So i'm borrowing this "not quite stock" 2015 Yamaha R1 for a few weeks, while i'm considering what to buy next. It's a great opportunity for me to try a real sport bike for a few weeks when the weather is less then favorable. So i get a great impression of how well a bike like this fits my riding in almost all situations. To sum it up: "I Love it, and i want one".

I've used up a set of "Metzeler's Sportec M9RR" (8000 km front and 7000 km rear), and have now used up a "Bridgestone Battlax S22" front tire (4300 km) and spent over well over 2000 km on a Bridgestone Battlax S22 rear. Thank you for this video. I just bought an FZ09 and I was freaking out about having to drive that thing home because this is my first bike and it seems way too strong for me.
It is powerful. But remember, it's Only as powerful as you make it. I was freaking out about getting my first big bike (a 600cc race bike) thinking it would kill me. But, even after several 1000cc hypersport bikes, nakeds and touring bikes, I've never ridden a bike that is uncontrollable. The key is to have a good hand-brain coordination. And B-mode helps to practice that if you're new to big motorcycles, or if you're a returning rider after a long break. Believe in yourself, and take it easy. It's a lot more fun to slowly get better, then to suddenly stop. I recommend trying some slow maneuver and technical skills practice. It will make you more competent in 2 months of riding than most people are in a lifetime of riding. I practice MotoJitsu. But there are a lot of good alternatives. Ride safe, and don't rush😊

It's a great bike. One of my favorite bikes i've owned (and i've owned quite a lot over the years). It's like a sport bike, but at a lower price and with some tourer advantages (like a center stand and wider seat)

A great all rounder...Is the sport version with touring add ons like one piece seat, centre stand etc..just doing some bits and pieces to it like quadlock mount and NOCO cable plug to battery for maintainer / charging ..but it's in great condition and looks mint! Years Tax , MOT and insurance and ready to rock. Of course it has coincided with biblical level deluge in UK atm lol...but will get out on it ASAP!
What do you run tire pressure at
Always at what the manual recommends. Usually it's 2'5bar front, 2.9bar rear (36psi front, 42psi rear). But on my Triumph Street Triple RS 765, it's 2.35bar/34psi for the front. Unless you're riding on track and/or you Really know what you're doing, that's the Only pressures to run.
I currently have a MT-09 with S23 tires and the way you describe the S22 feels very similar to my expirience with S23. At the edge of the tire it feels like I'm suddenly just loosing support I could not believe that there is about 2cm unused area on the edge, I really don't like that feeling. After 4k km my rear tire started to get a flat spot in the middle, I'm at 5,5k km now and I feel like getting that rear tire to 6k will be impossible, I will probably get a set of M9RR for the next season.
@kurc24k76 Interesting. I haven't tried the S23. I've used the Diablo Rosso 3, Diablo Rosso IV, and now Diablo Supercorsa SP V3. Honestly, I'm probably going back to M9RR again when it's time for a tire change. DR3 and DR4 were good tires, and DS SP V3 are amazing. But they're not as good as the M9RR, in my opinion.

I have an 2001 ZX12R A2 with 4800 miles.. totally original (but I have fitted a full Ti Akrapovic exhaust…sounds sooo good! 😁) The oem exhaust is safely stored away. I don’t use it so much as I want to keep the miles fairly low.. plus, I have 6 other 90s sport bikes to use 😎🤙🏽

Sorry for the late reply. Yes, like claragonzalezdiaz1967 said. M9RR are my favorite sport tire for actual use. If you're going to go full throttle to the very limit, the Diablo Rosso IV Corsa would be the best, Diablo Rosso IV would be my second choice. But if you only ride hard AF some times, and regular rides most of the time, with even some rainy day rides. The M9RR's are unbeatable in the sport category imo. Not Once have I gotten an M9RR out of shape. I've scraped pegs in almost freezing temperatures and they never even hinted at breaking traction. I've lost the Rosso IV a handfull of times, but never crashed. So far... Rain or shine. I trust Metzeler M9RR with my life. No other sport tire gets that vote of confidence.

I've heard a lot of people do that to improve handling. In my opinion, it doesn't improve it, it changes it. Some like it, some don't.

