    Hi Barry! I was huge into AA in the 90s, and really admired your playing. The main riff of this tune was one of my favorite guitar moments off the album. It just felt good to hear it. Hoping all is well with you.

    Besides drop D, is your guitar tuned a half step down?

      Hi @nitochi3. No, it is standard pitch except for the drop D.

      @BarryBlairGuitarist thank you for replying. I'm close to figure it out, I mean, there's some kind of playing technique you use to get the exact sound you make on the main riff. I got all the chords and everything, I just need to make it sound identical. Seems easy, but it's not. Thanks for sharing. It'd be cool if you also showed how to play "walk on water," "good people," and "man of God".

    Nice guitar work! That E7 chord is from 'Cupid's Dead' from 3 Sides to every story album. There was a ton of great guitar playing and parts on that Bloom album. I learned a lot of them back in the 90's.

      We recorded a demo of the song for our first record in 1991. I don't think those demos still exist, but if they do, the record label would have them.

    I am so in love with this version. The lyrics are even more impressive with this rock version. Can you tell me how many guitars are played and what effects you use?

    • @BarryBlairGuitarist
      @BarryBlairGuitarist ปีที่แล้ว

      Intro - Rhythm is doubled, and there is a melody guitar VS 1 - Clean Rhythm and melody Chorus - Main Rhythm is doubled, and there is a higher part, and a lower octave part. Bridge - clean guitar, main rhythm is doubled, and a lead guitar Chorus out - same as chorus 1 and 2, but the lead guitar from the bridge stays in. So, I think the chorus out has 5 guitars going on at once, and that’s the most at any time. All guitars are recorded straight through the amp with no pedals. Distortion is from the amp. All reverbs and delays are added with plugins. Amp: Egnater Rebel 20. Cab: Mesa 2x12 with Celestion Vintage 30s Mics: SM57 and Sennheiser MD421 Guitars: Gibson Nighthawk, Reverend Double Agent I think the reverb on the clean verse part is the Eventide Black Hole plugin.

    Thanks. I thought it was a regular A chord; one finger covering the second fret on the D and G. Then the hammer on on the third and fourth fret of the A string. I'm going to save this and play along some time.

    Learning the double stops on this song unlocked a TON of other riffs for me. Hendrix, SRV, Pearl Jam, etc. A lot of my progress as a musician goes back to this album, and this song in particular. Thanks for posting these videos. Soundtrack of my youth.

      @B3ARCAT, it is a 1993 Nighthawk Standard. I got it new in Jan 1994 and used it on tour with dcTalk and on the Bloom album.

    Barry at the time could you ever have imagined that your guitar playing would influence an entire generation of young men and guitar players? It's difficult to express just how important this album is to me. I was about 14 or so when I got it. I really appreciate you making these videos. BTW, i had no idea the guitar was panned the way you described. Ive always noticed there was something wide about that guitar in that song and I have to say it was a great call. Not sure it wouldve been as great in mono. Well done on that album mate.

    As a very young man(13) Scum Sweetheart was definitely edgy to me and that's one of the reasons I loved it. Actually i loved the guitar parts first and when I heard the lyrics im not sure anything couldve put me off lol. I remember rewinding that tape over and over and over learning those jazzy chords and I remember after I learned it I was so proud. I actually figured it out note for note, even those chords. Thanks much Barry.

    I love the whole Bloom album. It came out at a time when I started getting into 70's classic rock, and this album (and, although stylistically different, Imagine This's "Love") fit the bill. It immediately became a favorite album of mine and an album that I still check out occasionally. It's a timeless album in my opinion. This is the song that initially got me into the album, and quite possibly my favorite on the album, although there are a ton of great tracks on it.

    Hi Barry! I just discovered your TH-cam channel after binging on 90s AudioA with the family on a road trip today and I came home wanting to learn these killer songs. So many tunes packed with awesome riffs! You’ve made me really miss my old Peavey Classic 50. I would love to hear all about what you did on Reckless Love. The guitar tones on that song are incredible, what is going on to achieve that clarity and tone? But what I really, really, want to know is what are the backup vocals saying/singing in “Some Kind of Zombie” during the intro and again opposite to the “Stand up straight, Look through the haze…” parts? Honestly that song deserves an entire video, it is so well produced.

    • @BarryBlairGuitarist
      @BarryBlairGuitarist 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      On Reckless Love, everything is the Gibson Nighthawk, except the double-track of the main rhythm, which is my Reverend Double Agent. I think I mostly used an Egnater Rebel 20 for everything. No pedals. I can't remember those lyrics on SKOZ, haha, but I may do a video on the guitar parts some day.
