4070 super so i will let you know in a few days
@@Chris.B.20so how's the experience is it fine?
I'm going to build a new PC with Amd Ryzen 7 7700 (AM5), but I don't think that I need a contact frame. It looks solid. My former system was a Threadripper 1950X, which was cooled down by an Arctic Freezer eSports Duo air cooler. I'm going to buy the same cooler for my new build. Installing 2 Input and 3 Output fans... ✌️ By the way, great video!
It all matters if its muli railed or single railed. If its a single rail essentially the both of the tails are dc which means its split YES but its going into one current. Now if its multi railed you will have to be careful because it can overcharge one or the other tail and cause bsod/restarts and worst case scenario it can fry your pcie port directly on the pcie connectors and the pcie slot of the card. This when knowing and benchmarking your card to see if it spikes above 225W. Most psu's that are worth a damn are single railed anyways. Another reason to only go for certified gold only psu's, i.e quality psu's. Like EVGA, Corsair, Be quite, and seasonic.
Is it ok if I use two 6+2 pin pcie connectors for 3060
6+2 is an 8 pin connector when attached so it should be good.
Wow thanks a TON, when I first saw this type of thing on my PSU I was like "the fuck is that?" 😂
would it also make the card very hot on the back?
No, it won't but it can contribute to heat building up. Heat is generated at the weakest link, i.e. at the point where electrical resistance is the highest. This would be the connectors itself which are positioned at the side of the board. Whether this heat reaches the back of your board depends on the airflow in the case. The GPU chip and the MOSFETS generate much more heat than the connectors so the connectors don't play an important role in heat at the backside of the board. This video is all about preventing melting of the plastic isolation of the connectors and the wires close to the connector.
it stinks burnt too on the gpu?should i use it with the cables too?
the main 8 pins are fine its the extra pins.that melted 1 pin can i re use it as long as i dont plug in the melted extra 8 pins?
Please don't you have no idea how the circuit is making contact since it's melted. It could cause a short.
hy is this video now not working
or should i replace the cable? just the cable is melted
so its just a dodgy pin nothing else for a melted cable.cut out the pin and all is well
its ok use pigtail for 6700xt, im specs 5700x, mwe 650w v2, 32gb 3600mhz?

that should work, but keep the second connector unconnected.
So I just got an RX 6700 XT on Google it says the max watts can draw is 230w. Now I got a single pig tail style cable with 6+2 pins on both ends since the motherboard gives 75watts that means that the cable needs to give me 155w when the gpu is under full load. So my conclusion is that I'm safe to simply use that one pigtail cable c
So did it work
I have the same problem, I bought an rx 6700xt, my psu is a corsair cx 650w 80 bronze that only has a pcie cable with two 6+2 connectors, do I run the risk of burning one of the connectors due to overloading?
@matiasluna8235 well i did alot of research 7 months ago and apparently these cables can handle ALOT more than 150 its just a safety companies slap on their cables, ive been using what i described on the comment and under full load on forza horizon5 and it has been working fine. I hope this helped and i cannot wait for you to biy the gpu it is awesome
@whoknows7810 didnt realize you asked.. 5 months later yes it worked
@@adonixd7876 Thank you for answering and clearing up this doubt, I will surely buy it soon.
What Corsair doesn’t tell you is that a 1000 Watt will only provide 450 watts with this cable. A 1200 Watt power supply will provide 600 watts with this cable. We really should be using cables will all four sense wires for load balancing. When only 2 sense wires are present, load balancing is only done on the PSU side

Can i use pigtail on evga 1080 ti with 750w corsair psu bronze rated? Or will it have better performance with 2 separate 8 pin cable?
Não entendi direito, minha fonte xpg core reactor 650w com awg 16-18, afinal suporta ou não mais de 150w?
His psu has to be ATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 Compliant. Each 8 pin connector on a ATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 Compliant psu would supply 300w, so the corsair cable has two 8 pin connectors 300wx2=600w. The non ATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 Compliant psu each connector supplies 150w that's why the Nvidia cable has three connectors 150wx3=450 you should connect three separate cables from the psu side to the Nvidia cable. Unless your psu is ATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 Compliant then use the corsair cable.
All Corsair type-4 connectors are rated for 300w. Dual type 4 = 600w. That info is direct from corsair.
Hi. Where I can buy usb 3.0 front panel for this case?
So I was advised to buy asus tuf 7900xt oc gaming wwhich has 3 pcies lanes with a be quiet pure power 12m 850w. But is has only 2 12v rails with 2 pcie lanes pigtailed.