Please help! M9 RR or DUNLOP QUALIFIER CORE? Motorbike suzuki GSR 600...
I have no experience with the Dunlop Qualifier Core unfortunately, so i can't say if they are better, equal or worse. From pictures, i can tell the Dunlops have a sharper profile. More agile and will probably tip in quicker and easier. But for road use, the less sharp profile of the Metzelers are going to grip better for general road use. Mind, this is all based on pictures. Not real experience with the Dunlops.
if the front of the thread is rounded and the back sharp, the rebound is too fast....and opposite is slow rebound
Yes, that is true. But the 2019 MT-09 doesn't have rebound or compression adjustments. It has Preload for the rear. That's it.

It's called "following the speed limits". I'm guessing you don't have a licence, or you'd know about that already.

Well, this might come as a shock for you. But some of us don't break the law. And Definitely don't break the law and post it on TH-cam. Being smart, is what that's called. Highly recommended.
Perelli own Metzler bought them some years ago the reason is Perelli concentrate on track tires and Metzler concentrate on Road Racing tyres .The M7 RR was introduced around 2013 the M9 was in 2019 Metzler are the official tyre for the IOM TT which is what the M7 and M9 derive from the Metzler Racetec RR which come in 3 compunds K1 K2 K3 3 being the longer wearing. In my opininion any tyre that is made to work on the Isle of man TT race is good enough for me. when the stockers race they have to use Road tyres so these are a proven tyre with race pedigree and the most important bit is that the TT race course is all public Roads at altitude the mountain road and these roads are wet cold rough bumpy greasy depending where you are on the track and thats what we all ride on in real life. Yeah, there is no sport/hypersport tire i trust more then the M9RR, and i have several friends that i have "converted" over to being M9RR fans. The M9RR was the only tire that allowed my 2008 ZX10R to Full throttle to redline in 2nd gear in the pouring rain during the Autumn season without it losing traction on the rear wheel. The level of street grip is just another level. All this while still being just as fast as any other sporty tire out there.

@MasterAaron Yes. I have ridden the Road 6. Spectacular tires. Sticks well at all temperatures (within reason) and handles better in water than anything else on the market (not counting wet racing tires). If you like riding hard in the twisties and only do some freeways now and then, I'd say their probably a fantastic tire. But a sports tire will last shorter, so for commuting, I'd stick with the Road 6. 85% of us can't get that tire to its limits anyway. If you are one of us 15% who can. M9RR will be a lot better for a nice day on in the twisties. You really just have to be honest with yourself. Are you at a point where you may Need a sportyer tire? Or do you just want a cooler tire? That said, I 100% recommend people try new tires on their bikes. You'll feel like you've got a new bike and need to familiarize yourself with it all over again. It opens doors to experiences and an understanding of what kind of variables you prefer in a tire.
@@bikesonroads Thanks for the reply and sorry for the delay. I think it's going to be a case where I will get a second bike for only twisties and still the M9RR on that. I'm in the UK and use my bike for commuting, involving about 30 miles of motorway a day, and for fun. The road 6s are beautiful in the rain. It almost feels like cheating. I really want to try the M9RR in the cold 2c or below etc. And definitely I'm one of the 85%, pretty high lean, but I've been too scared to hit the grip limit on road, like hard acceleration and braking at different lean angles.
@@MasterAaron I would not recommend M9RR for sub 7 degrees celsius. The rubber will be hard and the grip low. I've ridden a season start and a season end with M9RR's, and at those times of the year, the sporty focus of the tire becomes a problem. M9RR isn't the fastest tire to warm up, and at colder temperatures, they simply don't heat up enough. At those temperatures all sport tyres struggle, really. And there can often be damp roads at temperatures like that.
Just bought a 100% same cbr600f 2006 with 10.000 kilometer, i got 26 years old, and since i was child this cbr600/f/rr was my dream (black and red colour), but now im 26 and i can accept grey and black color, it's a fantastic motorcycle, i hope i will keep it for the entire life.
I to this day regret selling mine. It was a perfect bike for what i would have used it for. I now ride a BMW 2015 S1000R, and of course it's a better bike with cruise control an everything, but also a lot more expensive and more power then i realistically can use. bike for buck, the CBR600F is just a better deal. That's even true when i go on track. We don't have huge tracks here in Norway, so top speed isn't the most important stat. A 600cc sport bike is the perfect track bike. And the CBR600F is a comfortable place to sitt both on the way to and from the track and for the track day itself. Enjoy it. It's a fantastic bike.
M9RR is single compound. It is a silica tire.

