Hey Jackson-cs! Sorry to hear about your troubles and I know it's really annoying. I am hoping BMD will come up with a solution in their next update to eliminate some of this headache. Hopefully before the next update, we can figure out a solution for you to... First I have a couple of questions so we can try to narrow it down... The footage you are using, is it H.264? H.265? MKV? MP4? Shot from a Camera? Shot from a phone? Are you using the Studio version of DaVinci or are you using the free version? Are you editing from an external SSD? And what kind of computer? Windows? Mac?

I totally understand! Thats why in this I wanted to start a a realistic starting point for a content creator of what the good configuration and cost would be. Everyone is promoting the base machines, but they really are not enough for content creators.

I can totally understand! When I purchased my M2 Max, I had to consider if I wanted the M3 Max from the MacBook Pro or if I wanted the M2 Max Mac Studio. For me, the Mac Studio was so much cheaper and I was not in need of portability. So I went with the M2 Max and then later upgraded my 2017 MacBook Pro to an M3 Pro. I think there is a lot more risk involved with the MacBook Pro and the high cost of the Max chip, so its better for me to stick with the Mac Studio in the home studio

@ I don’t really want or need a laptop. But Apple skipped the M3 Studio completely and we have only a vague timeline when the M4 Studios will actually ship. I have to assume the holdup with the Studio models is the Ultra chip since the Max is already up and running. But then, they probably wanted to save the top end chips for the laptops, which are clearly more expensive (and profitable) than the desktops.

@@KeithWallsVocals-od5ry I totally understand! They do not want the Mac Studio to compete with the MacBook Pro, which is why they have not launched it yet. I know it may seem vague, but I believe we will see them by April or May if they do not surprise us just before Christmas. The M3 was skipped from the Mac Studio for specific reasons regarding the type of chip, As they went down to 3 nanometers, there were 2 types of 3 nanometer chips. The M3 was put on the first one which is more expensive and faulty, meaning that apple would have to create more binned chips and it would be at a higher cost. The had the exclusive on those chips, so no other company could use them. All of the M3 computers will be the only computers on that die. So the M4 is on a newer and better die which is cheaper and has less issues during manufacturing. They also updated the fuse on the max chip, which means the layout for the Ultra chip will be different as well. So the ultra chip will be even more powerful than what many anticipate. If you can wait, you will get an amazing computer... If you lease the Mac Studio with the M4 ultra, you will have the most insane option... Just something to think about.

An almost maxed out M2 Max Studio is $4200. The M4 Max MBP I’ve been contemplating is $6200. Big difference!

@@KeithWallsVocals-od5ry That is huge! May I ask why you want to max it out? Personally, I am running an M2 Max with 64 GB ram and 1tb SSD. I currently am using an external SSD for editing with, however will be building a server soon. Adding extra storage on the inside is quite expensive and is not really necessary... When it comes to editing, I am editing with DaVinci resolve and I do quite a bit of motion graphics and other high GPU intensive thins with it. I really do not have much of an issue. I can run DaVinci Resolve and Photoshop at the same time and still have enough ram. So if you are going up above that, you must have a really tough workflow. If you are goin that high, why not go for an Ultra, but with a little less interior storage and then maybe set up a NAS or something for cheaper and larger storage?

Radeon 7900XTX Ryzen9 5950X MB Gigabyte B550 GamingX Corsair Vengeance 64GB 3400 clocked DDR4 1 TB SSD Boot Drive is where the software is installed as well as the videos I have been trying to edit. I haven't moved any of my videos from anywhere. I am using OBS to record. Video Encoder is AMD H.264 Video Format is .mkv They are saving to my C:/Users/Me/Videos folder. Please and thank you for any help you are able to give. I have also already tried doing a fresh install of Davinci 19.

That is a ver good question! The iMac is a wonderful machine and has an amazing screen to it. If you are upgrading from a 2015 model, it's going to be a huge upgrade. When it comes to the photo editing, if you are using a lot of denies, exporting a lot and if doing a lot of work within something like Adobe Camera Raw, than it will be pushing the chip hard. You have to keep in mind the iMac is quite thin and the base model only has 1 small fan. The upgraded has 2 small fans, but even then, the cooling system is really not that much. You will be putting the computer through a lot of thermal cycling which will slow the computer down quite a bit on heavy loads. So with that being said, if you are upgrading from 2015 intel base Mac, you may even want to consider an M1, M2, M3 Pro or Max chip if it happens to be affordable. They are all really amazing when it comes to photography. I am a photographer too and I moved up to the M2 Max(Mac Studio) M3 Pro(MacBook Pro) from a 2017. I have no issues with the photography anymore. Everything operates very fast and smooth. So if you are doing a lot of photos, the iMac might not be what you expect. The bench marks we keep hearing about a really exciting, however the 10 core CPU is not going to really give you enough power for very heavy needs. If you are not doing too many photos at a time and are focused heavily on the quality of a few photos, than it might be a good machine. I would suggest you do a little more research into professional photographers who have been trying to use the M4 iMac to see.