This makes me wonder if the tire has had an upgrade from single compound to dual compound? Good if this is the case. Silica already lifted the bar and if there is further improvement to the wear it can only be good unless this makes the grip bad on high powered bikes or makes the bike unstable. Any thoughts if there has been a change?
@@paulboyce8537 I haven't heard of any updates. I worked at a motorcycle dealer where (amongst other things) i was the tire expert there. For years I talked to the top guys at Metzeler every now and then for orders, updates and new products (until i got long covid and now can barely breath). They never mentioned anything about it, although i never asked specifically. It could very well be that there are different versions for different countries. Maybe they only make the dual compound for northern countries. Hard to say. I'll try to get the info on that from them next time i speak with them. I don't work there anymore (or anywhere) so i don't know when that'll be, but I'll update you on this comment thread.

M7RR o M9RR?
M7RR if you're mostly going on relaxed rides and commuting. They are usualy about 25% cheaper then the M9RR and do a good enough job, even for some spirited rides and fun track days (I've used M7RR on track personally, and they do very well on wet and dry tracks). The M9RR is what i would choose for hard riding, track days and joyrides with minimum commuting and freeway rides. They do those things with ease, but the cost makes it pointless to pay 25% more then for the M7RR if you're not going to use the litte extra performance. The M7RR's are more then enough for 90% of all riders. But if you really want that extra performance, i have yet to find a better sport road tire. I'm using the Pirelli Diablo Rosso 4 on my S1000R right now, and i had the Rosso 3 on it before that. Next tire i'd buy right now is either M9RR for fun times, or alternatively the Michelin Road 6 if i want a "usable for anything" kind of tire, for road trips and fun rides throughout 2024. The Road 6 Can do track days, but they are a little behind the sport tires. Hope this helps🙂
The M9RR is the direct replacement to the (older) M7RR. Metzler claims a 10% improvement in grip over the M7RR. So either will be a good choice depending on price and availability (and what type of riding you will be doing).
You might want to avoid probably 3rd 4th 5th and 6th gear below 100km per hour😂

I have used M7RR and S22 on a 2018 Z1000SX. The former has a fatter feeling, with slightly more compliance and plenty of hard braking grip, but they made steering slower and heavier. The S22 have much sportier handling. I find them better at entering turns and holding a line through corners. The front S22 does wear more quickly, however. The rear tire wears less quickly.
Yes. I always recommend M7RR for people who wants a cheap sporty tire that can go fast in bad conditions (within reason). M9RR is a bit more "good conditions" focused, but still my favorite sport tire. I now ride a S1000R with Pirelli Diablo Rosso 4 on it. The tires are So fast, but overkill for me. I prefer the M9RR's exactly due to the flatter profile.
I literally just found out about this bike. 220 HP stock. Unbelievable that's more than a hybusa. Don't know why this bike isn't reviewed by more riders.

I never had an issue on my MT-09. Possibly due to how the bike handles or some other factor. However on my new CBR650R, they were Dangerously terrible. I tok the bike on track and it was slipping a lot. Then it started to rain, and i was Barely able to corner, break or accelerate at all, which made me the slowest on track. The D214's are Completely useless. Came back to the same track 3 weeks later with the Metzeler M7RR tires on and it was raining again. This time i was the fastest on the track. There is Such a big difference between a good and a bad tire.
I think the rear has 3 compounds, soft, medium and hard. The front only has 2 soft and medium for better grip on straight line breaking. Which fits with you saying the ABS coming in less. Also probably the reason the front wears faster than the rear.

I’m running OEM S22’s on my Yamaha MT-09 SP (189kg wet) and I weigh 85kg without gear. Currently at 7100km and getting near the wear pattern, will have to replace the tires at 8000km. Supposedly the OEM tire is 1 compound and softer in the middle, the retail S22 is supposed to get almost double the mileage I was told, since it is a 3 compound tire with a harder center section. Are you sure you were not using OEM grade S22’s? I’m considering the M9rr too, but I live in Trondheim where the weather can be quite cold and lots of rain, so I want a tire that heats up fast and dies well in the rain. Yes, it's real S22's from Bridgestone. But you have to take into consideration that the Z1000SX is 230+ kg, front heavy and i ride pretty hard (no track rides). The wear pattern showed that the center line is fine for probably 7-8K, but the sides were melted away before i reached 3500km.