Sorry to hear the issues... There are many reasons why it could be offline. I made a newer video to help with some of the other issues. This video you watched here was the most common, however other issues are becoming more common in DaVinci Resolve 19. My upper monitor is a 27". The one on the bottom is a 40" ultra wide. I use the dual screen setup in DaVinci and put the full screen timeline on the 40". I then screen share to my MacBook Pro and run that as a "video clean feed". That allows me to make the edits with the full screen timeline and opens a ton of space up for the other stuff and be able to see how it would look on the laptop. I have links in the description that goes to these monitors. They have a nice blackfriday deal going on too.

The studio is an amazing machine! I bought mine a year ago and it has been nothing short of amazing! Feel free to reach out with any questions for any of the stuff if you need. It can be a bit confusing at first when switching over to MacOS, but once you use it for a couple of weeks, you will never want to go back to windows haha...

Sorry to hear your difficulties, Sebastian! This is a common issue with the updates BMD is doing to keep up with the new hardware released from apple and other computers. They are trying to optimize things to cache faster and many things, so we are currently experience bugs and things. At this moment, things are more sensitive than in the past. So there could be issues with codec things which suddenly have issues within the middle of the clip. If you are using a MKV file, you should convert it to MP4 and then bring it into DaVinci Resolve. I personally have had issues with that myself. Be sure you clear out your render cache. Make sure your computer is up to date and all things are up to date for your drivers. beyond that, I would like to know what type of files are you using? What computer specs do you have? What resolution are you editing in? And are you using the studio version or free version?

@@chadmullins7553 I am currently using the free version, mainly editing MP4 files. I have several M2 SSDs, a Ryzen 3600 and an Nvidia 3060ti. Wherever the file is, the problems are the same. Out of curiosity, I rendered such a file and interestingly, the clean file without processing had no errors, and on the one that I only processed through DaVinci, as in the preview, "media offline" kept popping up

@@chadmullins7553 I use the free version of the program, mainly works with mp4 files. The clean file can be viewed normally, without any errors, but if I just render it through davinci on the rotation every now and then "media offline" appears

@@chadmullins7553 Not only that, I wanted to try on nvidia drivers for creators at this point half of the materials that were broken started working. But there was a problem with rendering because the video does not want to render. I changed back to game ready drivers, the video files still work and the rendering problem remained.

@@chadmullins7553 I've been battling this da vinci for two weeks now, I've had no problems before.

Really sorry to hear you are having an issue here... Just want to be clear... You are able to edit, then when you try to export, the clips are going offline? If this is the case, than should make some verifications on some of the export and timeline settings. Did you edit with proxies? In the export settings, have you done and custom export? Making any changes there?

@@chadmullins7553 Hi bro. Yes I just edit normally then in the export some clips go like that. Any way I moved everything to another disk and could fix. But sometimes still having the issue. Could be the cable, or ports idk.. Thanks for your time

Hey! I am really sorry to hear you are having issues. If I happen to come across the information that might be helpful to you, I will let you know! I do not have the newest GoPro, so I do not know what is going on with the media... However, you can check metadata from it. If you don't know how, just right click it on your computer and check the info from there. If you could share with me what that info is, maybe I can see what the issue might be.

Yes, that's a great idea. Instead of only mentioning the codec, I should have actually shown how to do this during the video.

Sorry to hear you are having an issue. And I do not quite understand your question. Could you add a little context to it? Are you asking if your files are in a folder? Or are you suggesting you can not find the file they were moved to?

In some situations, yes it did. Really need to do some more difficult tests to really see how well it can do though.

Yes, DRC is typically an issue. It may or may not cause problems. What that stands for is Dynamic Range Compression. That means TH-cam has compressed your audio in some way for some reason. Typically it means something must have gone over the limit. If you lower your audio a little through the limiter, it should be able to help it. You want to have it from -14.2 to 14.5 if possible.

@@chadmullins7553 I think it was something in my laptop, I don't get it with my TV for instance. Have you seen that? Ohh, laptop has "the estabilize volume check box marked", tv doesn't

@@chadmullins7553 seems to be it. The box to make volume stable across TH-cam. I get the DRC tag in every vídeo if I check this box in the settings wheel in the right hand corner of the video, just above the resolution configs. Applies for the laptop and TV.

That is a great question! You do not have to normalize during the export. However, what I do on the normalization during the export is not so much a normalization, but rather an optimization. You can skip the step if you want, however I always use the optimization. That adds one more step of optimization if necessary. I have had perfect audio exports each time when doing it, so I chose to include it in the video.

@chadmullins7553 ohh, really appreciate it!! And I was coming from CapCut, and having done only 10 videos or so, I had just a pretty basic idea on how to edit. Now DaVinci, man, this is another level, haha, but it's extraordinary, and I'm loving it.

Glad it helped! Yes, an hour long video is a lot for having to play through and adjust over and over... Bouncing will save you a ton of time. This was my original video for this, however there have been some updates since then. So I have released a video which will cover more things if needed. 19.1 keeps freezing while rendering. No pop up messages. I deleted 19.1, and reinstalled 19.03. Now no problems at all. People are posting the same issue on the Blackmagic site.

@@MultiCax I see... sorry to hear that. Seems like a bug and hopefully they can fix it soon.

That would definitely make the tests more difficult. For this video, I only wanted to stick very specific to real world examples when it came to myself. If there is a lot of interest for this video, than I will make more to challenge the two of them to see how well they can do with more difficult things.

Thanks for that... I only tried the fusion mask a couple times because I always had better results from the color page... If needing to zoom I guess I will work with that instead though.

@@SleevelessMTG haha I see... Well, the mask seems to work better for me in the color page. For whatever reason, there are less issues with it losing parts of the subject. However, I will start focusing more with them in Fusion so I can figure out how to get the mask to work better. Most people who learn about the mask learn from the color page anyway, so I had been sticking to there. Probably should not have limited myself though.

@@chadmullins7553 Fusion takes place before any color correction/grading which is why it may perform worse. If you're shooting your video in a flat LOG profile, you need to create a compound clip after applying your color correction. That way fusion can work with the right colors and detect edges much better.

@@Battlevader Totally understand that, however the footage I have tested was already color corrected. I had assumed that previously and made sure to use footage that was not log or anything like that. The fusion page does not seem to do as well as the color page. I am not the only one that has had the same results either.

@@阿公-x2j Both masks are quite similar, however the FCP seems much easier to work with. By just clicking points, it is definitely easier than dragging the line around. Although it's basically the same, it is more attractive. The flashy things can be easy to get excited about, however the overall editor is the thing you really should focus on. I rarely use the mask, so it's not something I would be quick to jump from one editor to the other over.

Hey! Thanks for the question and updating with the info. As I have studio version, I do not have the issues with it, so I am glad you were able to update showing the limitation of that. I will have to ask a few others to get the full range of what is going on with it. So you are saying you have access to the things you had already downloaded with reactor, you just do not have access to anything new?

@@chadmullins7553 Hi Chad thanks for the reply. Yes spot on. I use kartavr for my 360 videos and it was only a few days a go that I updated karmavr in reactor as the 360 editor has beed updated from ultra 360 to viewer vr, you can now move the image about in the viewer window and not having to mess about with the sliders. So yes I can still use the plugins that I had already installed but now it wont allow me to see the reactor plugin interface to allow me to install other plugs or update the ones I have . I get the you have reached the limitations with the free version, so pleased I updated the 60 viewer a few days ago thanks again

@@chadmullins7553 Spot on. Yes the plug ins that I have installed from reactor I can still use in my projects. I use kartavr for my 360 clips and it was only a few days ago I updated kartavr to a newer version that allows reframing in the viewer window instead of using the sliders. Now if I go to the reactor plugin I get that limitations screen so can't install anything else now from reactor. To be honest I think its a shame and Blackmagic are trying to get people to buy the full version, I myself think it could backfire and people will move away from davinci.

Sorry to hear you are having an issue. There are quite. few people who are having issues. May I ask what hardware you have? Just want to eliminate some the possibilities so we can narrow down what the problem might be.

Hey! Thanks for subscribing and watching! Really appreciate it and appreciate you asking questions even more. The answer to normalizing at the end it yes, but you should optimize. I had recently made an updated version for the audio, which I will link at the end of this comment which gives a more thorough audio workflow for TH-cam. However, with DaVinci resolve 19.1 I might have to update that again too haha... As for 5.1 I am not sure how that would work for TH-cam.