I agree completely about your criticisms of the T-Plane crank - just can't see the point. The older, now discontinued Tiger 1050 had that generation's speed triple engine (albeit slightly down-tuned) and that would have been the perfect option for the current GT/Road model. I'm also considering the z1000sx for exactly the same reasons...

That is fast. All the regular Z1000's I've seen on YT with basically the same 1043cc four aren't any faster and these guys at magazines do it for a living.
Left hand wear is normal because you use the clutch alot and also right hand dosent rub against the grip as much as left. The throttle spins with the right hand while the glove rubs the grip on the left.
Ya that’s right and they still lasted 2 years! That’s pretty good for 100 dollar gloves that’s basically there lower tier glove.. the more you spend the better glove you get from Dainese. Motorcycle gear is pricey…

I don't know the prize in other countries, but i payed the equivalent of 100 US dollars for mine from the official dealer here. So not very cheap.
S22 front wears out at 7000 kilometer. Problem with sport tyre is they will struggle with fully load 1000sx 2up. It will behave squirmy. Angel gt 2 is made for much heavier touring bikes,still sporty tyre for street. Swap to 55 profile and 1000sx will turn in faster and feel much more agile
I never rode 2up on my bikes. Never had more then 3-4 kg (6-8 lbs) with me. I'm 70kg (155lbs) + gear. Didn't have this problem with the Metzeler M9RR. Only the S22. Same issue came up on my ZX10R. Ether i'm breaking to much/to hard, or the tire isn't designed for a 200kg bike with 80kg of rider on it. In general, the Bridgestone rubber compound seams too soft. Witch is great if that's what the customer wants, and if the rider isn't someone who rides hard. But my experience on multiple bikes, 3 bikes to be exact, is that S22's are never able to get much more then 5000 km at best.

I been riding stock s22 on same model. 6500km , 3.8 mm rear, 2.5-2.8 front. Good tires but front is way to soft. 190/50 is to slow turning 1000sx needs 55 profile when riding in the alps. I still think Angel gt2 is a better street tyre. Metzler Z8 is also top on my list. If you never ride track s22 is mediocre. Was riding in +45 celcius during summer and it was hard like a touring tyre. Metzler's are so supple and Pirelli is super sporty. I never been happy on bridgestones. I owned 2 honda, 3 Kawasaki, 2 Suzukis. 1 triumph. And maybe close to 20 pair of tyres.
Have had Z8 and Angel GT2 on my 2018 Z1000SX and loved both. Wondering which one to go for next. Maybe Michelin Pilot Road?
My MT09 engine light was on a couple ride after i wash the bike. And somwhow the battery voltage drop to around 12volt and engine wouldn't start up. I have to use a portable jumpstarter to jump start the bike and it run fine now. But i not sure why the engine light is still on.
Didn't you get it checked? Could be something that needs attention.
the check light went off after a couple long ride. I'm quite sure it was the low battery voltage causing all that.
These came on my 22 cbr 650r and I swapped them out for michelin road 6 tires after 1k miles. Horrible tire all around and i had 0 confidence in them on dry pavement.
I never had an issue on my MT-09. Possibly due to how the bike handles or some other factor. However on my new CBR650R, they were Dangerously terrible. I tok the bike on track and it was slipping a lot. Then it started to rain, and i was Barely able to corner, break or accelerate at all, which made me the slowest on track. The D214's are Completely useless. Came back to the same track 3 weeks later with the Metzeler M7RR tires on and it was raining again. This time i was the fastest on the track. There is Such a big difference between a good and a bad tire.

Kawasaki have the weight balance so the pressure on the tires are equal and that's why they handle way better in the rain then a Harley , Harleys do not handle very well in the rain and fish tell easy and that's been my experence

i like A mode standard its for nothing B its for rain or you dont want so mutch power in the first ...
I always only used Standard mode. Never found a use for "A" mode

Jo. Jeg kjører mye. Men med lite tid og ødelagt filme utstyr har det blitt vanskelig å få filmet. Gjorde ett hederlig forsøk men fikk ikke lyd. Da ble jeg oppgitt og tok en pause. Så solgte jeg ZX10r'n og kjøpte meg CBR650R. Har lenge tenkt på å lage videoer med den, men har ikke tid eller video utstyr lenger. Tenker jeg skal få laget noen mobil kamera videoer snart. Skal prøve å få ordnet utstyr også, men det er ikke topp 10 prioritet akkurat nå.
